Marci actually got 36% of the vote the last time she challenged Harman — I think that may have been in 2004. Scared Harman into totally changing her voting record. I don’t know what I’ll do now. Marci is a typical progressive. Is that good or bad these days? Do they know how to compromise? I don’t know, but I’ve been to her home, heard her platform. I really like her. But I also feel that it’s wrong to reward Harman for actually changing her ways and responding to her constituents by voting her out. I heard a discussion about this earlier today. Personally, I’m not sure why the filibuster rule was ever instituted. The Senate is already undemocratically constituted, and this just puts the country at the mercy of the minority. I mean, it’s one thing to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority — it’s another thing to let 41 people block legislation that is needed and wanted by 80 percent of the country. Otherwise we don’t have any foundation on which to build the reforms we really need. The left has spent too much time on “kill the bill” and the public option and generally having a poor understanding of the provisions in the House and the Senate. And so here’s where we are. I think a big mistake was made in August when the Senate Finance Committee was clearly stalling. That was the time to regroup and come up with a strategy. Four months were wasted and we lost a senate seat. So now — here we are. The House needs to sign onto the Senate bill. That gives us the best start. And I’m convinced Sam Seder played a big part in Ned Lamont’s winning the CT primary — for all the good it did. And Randi got a national syndication out of it.
