People never got banned (I think that’s a weird thing the site does – just delete the comment if it’s offensive), and you didn’t see a lot of nonsense posted. The first change came when they changed the format of the threads. There used to be a much freer layout, and threads would get very long, with sometimes as many as 20 sub-layers to one comment. That was a couple of years ago. Then they changed the format to allow only 3 layers — that was when a series of changes started. (That change is gone now, although only three layers show without clicking to drop down the other layers.) It made conversations a lot more difficult. And that’s also when people started complaining about the hamfisted management of the site. The stories didn’t start to change until the primaries between Obama and Clinton. At least that’s when I noticed a change in tone. You have to wonder if all the fighting between camps made the site a lot of money — and the only way they can keep up that kind of traffic is to encourage more fighting. » Posted By nellie On November 27, 2009 @ 9:07 pm I’ve started to do this with McClatchy and CSM as well. From a family point of view, it’s all peace an love. I have a fabulous extended family. And our holidays spent together are like big parties, with everyone laughing and joking and telling stories. So my childhood memories of Thanksgiving are about good smells and people cooking and laughing all day, eating too much, talking about how delicious everything is, telling people they’re the best cooks in the world, and remembering all the good stories. Now, I’ve grown up into something of an iconoclast. So things are a little different. Family still spends a lot time together, but often as not, I will sidestep the holidays. Just to give my world view some respect from time to time. I joked with a friend after 911 that we should build a town square at the border with Pakistan where people could gather, market, live, feel safe. And then build another on the border with Turkmenistan, or any bordering country that would let us build a temporary base just inside the border. And keep building these areas until the entire border was enclosed, and then slowly work our way into the interior. Of course, it was just a pipe dream, but foreign aid is the approach I thought we should have taken. We spent a lot of money and lives just to let Osama Bin Laden escape at Tora Bora. I hear a lot of speculation from progressives about the Trans Afghanistan Pipeline for natural gas being the real reason we are staying in the area. I can only hope this is not true.
