Of course I refrained from telling them the possible reasons and the possible reasons are Bush one and two and Rick Perry. Because I’m not sure that those assholes are the reason. No offense to anyone from Maine, but Maine was very unwelcoming to us when we visited and we were the “outsiders”. And don’t get me started on Montreal, even though that’s the faux French in Canada. The friendliest places we’ve ever visited were Boston and New Hampshire. The funny thing about our latest encounter with Texans was when my husband and me met them on a dirt road, as we were walking. A group of horses from a nearby ranch escaped, and those ranchers were trying to round them all up and that was something. The dust was flying, and my husband and I are actually used to dirt flying, but that doesn’t mean that we like it. We ran up hills and covered our mouths with tissues, and once the dust settled we started walking again and we ran into the Texans. The Texans asked us about the inconsiderate kicking up of dust and dirt, because really, it wasn’t necessary, and then my husband took on a southern accent whereby he said that ‘them city folk are just not used to ranchers and a little dust ain’t goin’ to hurt no one’. I was shaking my head at my husband, trying to warn him that his accent was the accent of the Texans we were talking to, and Colorado people do not talk Texan. The Texans got my warning and high-fived my husband for mimicking their accent, and even told him that he “did good, bro!” This is the United States of America. It just saddens me to hear from Texans that they do not feel welcome in Colorado. I can’t explain it, but we are all Americans and this is our country, no matter where you’re from or your accent. We’ve traveled the continental US, and been to 45 states, and besides Maine, we’ve never encountered Americans not feeling welcome in other states. Former President Clinton said something that we’ve never thought about, and believe me, my husband and I discuss politics way too much and think about it way too much. Bill Clinton said that Republicans ran on attacks and fighting at NOT working together or compromise and they were elected to do just that, and so they are doing just that. Pretty much he said that we’re going to have to be hurt a lot more before WE THE PEOPLE change things in Washington DC. Goodness, but it was so good to hear former president Clinton. And I’ll never forgive Clinton for NAFTA. My mother used to always say that “they’re all crooks”, and my mother was so right. My father was a very dominating man, and he came over illegally from Quebec, and served during WWII and even received a purple heart and silver star, yet he never became a legal citizen and every single time that we went over into Canada, he had a very hard time coming back. As kids, we were stopped for hours on the Ambassador Bridge on the way back from Canada and into Detroit. My mother’s family came over from Austria, and my mother was born here, and she remembered her parents studying for tests to become American citizens. My mother never wanted to vote and I remember my father coming home from work and asking her if she was ready to vote and an argument would erupt, with much yelling by my father, and my mother always said to him – “what’s the use because they’re all crooks” – and my father made my mother vote and that turned me off voting for a long time. Don’t get me wrong, because I loved my parents, but my father was so domineering, and I had 2 brothers out of 3 that were gay, and one of those brothers, he tried to beat the gay right out of him. I used to hide under the bed and I cannot tell you how much that affected me. Not to mention how it screwed up my brother that was beaten with wooden boards and my mother used to ask my dad afterward if there were nails in the board. I still cry to this day remembering it all. My father did teach me a lot of things and my father loved me, as the only girl and the youngest in my family. Even though my father treated my mother as less than him, he pounded into to my head to never let a man rule me and do that to me. And my brothers hate me for that. They hated that my father talked to me and told me that men are not better than women – so imagine my life growing up and witnessing different. I witnessed my father yelling and browbeating my mother to vote, and witnessing my dad beating the hell out of one gay brother, and witnessing my older brother who hates us all. LMAO Families are very complicated things. We’re not at home in Arizona and in the 108 to 111 degree heat, and it took a bit of work for us to remain on vacation in Colorado for another month, but we did it, because my husband has much patience when it comes to getting our prescriptions transferred from our HMO, and obviously, he has much patience from just living with me. We’re in cattle country, and in the real boonies, whereas horses and dogs are not pets, but working animals. These people here, are real cowboys. The people next to us on one side are people who work for Paul Mitchell – the hair guy – and yes, Paul Mitchell is dead, but the people they know and work for, are the people who bought the rights to his name. Those people pay the people next to us to take their horses on vacation – can you imagine? Well, those people love to party, and they are older than me, and younger than my husband, but whoa, do those people love to party, and we’ve been fortunate that they’ve asked us to party with them a few times. We’re talking campfire dinners and good wine, and the most excellent tobacco – or herb for medicinal purposes – but in a campground atmosphere. Now, we didn’t exactly not believe them, until last night, when they brought over photo albums pertaining to their life, and to show us how very proud they are of their home outside of Houston. My God. The people, you’d never guess that they’re wealthy, and well, it just leads me to believe that wealthy folks stick together.
