Here’s some choice words from Olbermann and Howard Fineman about the Repug’s playing of the fear card: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#34716884 » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 11:05 pm “Populist Republican” is an Oxymoron Hey, I wasn’t excusing anything! “Uncle Tom” which I feel is more applicable to Steele than the other suggestion I offered, is definitely not an excuse! But I assume you were being sarcastic in your comment, no? » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 4:43 pm Yeah, I loved what goldynchyl had to say, and I’m so glad I copied the comment before it vanished into the ether. I haven’t found goldyn again, but when I do I will definitely offer the invite – I’ve been posting invites to here whenever I get a chance, and staying off HP threads where I know for sure I’ll get scrubulated! » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 4:38 pm javez, I’ve heard the term “Stockhom syndrome” applied in such cases. also, back in my radical days of the late 60s, the phrase Uncle Tom would have been used. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 4:34 pm What you said, javaz! This seems a like a good place to post this little gem that I saved from HP before it got scrubbed – It’s my comment supported by another poster there named goldynchyl. Pay particular attention to goldynchyl’s conclusion: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ posted 1/3/10 & scrubbed apparently ~ WASHINGTON » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 11:25 am UncleB, I’d like to point out this conclusion from the Tom Tomorrow link you gave: » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 6:09 pm Being born to stinkin’ rich fambly sure helps! » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 5:12 pm S’okay, Tiger, I got yer drift. I do like me some Kristofferson, but now I have to go do some actual work on the Interwebs, so I’ll catch ya later. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 9:35 am from Janis Joplin, “freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FMhnl0__Vo I don’t know how this fits, but it’s the first thing that came to mind. I also see many layers of meaning here – for example, it’s when you have nothing to lose that you’re most truly free! » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 9:13 am Very good points, AdLib. As I mentioned above (I’m not sure where my replies are going until I post them), this sounds like a good topic for another discussion thread. I’m not sure how to set that up, so I’ll just throw out the suggestion. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 11:17 am sorry, abby, I think it is a right-wing meme. And I got from your post that you were at least in agreement with another poster who said he should not have a prayer rug. I’d very much like to hear more of your thoughts on this, as well as from others here. It sounds like a topic for a new discussion thread. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 11:15 am I take issue with this, please see my reply which posted just above. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 10:54 am abby and Emerald, I can’t let this go – I must take issue here. Decent treatment of prisoners, even convicted terrorists, does not bother me at all. I’m far more concerned about keeping these individuals locked away from society (thereby insuring our safety) than about exacting revenge. I get really upset at phrases like “coddling” prisoners. That’s another right-wing meme, imo, and it just us leads down into thuggery – as well as serving as another recruiting point for Al Quada. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 10:39 am No probs, Emerald – I think I was about the last one up on this site way late last night. We all have concerns about Cheney, and I’m furious at the msm for giving him such a platform for spreading his aid & comfort to the enemy. As far as your speculations go, again, many of us share them. Rachel M even went so far as to elicit a statement to that effect from Wolffe last night, but he wouldn’t come out and say it. I not betting on those speculations being publicly validated, but, given the nature of Cheney’s reprehensible track record (we do know that he was coordinating a covert hit squad from the VP’s office during his term!), that’s not going to quell the speculations. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 9:33 am Before I turn in, here’s another interesting take on the man we love to hate (Cheney) from the site we love to hate (HP) which, every little once in a while, actually runs some good info ~ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amb-marc-ginsberg/dick-cheneys-role-in-al-q_b_410614.html Nite, all π » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 12:33 am I just finished watching Richard Wolffe & others (but not AH; I couldn’t bear her) on both Countdown and Rachel M Show ~ they’re all leaning away from the deliberate-withholding-for-political-reasons theory and leaning toward it’s-a-turf-war. But really, doesn’t it come down to the same thing? Wolffe also reports that the President is STEAMING over this – so yes, K7, that meeting tomorrow is going to be veerrryyyy interesting. Finally, KO made a Brief Comment on Cheney that really told the ol’ Dark Lord what all want to tell him ~ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#34694994 Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy » Posted By jan4insight On January 4, 2010 @ 11:12 pm Good point! I’ve had many a discussion with people who say they’re “above” politics, and I remind them that politics is nothing than how we make decisions as a society. » Posted By jan4insight On January 5, 2010 @ 12:34 am Olbermann made a comment directed to Cheney tonight; worth watching: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#34694994 Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy » Posted By jan4insight On January 4, 2010 @ 11:15 pm Just saw that Wolffe was also a guest with Rachel M tonight – and she has another segment on the intelligence failure thing. I’ll be watching after I have my late supper – should be interesting. » Posted By jan4insight On January 4, 2010 @ 9:44 pm WOW! » Posted By jan4insight On January 4, 2010 @ 9:09 pm Quite frankly, I would not put it past them (Cheney et al.). But then I still think that 9/11 was, at least partially, an inside job. » Posted By jan4insight On January 4, 2010 @ 8:42 pm Thanks for posting this, Emerald ~ You’re right; if this really turns out to a deliberate, political move – prepare for the chit to hit the fan. And while we must be careful about speculation, it wouldn’t be a surprise to any of us, knowing that Cheney’s moles are still there in many layers of the current admin. That said, I also give high marks to Richard Wolffe on his reporting and acumen. Did he state this on tonight’s Countdown? I see from their website that he’s a guest tonight. I’m for sure going to watch it, after I get my lazy arse off the couch & fix some me some supper ~ » Posted By jan4insight On January 4, 2010 @ 8:35 pm Anyone who wants an insight into how the Mormons act today (and has a strong stomach) I recommend Jon Krakauer’s book, Under the Banner of Heaven. The thing they have about “blood atonement” is, well … words just fail me π » Posted By jan4insight On January 13, 2010 @ 6:56 pm He said the same thing about Katrina. Oh, and I believe he added feminists to the 9/11 mix π » Posted By jan4insight On January 13, 2010 @ 6:52 pm Welcome to the club, whisperingn woods π We’ve all had our comments scrubbed on HP more than a few hundred or so times. I’ve come to the conclusion that HP mod’s fallback system for deciding whether not to scrub a post is to toss a coin! » Posted By jan4insight On January 12, 2010 @ 7:19 pm Here’s last night’s Rachel M segment on the teabagger infighting ~ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#34815564 She was on a roll last night, so the whole show is worth watching if you haven’t seen it! » Posted By jan4insight On January 12, 2010 @ 9:05 am Wow, this must be really breaking news – but I was just over at HP and they haven’t made it their main (yet) and added 6 or 12 spin-off articles on every page that’s remotely related (yet). » Posted By jan4insight On January 11, 2010 @ 10:45 am javaz, I hadn’t seen that story until now. What gall on the part of those fundie cretins! I loved the comments on the raw site, though, about how if the xtians are so upset about changing the body the “creator” gave one, then why are they okay with Carrie Prejean’s boob job! » Posted By jan4insight On January 8, 2010 @ 6:17 pm And the weird thing is, every so often Steele says something that actually makes sense! Until, of course, Rushbot or Beckazoid start blubbering about it and he has to mind his manners & take it back! » Posted By jan4insight On January 8, 2010 @ 6:14 pmComments Posted By jan4insight
