Weekend Music Thread – Back In The Saddle

Adonai, I like it. For some reason it reminds me of the old Cars hit, “Who’s going to drive you home”. Here’s one I really like.

Guano Apes – You Can’t Stop Me.

You have a period in between the “u” and the “b”. I don’t think that will work Sue.

KT, these guys knew how to do it. The presentation, the beat, the show. Great stuff.

Foxy Shazam – Unstoppable

I can’t explain it. But I really like it.

The Daily Planet

The original bill was designed to enact mandatory layoffs of 700 teachers, and effectively rendering some school districts over 50% on-line only.

There was such an outcry over that that the Senate proposed a new bill authorizing “technology upgrades” paid for with money allotted for teachers.

It’s simply part of the coordinated attack on the unions. Wisconsin eliminates collective bargaining, Idaho forces “improved technology” to be purchased using money set aside for teacher salaries. A very sneaky way to accomplish layoffs since the local districs are forced to figure out how to pay for the new mandatory laptops.

Idaho School Bill passes

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2011/apr/02/idaho-school-bill-passes/

Rep. Brian Cronin, D-Boise, said, “This plan … does replace teachers with technology. No amount of rhetorical tap-dancing can change that.”

Rep. Reed DeMordaunt, R-Eagle, countered, “Did the microwave replace the cook in the kitchen? It did not, in the same way that technology is not going to replace the teacher in the classroom.” He said technology allows education to transform from “the sage on the stage to a guide by the side.”

(sigh, this guy is the rep from my home-town)

Idaho lawmakers unveiled the new version of school reform legislation Friday, and it’s a lot like the old version that stalled in the state Senate – it calls for phasing in new laptop computers for every Idaho high school student, diverting school district funds to online course providers, and shifting funding from teachers to technology.”

The Senate passed this bill in addition to another bill eliminating tenure for new teachers, and establishing merit pay for all existing teachers. The new technology will be paid from a pool of funds that teacher salaries are drawn from, effectively resulting in lay-offs though not explicitly calling for them.

The New Torture Debate is Another Logical Fallacy

Ah so here is how things are going to be spun:

“… Interrogators would never have asked about the names of couriers during waterboarding. As I explain in my book, “Courting Disaster,” enhanced techniques were not used to gain intelligence; they were used to elicit cooperation. According to former CIA director Mike Hayden, as enhanced techniques were applied, CIA interrogators would ask detainees questions to which the interrogators already know the answers — allowing them to judge whether the detainees had reached a level of compliance. “They are designed to create a state of cooperation, not to get specific truthful answers to a specific question,” Hayden said.”

Victory brings parades, sweet satisfaction, a spike in the birth rate, school closures, and reflection.

This is something else.

It isn’t bad, its just something else.

I heard he was killed because Obama was jealous that he was taller.

Its ironic that bin Laden’s love of the SNL “Landshark” skit would ultimately prove his undoing.

Abby, two great pieces of good news today. May I ask what you might be considering running for?

Ecat, not all….

Guess President Bush was right all along. Makes you think that perhaps “nukular” is how it will be pronounced in another 100 years….

Ad, you are a starry-eyed optimist. 🙂

How ironic that today is 8th anniversary of “Mission Accomplished”.

Chase, this is one of three people that I feel celebration is justified.

The other two know who they are….

My wife’s cousin is a drone pilot in Afghanistan and a daily poster on his Facebook page. My wife had not seen anything from him for 3-4 days. Interesting.

Another Post About Discussing Religion

I am an atheist. Not by design or by default, but that’s just how it ended up. Religion is quite possibly the most fascinating and complex human invention there will ever be.

To think that the trillion-year dance of dust, gases, energy, gravity and luck that created and nurtured life would “evolve” us into beings capable of creating such a interesting way of explaining the unexplainable is truly amazing.

Atheism

I liked your post Caru.

Myth 2 is especially Myth-y as I am an atheist and have not eaten my children, become a serial killer, torn a tag off a mattress… Yet.

I suppose that my amorality may rise up and compell me to perform a barbaric act of evil someday. But until then I shall live a quiet life and and laugh as the world trundles by.

Is Donald Trump a Stalking Horse?

Dear Mr. Trump:

Its me again, your biggest fan, I was at your recent press conference in New York, front row! I was the one in the “Celebrity Apprentices Do It Better” shirt. I waved, but you must not have noticed me. I tried to get your autograph at the rally in Boca Raton last week, but you must have been in a hurry.

Anyway, I’ve been following you around in my brother’s van ever since I saw you at the Marriot Shoals in 2005. We were having a fund-raiser to build our local library, and thanks to the $5000 per plate ticket, we got almost 12% of the funds we needed.

I was captivated by your dazzling smile and even more dazzling brain, and ever since I’ve made it my mission to follow you like an acolyte, learning the Trump way. It’s been difficult without a job to make ends meet but thanks to my disability check and unemployment I’ve been okay.

Things haven’t been easy for you either, declaring bankruptcy four times and seeing your hotels and casinos close must have been difficult. Obviously you need to hire some better employees!

I am very anxious to finally have someone like you teach our country some fiscal discipline. Entitlements are going to be the ruin of our nation. The Trump way of innovation, imagination and guts is what will pull our nation through.

Thank you for exposing the President for the imposter he is. Without your tireless sluething, who knows if we ever would have forced the CIA to forge that birth certificate.

Anyway, time to move the van before I get a ticket. Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,

The Lowest Common Denominator

Weekend Music Thread – The Poetry of Music

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles
And never frowns
Soon I will be president…

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

[Chorus:]
California Uber Alles
California Uber Alles
Uber Alles California
Uber Alles California

Zen fascists will control you
100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can’t happen here
Big Bro’ on white horse is near
The hippies won’t come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

[Chorus]

Now it is 1984
Knock-knock at your front door
It’s the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

Come quietly to the camp
You’d look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don’t you worry, it’s only a shower
For your clothes here’s a pretty flower.

DIE on organic poison gas
Serpent’s egg’s already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown

This song captures the gang I grew up with perfectly.

GOP Economics – How to Become Taller by Digging Holes

jkk – Agreed. Do you think this derives from what “many” (sorry) say is an extremely small, insular decision-making group around the President?
