Great choice!
I’m enjoying what people are posting to it.
For me it’s already turning out to be a very interesting weekend.
If there’s any truth at all to the supposition that we create the world without through our thoughts within, you have to maintain the belief that the more humane of your captors will win out and make this world a better place…eventually.
Without that… the view gets pretty damned bleak.
“Do you think these tracks in the dust will last?”
I think I may have just drove past you! 😮 🙂
One of the best pieces of modern poetry out there.
Capturing moments of life in a jar
Playing with children, acting as stars
Guiding your visions to heaven and heaven is in your mind
The apple you’re eating is simple and real
Water the flowers that grow at your heel
Guiding your visions to heaven and heaven is in your mind
And fine, fine poetry it turns out to be!
Thanks! A great entry! (No. Two great entries!)
Was that the Battle Field Band, by any chance?
So rest your head and dream a treasured dream
I care for no one else but you. I tear my soul to cease the pain
I think maybe you feel the same
What can we do?
I’m not quite sure what we’re supposed to do
So I’ve been writing just for you
They say you sparkle like a different girl
But something tells me that you hide
When all the world is warm and tired
You cry a little in the dark
Well so do I
I’m not quite sure what you’re supposed to say
But I can see it’s not okay
He treats you well and makes you up real fine.
And when he’s strong, he’s strong for you.
And when you kiss it’s something new
But did you ever call my name just by mistake?
I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to do.
So I’ll just write some love to you

Surveys the prairie of your room
The mobile spins to its collision
Clara puts her head between her paws
They’ve opened shops down West side
Will all the cacti find a home
But the key to the city
Is in the sun that pins the branches to the sky
I’d forgotten how much more this guy did beyond ruling the guitar of the day.
Hard to pull away from this, ain’t it?
Catch ya’round.
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant ~ Billy Joel
Perhaps a bottle of rose instead
We’ll get a table near the street
In our old familiar place
You and I-face to face
A bottle of red, a bottle of white
It all depends on your appetite
I’ll meet you any time you want
In our Italian Restaurant.
Things are okay with me these days
Got a good job, got a good office
Got a new wife, got a new life
And the family’s fine
We lost touch long ago
You lost weight I did not know
You could ever look so good after
So much time.
I remember those days hanging out
At the village green
Engineer boots, leather jackets
And tight blue jeans
Drop a dime in the box play the
Song about New Orleans
Cold beer, hot lights
My sweet romantic teenage nights
Brenda and Eddie were the
Popular steadies
And the king and the queen
Of the prom
Riding around with the car top
Down and the radio on
Nobody looked any finer
Or was more of a hit at the
Parkway Diner
We never knew we could want more
Than that out of life
Surely Brenda and Eddie would
Always know how to survive.
Brenda and Eddy were still going
Steady in the summer of ’75
when they decided the marriage would
Be at the end of July
Everyone said they were crazy
“Brenda you know you’re much too lazy
Eddie could never afford to live that
Kind of life.”
But there we were wavin’ Brenda and
Eddie goodbye.
They got an apartment with deep
Pile carpet
And a couple of paintings from Sears
A big waterbed that they bought
With the bread
They had saved for a couple
Of years
They started to fight when the
Money got tight
And they just didn’t count on
The tears.
They lived for a while in a
Very nice style
But it’s always the same in the end
They got a divorce as a matter
Of course
And they parted the closest
Of friends
Then the king and the queen went
Back to the green
But you can never go back
There again.
Brenda and Eddie had had it
Already by the summer of ’75
From the high to the low to
The end of the show
For the rest of their lives
They couldn’t go back to
The greasers
The best they could do was
Pick up the pieces
We always knew they would both
Find a way to get by
That’s all I heard about
Brenda and Eddie
Can’t tell you more than I
Told you already
And here we are wavin’ Brenda
And Eddie goodbye.
A bottle of red, a bottle of white
Whatever kind of mood you’re in tonight
I’ll meet you anytime you want
In our Italian Restaurant.
Bless your children, give them names
Don’t trust men who walk with canes
Drink this and you’ll grow wings on your feet
Broadway Mary, Joan Fontaine
Advertiser on a downtown train
Christmas crier bustin’ cane
He’s in love again
To someday own the rodeo
Tainted women in VistaVision
Perform for out-of-state kids at the late show
Interstellar mongrel nymphs
Rex said that lady left him limp
Love’s like that (sure it is)
Queen of diamonds, ace of spades
Newly discovered lovers of the Everglades
They take out a full-page ad in the trades
To announce their arrival
And Mary Lou, she found out how to cope
She rides to heaven on a gyroscope
The Daily News asks her for the dope
She said, “Man, the dope’s that there’s still hope”
Wipes her eyes and blows her nose
Uptown in Harlem she throws a rose
To some lucky young matador
Still standing here together
One more storm to weather
We’ll get through it yet
So we’re gathered here
Holding on to each other
To let go of another one we won’t forget
To one of our own
We may be lonely
But we’re not alone
Though the leaves will fall
And the tears will flow
May it always comfort us to know
The family tree will always grow
Thicker than water, we are made of this
From the Earth we rise
To the Earth returning
We’ll keep a candle burning
For the ones we’ll miss
To one of our own
We may be lonely
But we’re not alone
Though the leaves will fall
And the tears will flow
May it always comfort us to know
The family tree will always grow
It’s stronger than the wind can blow
The family tree will always grow
Nice!
I can see my life before me.
Running rings around the way it used to be.
I have more than what I wanted.
But I wish that I had started long before I did
Time we have wasted on the way.
So much water moving underneath the bridge.
Let the water come and carry us away
did you question all the answers?
Did you envy all the dancers who had all the nerve?
You must go for what you wanted.
Look at all my friends who did and got what they deserved.
Time we have wasted on the way.
Let the water come and carry us away.
love we have wasted on the way.
Let the water come and carry us away.
working her puzzles he watches TV upstairs.
Shes got a secret she has never let out,
and she thinks he never knew about.
She hasn’t seen him for 30 years,
mention of his name doesn’t bring on tears,
if you ask her, Are there any regrets?
she’ll tell you no, but she never forgets.
Even though she found someone else to take his place, she never will escape the truth.
At times like this, when the moon is bright; when the air is foggy like it is tonight;
She thinks about what might have been, if she had just held on to him.
sailed the ocean, climbed the mountains of Nepal.
He lives high upon the avenue,
with a beautiful wife, loving children too.
But there’s a woman he still dreams about.
Certain things he’s learned to live without.
If you ask him, Are there any regrets?
he’ll tell you no, but he never forgets.
Even though he found someone else to take his place, he never will escape the truth.
At times like this, when the moon is bright; when the air is foggy like it is tonight;
He thinks about what might have been, if he had not let her slip away from him.
Such arrogant words always seem to be spoken by those who then die young.
Tell me what are we going to do?
Am I destined to be your regret?
Are you the one I’ll never forget?
Isn’t this too dear a price to pay, for the freedom of going separate ways?
Dont tell me Ill find someone else to take your place and try to face the truth.
Let me hold you close tonight the fog is lifting, and the moon is so bright.
Think how sweet life could be if you would stay with me, oh stay with me!
This is the kind of love you never recover from.
This is the kind of love you never recover from.
I think they’re happy about it too!
Them that can’t DO…surf!
I used to be quite critical, but now I find I’m cynical.
A lady with a starving baby
miles away from me.
No problems. They’re just life and death.
And what the hell is wrong with me…
and everybody else?
Just get receipts and write them off.
“Expenses”.
Taxes are a bitch these days.
Yet the lady and the baby starve while waiting for a contribution
in a UNICEF box…
in a drugstore…
in this ugly little town.
I used to be quite practical, but now I find I’m tactical.
I scrape and scheme and struggle hard to get myself ahead.
Have no concern for anyone but me.
The world is just a marble in the palm of my hand.
The palm of my hand…
The palm of my hand…
The Northern Pikes
Loved it!
They slither while they pass.
They slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting thorough my open mind
possessing and caressing me.
that call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box.
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.
exciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns,
it calls me on and on across the universe
Nothing’s gonna change my world
And my wife said, “Complaining doesn’t get it.
You got to do something or you can bet it will get worse.
And all that hippie hopefulness is just a crutch.
But if thinkin’ that way helps you to make it through the night
…then who am I to say what’s wrong and right?”
Did you think these tracks in the dust would last.
while the world goes to hell, which you know damn well
it’s going to do just down the line.
I mean some things seem to get better.
You know the hero still saves the damsel in distress,
the villain doesn’t get her.”
I mean they’re selling death in the streets for cheap.
And the lying politicians are rollingin the profits they reap.”
But I think it’s always been that way.”
And he smiled kind of patiently, and I knew he was going to say:
Did you think these tracks in the dust would last?
Did you think these tracks in the dust would last?

Do you wanna be a star?
Do you wanna play some magic on my guitar?
Do you wanna be a poet?
Do you wanna be my string?
You could be anything.
Do you wanna be the lover of another?
Undercover you could even be the man on the moon.
Do you wanna be the string?
Let me tell you something it just don’t mean a thing.
You see it really doesn’t matter when you’re buried in disguise
by the dark glass on your eyes though your flesh has crystallized.
Still…you turn me on.
Do you wanna be the feathers lying on my bed?
Do you wanna be the cover of a magazine?
Create a scene?
Every day a little sadder, a little madder.
Someone get me a ladder!
Do you wanna be the song?
Let me tell you something you just couldn’t be more wrong.
You see I really have to tell you that it all gets so intense.
From my experience, it just doesn’t seem to make sense.
Still…you turn me on.
