For one, what it is, is what it is. The deed is done regardless of the debate. Nothing anyone can say will change that, whether you and I or you and anyone else agree that it was acceptable or not to any possible degree involved.

I’m not sure, but somewhere in the last decade or more that we’ve spent in the Middle East, I came under the impression that this was considered a necessary and sacred act.
Of course, that would stand to reason. “I’m not smart but I can lift heavy things!”
At least that’s what I overheard someone call me…Well, I can’t be sure, really. I only heard the first two syllables actually. 😀
You gotta call em’ the way you see em’ and you manage to do so with the grace and aplomb forgotten by more than a few of us.

“Terrorist”? Yes. “Puppet”? Perhaps. “Mass murderer”? For all intent and purposes… You betcha!
And it hardly excuses him, (nor do I care to) but there’s a lot of this mass murder going on. Far, far too much of it to eliminate international insanity brought on by hysteria.
Mass murder is mass murder whether a person wears a turban representing their own vision of vengence or a uniform representing one nation or another, or a $2000, three piece suit surrounded by others who are profiting by representing one or many corporate interests.
The only difference I can fully accept between any of these entities in view of the end product seems to be, who is pointing the finger at any given time and exclaiming “j’accuse”!
In any case, it is a poor substitute for a genuine moral compass.

Let’s not now make Pakistan’s duplicity out to be a surprise. (As a matter of personal speculation on my part, our droning Pakistani civilians may have contributed to any recent deceptions.)
Duplicity is sadly the nature of modern government…ANY government.
The fact is, no matter what another country does to harm us is apparently deemed acceptable as long as they serve a greater US purpose.
“Frenimies” are (unfortunately) the way international politics is done.
Christ, before they were effectively silenced through being discredited and ignored through corporatism, Wiki made this crystal clear for everybody.
Of course at this exact emotional point in time, it may not be given the consideration it deserves…but still one has to speak their piece or lay prostrate to the voices of others.
Everybody goes to the temples of their own choosing and accepts the message(s) they choose to believe in.
As such, we gotta just go with whichever service that tells us what makes us feel best about ourselves, the world we live in and any given situation.
News has become as much a matter of faith as it once was a matter of fact, unfortunately.
So many conflicting stories each day on a wide variety of things, it has become a matter of what anyone wants to believe. Because readers and viewers of “news” are likely going to be the last people to genuinely “know” what’s actually going on.
Kill someone inland and bury them at sea?
Sounds more like an episode of Dexter or the Sopranos than it does a military operation.

American history is rife with battles that were unnecessarily waged, cruelties that were delivered and kept hidden and massacres that have taken place, all because in the short term, no one questioned them or felt they could be questioned exactly for the reasons you mention.
Granted, it’s a mighty fine line between questioning and not questioning…but it’s a line that should be recognized and respected rather than covered with a blanket of prohibiting it.

While all you say rings true within the sphere that you point out (and very well) my frustration with the situation is it’s duplicitous nature.
While there may be cause for celebration to some degree, for me it is negated by the knowledge that our country and policies still remain to be working at cross purposes to that which we are celebrating.
It is in this respect that I opined, little (if anything) has changed.
As stated below to Adlib, I’m not attempting to covert anyone or unnecessarily piss them off for the sake of argument because I want to be ornery or provocative.
Just using the boards to express myself.
Sometimes that may fly in the face of popular opinion.
I’m simply experiencing a disconnect with this one.
And it only makes it all the more elusive for me to associate or compare the announcement of a vaccine to the eradication OBL.
Polio is/was an act and creation of nature. OBL and all he represented (and still represents) was a creation and a continuation of a mindset of violence. Which was fed and nurtured by policy to the point of having that hate, (as hate will do) become the cancer walking as a man that OBL was.
That practice continues still assuring our repeating this scenario. (imo)
And I acknowledge and accept the commonly shared sentiments of the day of my countrymen and women.
At the risk of upsetting anyone I can’t compartmentalize the history involved over the last couple of decades to the point of removing their accumulative roles in cause and effect.
From my personal perspective…A led to B, which led to C and so on; leaving everything as connected as I see this situation and the world around me to be.
I just took the opportunity and the freedom provided me by PPOV to express myself about that.
Certainly no harm intended and no campaign on my part to arouse or convert anyone to my particular grasp of the situation. Or more precisely, my lack of understanding of it.
Nothing has changed here or in Iraq or in Afghanistan….or Harlem or LA or Detroit… Name your city, or hemisphere.
OBL was germinated by US “elite” covert operatives in the time of the Mujahideen and after hundreds of thousands of deaths, he was removed by yet another US “elite” covert operation for becoming the free radical outbreak for which he became to be known. There are more and more in the making, leaving the future and this world relatively unchanged between yesterday (or last week) and today.
The only difference now seems to be a growing righteous indignation fueling a pride driven justification to advance our encroachment and military strangle hold on yet more of the world we live on…for whatever reason.
The things we think are precious, I still fail to understand.
But what his role was and if anyone American was complicit, is all pretty much academic at this juncture.
I react the same way towards Bush and Cheney.
I dunno.
One thing’s fairly certain. We’ll never have the opportunity to hear certain particulars behind what transpired in 2001 and who might have actually been a part of it.
Because, “dead men tell no tales”.
For my money, this is one guy I would have wanted in a courtroom and his story on the record.
Worse, this would seem a much more hostile place than it already is.
And having the answer to the universal question would make being here a genuine hell built on redundancy, purposelessness and constant, mind boggling contradiction.
But since I don’t have the answer…I can’t really be sure. Can I!?
It’s just status and an extended family for members of the elite. (IMO)
From my vantage point, those who voluntarily came to these shores and made the most of their given situation, facing the discrimination that those of no better standing bestowed upon them (excluding this continent’s original population who attempted to defend themselves)…these are the “real Americans”.
Transplants and mongrels alike.
For the rest of us who are offspring, we are but (fortunate) accidents by birth
To some this can present itself as a blessing while to others, as a curse.
But as far as curses go, even those — in America, ain’t too shabby. And if it appears to be, America provides quite a few more options to change that (to at least some degree) than the vast majority of other counties presently populated.
Am I a “real American”? Are you? Are “they”?
You bet!
As things stand, America is stuck with us as much as we are stuck with America…and each other.
It’s nigh time we made the best of it together.
There are a multitude of far worse places to be stuck on this world.
In the end, we all share common ground.
So, why not?
Just try not to hurt anybody along the way.
