I just sent my puppy for an overnight with my daughter, my husband and son are camping on an island in the Apostle string in WI. I’m torn between writing in my journal, being here or enjoying my solitude. And here I am. I can’t say that I’ve had time to do anything but crest on the debt ceiling, the S&P downgrade, the stock market pendulum, the Super Congress, the WI recall (:-(, the riots in England, and, well, the whole damn world. So, now that I have a minute–not much to put this string of thoughts together, I think this: I’m tired of being whipped around by every piece of information in this political foothill of the coming war. I’m tired of groups thinking they can and should control things through money, anger or idealistic withdrawal. I’m tired of stupid being clever. I’m tired of oxymorons being normal, every day occurrences. I’m tired of being asked for money for people to volunteer time for candidates who spend less energy than their supporters. I’m still here for the long haul, but right now, I think the mirror of the news describes a fragmented, supercharged, isolated and connected, tragic kaleidescope, groups/pols/news media going oooh and ahhh to the construct that suits them. The riots, the Congress, the famine, the tribal wars, the African continent, the blood money. My eyes are tired. I don’t want to be worn out in skirmishes (I know, famine and riots are not skirmishes). I think tonight that what I want is a plan. I am not good, any longer, at shooting arrows here today and there tomorrow. I want a plan that doesn’t pit Hillary against anyone, that doesn’t pit health care against anything, that brings us together so we can WIN! Because, where I’m sitting tonight, we aren’t playing the cards we’ve been dealt. We have a good hand and we are playing like it’s bingo. After dinner, I’ll calm down and enjoy my time here, where it is the better side of normal. When you step into crazy, it’s really hard to find sanity. I know that sounds duh!, but this maelstrom (all things GOP) is very effective in message. I’m not so sure they will succeed in the long run. Right now I’m not so sure anything will if the media doesn’t do a better job educating the common man. There used to be a time when an unspoken agreement said you could not say economically or socially hateful things in public. There was a “shame” attached that kept haters quiet. The hate was driven underground. They now relish this as power, and, due to TV ratings battles, they are powerful. He’s so sweet. It’s like he’s six months old with an 8 week level of experience. Crate living in the country with no stimulation of any kind until we took him home. He’s coming along but is afraid of new people, new dogs, new situations. We’re providing new things every day much to his excitement. Almost all good. We wonder if a stable animal, older dog or (I love cats) a kitten or cat that takes his mind off new things or a fellow critter to “coach him” by not being afraid.
