(Sometimes I have to parse words for alternate meanings to make a paltry living. And I had to go the patio anyway to check my chicken.) If we didn’t know the etymology of “move on” as you accurately describe, “move on” could mean “move on this [action]” rather than “move on from this issue.” In other words, it could work.
