Displaying 15,181 To 15,210 Of 16,275 Comments Pepe, My understanding is that it does take 67 votes to change Senate rules. » Posted By bito On December 20, 2009 @ 10:24 am Senator Harkin had a good analogy: We are not building a mansion today, this is a starter home. It has a good foundation. » Posted By bito On December 19, 2009 @ 8:28 am J’avaz, Oh yes we can’t forget our progressive senators. π Over the years I have emaile and called their Tuscon offices on various topics. I have never gotten a reply from either one. π » Posted By bito On December 18, 2009 @ 12:06 pm I am not all that positive if it is just Joe, Ben and Blanche that are the problem. They are but three votes out of the 100. The major problem may be the polarization of the GOP with their “purity tests.” Using this threat the GOP has been able to fully abuse “Senate Rule 22”-the filibuster. Last session they set a record of using it close to 160 times. They are on pace to smash that record! “Rule 22” is undemocratic, yes. But in history is was used with some caution (excepting during civil rights.) It is should be used against blatant abuse on the minority by the majority- but right now it is used For the abuse against the majority. » Posted By bito On December 18, 2009 @ 11:30 am AdLib, Blance Lincoln and Ben Nelson are right up there with Joe. » Posted By bito On December 18, 2009 @ 10:52 am Democracy DOA, Killed by the Supreme Court nellie, don’t you question, in your mind, someone’s motives when they proclaim how humble and honest they may be when they have to declare it? I find this trait in Justice Scalia. » Posted By bito On December 18, 2009 @ 4:26 pm Nellie, In my small mind it really depends on Justice Scalia. Will he stick to his so oft belief in “what the founding fathers meant” or will he find something that granted “corporate personhood”? If he finds it in any of the writings he is a complete fraud and he jeopardizes his self professed pomp-ass scholarship. IMHO pomp-ass. » Posted By bito On December 18, 2009 @ 4:01 pm One day a few of us (nellie, Sue, BDM,? ) were wondering about all of the front groups and how many there may be out fighting for the corporate cause. We had made our own lists but it was a daunting task. The next morning, I was reminded of a site that I had not looked at for years: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Portal:Front_groups The number of front groups that go unseen and unheard of that represent corporate interests is simply amazing to me. This site is worth a save, IMHO. A valuable reference! » Posted By bito On December 18, 2009 @ 3:43 pm I first want to apologize to everyone here. This is something I don’t do. FUCK YOU Nelson! Didn’t fix anything. I am still pissed. The rethugs are going to filibuster the appointments to the conference, to slow the bill down some more. » Posted By bito On December 17, 2009 @ 2:45 pm Progressive Senators to Contact NOW Cher, good info. I am just saddened you did not list our “progressive” Senators in AZ. No longer are they allowed to cross the aisle without the fear of being targeted by the religious zealots and the RW money with their astroturf front groups.
A perfect example is the vote this morning at 1:00am for a cloture vote on the Defense bill for the wars started under their leadership! It was fine and dandy when Shrub was pres. to pass defense bills and they put them “off budget.”
FUCK YOU LIERbman!
FUCK YOU Rethugs!
FUCK YOU rule 22
Some how I don’t think they will all be as polite as yours. π
Good night all. π
