Is Obama “Doomed”? (Or What the Pundits Won’t Tell You.)

We shall see. There will be an election in Nov 2012.

I have not, for a long time, read very much that is logical and well reasoned from the commentariat. There are couple who are logical from each side; but, most do not make sense.

Perhaps, they figure that they do not need to make sense.

DOJ and Voter Suppression Activities

Good.

Registering to vote is not really all that difficult.
The RW is being stupid.

2012: The End of America As We Know It

That is a good explanation for what has gone on. Well put.

Real income stopped growing about 1968/1970. Europe and Japan had caught up.
The end of the Cold War was a revolution; it went round the world. It marked the final end to colonialism and forced China to join the world economic system. Eventually, we came to a global economy, and labor intensive industries went to those countries.

This is a ‘new normal’.

The idea that just about every system that we is based upon competition is apt. Co operation in the USA is difficult.

The Stock Market is not a safe place for ordinary people to put their money. I got out of the market about 10 years ago. The major players do manipulate the market over the short term : 24 to 72 hours. Longer than that, they are guessing. They may, on average, make good guesses. But, they are still guessing.
A couple of things to keep in mind: the market is based upon greed and fear; second, stock prices are too high.

Over the long term, the best investments are: US treasury bills; cash; land.

It is a tough situation; and, it has been buliding for many years. Real wages for the vast middle, has been flat/slowly falling since the era of LBJ/Nixon. Vietnam and Civil Rights were very problematic for the liberal coaltion; nad, that is part of the explanation. If matters do not turn around, the vast middle will see many years of stagnation.

OWS/ we are the 99% has the potential to be a real catalyst to slow this decline.

Very seldom has the top 1% of any society in any era had the wit and the wisdom to preserve themselves and their world as they knew it. At the end of the day, most elites ruined themselves and their world.

There are times when I have serious doubts about how inteligent politicans actually are.

Occupy Wack Street

These people running are some of the silliest characters that I have seen for a long time.

There is a lot of excellent material to read; very informative.

Getting It Wrong In Afghanistan: Victory and Loss in 2002 and Today

I think that sort of arrangement for Afghanistan is viable.

The Daily Planet, Vol. 155

The article on West and Smiley is good as well.
West cannot be a supporter of PBO. His world view prevents support of PBO on his part. West, by intent, is very ‘alternative’ and is very much into ‘speaking truth to power’.

If those six myths do not die, we face years of stagnation.

The article about the tea party and OWS is good.
There is a big difference between OWS/ 99% and the tea party. The tea party is a very old political faction; it goes back to the Know Nothings, the America first, the John Birch Society. It came up now because with the meltcown it became clear that their life has not worked out. They looked to their betters for guidance and elsewhere for villains. They cannot blame their betters, or be angry with their betters.

They are a ‘movement’; they are the RW of the GOP.

So far, I have not seen much serious coverage of either one. The so called ‘mainstream media’ is not going to do very much serious journalism. Journalism has never very much in depth reporting; it is almost at the vanishing point now.

The Daily Planet, Vol. 154

Cher, a most exellent selection of articles!

I do not quite understand what the RW is after with their public schools campaign. Perhaps they want to ‘deliberalize’ the curriculum; bring ‘God back into education’ and get ‘back to basics’. I assume that sort of thing is one of their goals.

As for job growth, we have been losing jobs in manufacturing ( outsourced) – which is where the high pay jobs were – for many years. Some years ago, there was a lot of rhetoric about becoming a ‘service economy’ with people being ‘retrained’ to do those jobs. That has not worked out well.
This results in flat or falling income and that fall/stagnation in income contributes to consumer debt.

A Radical Economic Solution – Stop Paying Banks For Credit Card Debt

It is a big reason, sad to say.

» Posted By agrippa On October 20, 2011 @ 1:59 pm

A substantial portion of this credit card debt cannot be repaid. It will have to be written off, one way or another.

I expect that Wall Street has a list of reasons why many there despise/dislike PBO. I would be surprised at a different reaction.

» Posted By agrippa On October 20, 2011 @ 1:58 pm

very thought provoking.

Much of this debt is uncollectable; and the bank will never see a certain percentage of this debt paid off. I do not know the percentage, but it must be fairly substantial. The banks were aware of that of that, just as they were aware that many of the mortgages could not be repaid. I think that the banks either went into a ‘We will think about that tomorrow’ mode; or, they expected a bailout.
To an extent, this walking away is being done now. Thus, much of the money is gone, the banks will never see it.

OWS, You May Be Being Had

It seems that the media wants drama. They think that this is a football game/soap opera.

» Posted By agrippa On October 24, 2011 @ 8:19 am

The media seems to want a clear and simple image for them to focus upon; mainly because the media does not like the uncertainty/murkiness of a ‘lack of leadership’. The media wants things to come down to sound bites and pictures. It makes easier for them.

Life is not that way.

» Posted By agrippa On October 24, 2011 @ 8:16 am

I have no interest in Huffington, as I consider that she does not make sense. I consider that, most of the time, she is illogical.

Occupy Los Angeles on The International Day of Action

OWS does not need a ‘specific focus’. The foci ( plural!) may emerge as events unfold.
The USA is large and diverse.

» Posted By agrippa On October 17, 2011 @ 9:12 am

The hyperventilating by Cantor and Romney shows their fear. If they were unconcerned they would have remained silent.

The photos and videos are excellent.

I do hope that ‘OWS/we are the 99%’ continues to grow into something. The USA is a very large and diverse place. It takes a lot of time and effort to get the country moving.

They need to start thinking about the 99%. To the 1%, the GOP is a useful idiot.

» Posted By agrippa On October 14, 2011 @ 2:12 pm

I am curious to see what this ‘super committee’ produces. I have a hunch that it will not be able to produce very much of anything. I think of it as an attempt a ‘workaround’ of Congress being unwilling to deal with finance.

This 47% pay no income tax on the part of the GOP is pure gallows humor. Owing to the state of the american electorate, millions will fall for the scam.

Herman Cain’s “999” Attacks the 99%

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godfather's_Pizza

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2011/jun/10/did-herman-cain-turn-around-godfathers-pizza/

Pizza is not on my list favorite food; it is ok.

What ‘turning around’ a medicre pizza company has to do with being president is a mystery to me. Apparetly though, not to him.

» Posted By agrippa On October 14, 2011 @ 2:09 pm

It is hard to take Cain seriously. Funksands, you may have given a good reason to take him seriously.

Occupy Wall Street Could Be a Seminal Moment … Or It Couldn’t

I liked the piece by Borosage; it made a lot of sense.

OWS is not neat and tidy; this is not a tightly controlled revolution like the one run by Lenin. It is more like the ‘Arab Spring’.
It has a lot of ptential to do ssome real good, if it builds to a critical mass ; I do not know if it has the momentum to do that.

I cannot tell from where I live, which is Texas. Texas is very comfortable and very passive; most people here will tolerate just about anything.

OWS has already do a fair amount of good.

The Occupy Wall Street Thread

There are excitable lefist bloggers who are propagating the unsubstantaited rumor that PBO was involved in evicting OWS people. No one has any evidence that story is true.
