Mr. President, You’re Fired!

Cute title, but too bad that a president cannot be fired. It’s also too bad that high school civics or American government classes went so bad for so many.

D-Day: My Dad and His LSM Bombarding Omaha Beach

My own father was a heavy machine gunner and was just 23 when he landed on Omaha Beach. He had already fought in North Africa and Sicily before he landed in France. I have a letter he wrote to his father just days later and he said, “you almost had one less son today”.

He fought his way all the way to Germany and in November he was wounded for the 2nd time and the war was over for him. Back then they didn’t know about PTSD, but who could be completely sane after years of heavy fighting? His wound sent him home from Germany and eventually he was 100% disabled, but it really took 25 years for it to kill him.

My mother left my father when I was 4 and never really talked of him. I saw him once more when I was 10 and he died when I was 18, just starting college, so I never got to talk with him about much of anything, especially his wartime experiences. His service and because I was the dependent of a 100% disabled veteran sent me through college, but I can never imagine the hell he went through as a young man at Normandy and all the rest of the fighting.

The Once and Future Impeachment of Barack Obama

In order to prevent any impeachment trial the solutions is simple: Democrats and those who usually support Democratic candidates need to show up at the polls and vote. I don’t know why this is such a complicated concept to grasp, but evidently it is. Republicans get it, but far, far too many Democratic voters need to be excited or arm twisted into casting their ballots.

This type of voter apathy by Democrats in 2010 is what allowed my state of Wisconsin to elect a college drop out as our governor and Russ Feingold lost reelection as senator. Republicans got out and voted, Democrats did not.

Senators are voted into office by the entire electorate of a state, it is not gerrymandered. So every vote from every district is important, no matter how red it might be. Democrats simply need to vote to succeed.

Governments are formed, laws are passed, policies are made as a result of those who choose to take part in the electoral process, not by those who choose to not vote, but then complain about the result of their inaction. For Republicans to succeed with impeachment in the Senate, all they need is for Democrats not to vote.

Huffington Post Finalizes Its Divorce From Its Bloggers

Ironic, from one of the related posts above from April 2010 (http://planetpov.com/2010/04/12/at-huffington-post-nobody-knows-youre-a-dog/):

“Anonymity is just the way things are done. It’s an accepted part of the Internet, but there’s no question that people hide behind anonymity to make vile or controversial comments,” said Arianna. “I feel that this is almost like an education process. As the rules of the road are changing and the Internet is growing up, the trend is away from anonymity.” I disagree. People still want to be able to state their opinions without fear of retaliation from their bosses. They still worry about cyber stalking. They still want to be able to speak their mind without their friends knowing exactly how radical they may be.

“There is a younger generation that doesn’t feel the same need for privacy,” Huffington said. “Many people, when you give them other choices, they choose not to be anonymous.” She’s probably correct in that assessment—Facebook and Twitter seem to confirm that. But that’s because most young people have no idea about the dangers that lurk on the internet—they post all kinds of personal information. Having two teenage daughters, I can attest to their scary naiveté.”

I reckon Arianna got some money that changed her mind about internet anonymity.

I am another HP refugee and I’ve come to this site as a result of someone’s final post on HP where they listed this and several other alternatives. I’ve tried HPRefugees at MSNBC.com but could not get in and I find that site to be very complicated to navigate. Even the setup of the comments at HP made it hard to follow the comments and all of their responses.
