Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

Thank you Sue! That would have been very easy and I had tried that too, but then the video still didn’t show, just a gap. What is more, even yours I couldn’t see on my screen, although Bito’s video below was there!
My hour long search finally yielded that I had switched off plug-ins in my browser and in search of the solution earlier de-installed Flash Player. Now all is well, thanks again 🙂

It’s getting better all the time…

Remember how far we’ve come. From Academy Award®-winning director Davis Guggenheim: “The Road We’ve Traveled”.

This film gives an inside look at some of the tough calls President Obama made to get our country back on track. Featuring interviews from President Bill Clinton, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Elizabeth Warren, David Axelrod, Austan Goolsbee, and more. It’s a film everyone should see.

PS: I couldn’t embed the video although I thought I had tried all the suggestions on Help Desk. I hope someone can fix that.

The Occupy Wall Street Thread

Hi Cher – I’m still reading a little bit here sometimes, but decided not to get involved too much in politics anymore. I try to contribute to the world in developing more peace of mind instead…
As for too big too fail: see my reply to Emerald below- in one magazine they described UBS as not only too big too fail but too connected to fail- and this applies to the other 146 companies too.

» Posted By Truth On October 24, 2011 @ 5:59 pm

Hi Emerald, yes, that article is very interesting since here we are getting to the roots of the problem. I remember I listened to a discussion on a Swiss radio station around 25 years ago where they warned that the development will be such as described in the article. Unfortunately I don’t remember any solutions they suggested.

Anyhow, for readers information below I also post the list of 50 of those companies. UBS, Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse are some culprits of my region. In a German or Swiss magazine dealing with the subject they described UBS as not only too big to fail, but too connected to fail! – a very important point.

1. Barclays plc
2. Capital Group Companies Inc
3. FMR Corporation
4. AXA
5. State Street Corporation
6. JP Morgan Chase & Co

Report of worldwide protests:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44912532/ns/world_news/#.TpmkUM1Dcbg

And oh, how it annoys me! There were everywhere peaceful protests. And the headline in ALL media is… the one exception in Rome where a small group of wingnuts spoiled the protest by becoming violent.

» Posted By Truth On October 15, 2011 @ 8:22 am

I sure hope for this. Let’s see what happens! I’m still shocked that rethugs got back the House so easily – and the Senate was saved only barely in spite of that Halloween Party Republicans had put up. Angle, O’Donnell – I mean really!

Moreover I think the filibuster should be abolished altogether OR at least it should not be a tool just by threatening to filibuster. They should be forced to follow through and this too every single time.
But honestly speaking: 51% IS the majority, so to demand 60 votes for everything (and Dems going along with that) is … criminal? – at least certainly not democratic.

» Posted By Truth On October 14, 2011 @ 12:04 pm

Yes, it’s interesting and unexpected what is happening. Suddenly the left gets heard and receives media attention again – even in the US, where some of the grossest media manipulation is taking place. And, people take finally to the streets – which I always hoped for, because it also helps Obama to make that much bolder claims.
But then, as you said several times before: if the pressure gets too big people just HAVE to push back at one point. And America is in a state where this is really extremely necessary.
However it is wonderful that the protests are spreading out to other countries. The problems are similar there, but leave most people not yet in as bad a shape as Americans. But the pattern is exactly the same and it doesn’t do any harm to counter the problems earlier.

Just read in a Swiss online newspaper that on Saturday protests are planned in 868 cities in 78 countries- including in 4 Swiss cities.
Generally Swiss and German newspapers are reporting almost daily on the Occupy Wall Street movement – similarities with the 68-demonstrations are pointed out regularly. Good!!! 🙂

Hi e’cat, thanks, I’m fine, I hope you too. I’m still reading here sometimes and I hope I didn’t miss out on any of your articles? I’m looking forward to reading them.

There are reports about the Occupy Wall street movements in German, Swiss, English and Indian online newspapers and this is only what I saw, it seems to be reported worldwide. Now with several unions and others getting behind them there is hope this is going to gain more traction….
