Still not looking good. That being said, I had the opportunity to watch a film that truly affected me in ways that I wasn’t even conscious of and wanted to maybe pass along the information. For many, this movie isn’t their cup of tea. It’s a bit disjointed and scattered a bit, but there is a creeping, lingering affect this film has despite its shortcomings. It stars Daniel Craig (007), Keely Hawes, Eve, and other British favs. It revolves around the fading Hollywood star (Craig)who has more money than sense and lives the lavish, decadent lifestyle so many Hollywood stars do. His fame is fading and when he gets a call from his mum in England telling him that his best boyhood friend has died unexpectedly. The sequence of events that follow featuring a lengthy flashback to his childhood can only be described as phenomenal, IMHO. The film is called Flashbacks of a Fool and had a terrible opening run and I think has since gone straight to DVD or download. Yes, it’s no Citizen Kane and does suffer from some development issues, but nonetheless, it is now starting to find a cult following among people with a heart. The music throughout the film will throw you back to 1973 glam with one particular pivotal scene featuring the song If There is Something by 70s icons, Roxy Music. Lots of Bowie as well…

I was reading an article about video game evolution and what the future holds for a coming surge in processor power and virtual world scenarios. The writer was suggesting that with the popularity of virtual ‘Skinner-box’ MMO games like WoW and Spore, where users create their own ‘reality, lives, and scenarios’, we, too, could be a product of this ‘Matrix’ illusion. The creators longer build a finite set of rules, worlds and events…the players create them as they need them or experience them. They simply distribute the blueprint and the players become the architects, creating an endless world they just keep adding to. This he tied in with the thesis I referenced about post-humans running ancestral simulations whereby WE are in a world we create in the same manner. I’ve watched the damned thing 5 times now…and am still left aching with a nostalgia that few movies ever leave me with. If you’ve ever wanted to cry a GOOD cry for all the wrong reasons, then please check this film out. It will stay with you I think as it has me. The Roxy Music lip-sync scene will captivate you and make you remember that fleeting feeling of flirt and fancy from your youth that maybe you’ve forgotten. I know I had. It does have some adult themed scenes so, watch it 1st before letting the kiddies have a watch. I’d love for at least one person in here to watch this film and tell me what they think. I’m curious if this lingering, strangely reassuring beautiful feeling washes over you as it did me or if I’m just a sentimental old bum. Here’s the trailer:

The interesting part I dwelled on was the suggestion that if we as simulations ever got close to discovering that we were, in fact, just a simulation, the ‘operators’ would simply provide either incorrect data for us to ‘discover’ or they would simply manipulate time backwards to adjust the variables so that we never uncover the truth.
I bring this up to ponder two things:
1 – It would certainly explain the deja vu’ phenomenon.
2 – It would explain the weakness of gravity in part, although I understand the ‘brane’ theory on this, as well. As gravity weakens because it has to pass through so many dimensions before reaching us, etc.
3 – It might explain the apparent lack of ‘dark matter’ between tangible matter in the universe as this is only a simulation and to save memory the creator just exclude things perhaps on a quantum level.
4 – This is my favorite. Remember when the large hadron collider at CERN ‘broke’ this past December? The scientists could not understand why the machine was stopping at a critical point in the tests. This happened 3 times. One scientist even said something to to the effect of ..’Well, it seems someone or something doesn’t want us to get this thing running at full capacity. Maybe they’re coming back in time at sabotaging the experiments’….
This opened up a whole Pandora’s box of totally uncritical thinking for me…LOL~
Maybe UFOs are the operators, too…? 😉

After further reflection, it’s entirely possible I injected a tone of sub-conscious bitterness to my post. It was not my intent. As mentioned by another member here, sometimes men steep in their own testosterone and it comes out incorrectly. I have many passions that overflow their levees from time to time and that doesn’t excuse snarky behavior. I express my understanding and apologies if the comments I made came across the way they were perceived. Honestly, I don’t think I’m ‘that’ guy…
When I lived in Florida, we had a huge branch of Scientology in downtown Clearwater. You would see them milling about the street corners downtown going about their business in their Navy-esque uniforms. One test of bravery for us high schoolers was to see if we could get into the building, ride the elevator to the top of the very tall headquarters and make it out without being captured and tortured with an E-meter…LOL~!
I knew several members that worked in many businesses and I remember them telling me they couldn’t quit a job without finding another member to take the position they were vacating. But I have to admit to a large degree of ignorance about the actual religious belief system.
Didn’t the 3 Stooges or the Marx Bros use the Dewey, Cheatham and Howe moniker in one of their movies?
