I hate to say this and it is not very nice but I will not give to organizations who send my money oversees. There are too many children here that could use those funds and I only give where I know it will stay either in my community(food banks) or where I can receive confirmation of my money staying in the US. When we start taking care of our own then it will be time to worry about others. It was very disturbing to me that people actually will vote against their own interest but I have to understand some people just will not educate themselves. I had staff on the east and west coast and they were a lively bunch but get them in a meeting and sometimes they would clam up so I found an ice breaker. The Darwin Award given to an employee(including me) for something silly they might have done. I’m frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in “A,” “B,” “C” and “D.” Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?
And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of “conservatism.”
