As promised, it just took a little bit… Celebrating my 50th birthday on 10/9 made me think of you for reasons I’m sure you will recognize by the date of my birth. Bonus points for you if I don’t need to tell you why…. » Posted By SmotPoker On October 21, 2015 @ 2:09 am Thanks PP. You are correct, no good news on the hearing. The Cochlear Implant really hasn’t cut it, all it tells me is that someone or something is making noise, but I can’t tell you what people are saying it really has no clarity for me without the hearing aid in the other ear. The good news is that I’ve really, and completely come to terms with now being deaf. It is what it is, and I’m comfortable with it now spending a large part of my day without any hearing aid. I do hope the article I submitted was in the proper format, I didn’t include any pictures in this one unlike my “article” abut the night karma made me her bitch that was put up so long ago. I do believe that you good folks will find it a funny read. Peace to all that replied, and we’ll talk soon. » Posted By SmotPoker On October 21, 2015 @ 2:06 am Hey gang, I found my way back! Sorry for the absence, and I can never manage to stay awake long enough to do the VOX. Just a quick note that I submitted a new article that I hope you will enjoy, titled: I’m Never Getting Stoned In Arizona Again. I’m going to try to hit the Weekend Music Thread this weekend. I may not be able to hear the songs anymore, but I do remember them, and hope to participate. Again, I hope you all enjoy the article if our fine editors see that it is worthy of being being posted. Peace! » Posted By SmotPoker On October 20, 2015 @ 1:39 pm Best birthday gift EVER! I’ve smoked them a time or two, and they are pretty good smokes. That said, I believe you should focus on quitting smoking period. 🙂 » Posted By SmotPoker On October 5, 2014 @ 5:43 pm Well dude I used e-cigs to stop smoking. At one point I had quit for over 3 years, and stupidly started it back up again. I’ve since gone back to the e-cig, and I’m happy to say I haven’t smoked any tobacco in a couple of months now nor do I intend to again. If you are interested in something like that I can point you in the right direction for some of the better liquids, and hardware. It’s a vapor so you aren’t “smoking”. I know quite a few people that have quit smoking with these devices. They don’t market them as smoking cessation devices due to legal reasons, but it works for me, and many others. As for your COPD, all I can say is try not to sweat it too much. I have been diagnosed with it as well, they had me on Spiriva for a bit. I still live my life as normal as normal is for me these days, but that’s from a completely different issue, not the COPD. Take heart that it’s not a death sentence, but perhaps a wake up call for a lifestyle change. You hear what I’m saying? Of course I have no idea how badly you may be suffering so take what I say with a grain of salt, and the good intentions that were meant. I don’t really feel the effects of it, and I long ago stopped with the Spiriva. Quitting smoking is a real bitch, harder than quitting heroin from what I understand. Hang in there, and know that you have all of our support, and remember there are tons of sites dedicated to helping people quit, many of them with forums so that you can talk with others that are experiencing the exact same issue as yourself. Hang tight dude, some shit you have no control over, so try not to focus on that shit, focus on the shit that you can control. » Posted By SmotPoker On October 5, 2014 @ 5:41 pm I couldn’t find anything on the site my friend. » Posted By SmotPoker On October 5, 2014 @ 5:14 pm Hey big fella, how’s it going? What seems to be troubling you my friend? I couldn’t find a way to message you directly. You are more than welcome to contact me via Skype. » Posted By SmotPoker On October 5, 2014 @ 4:26 pm Greetings everyone! As you may be aware your manhunter, BeatleX was able to track me down the other day, and ensure that everything was fine with me. I appreciate any concern, but I’m fine. I’ve been simply riding the waves of depression, and keeping myself busy helping out a couple of folks with some projects so I’m not simply sitting around with nothing but time on my hands. Friday night seems to sneak up on me, and with the late start to VOX where I live, it’s a hit or miss if I can manage to be awake once 10 pm hits. I had every intention of joining it last night, and I awoke at 5:30 this morning to discover that I had once again missed it. Dammit! I’m not sure if I mentioned it on here, but 3 weeks ago we had to put down yet another long time pet when our beloved cat Baby Girl developed issues with fluid in her lungs turning every breath into a painful struggle for life. After 14 years it was time to say goodbye to yet another loved one. That left the big cat Lenny as the only “original” cowboy still standing with us. The ex wife had brain surgery around the same time in an attempt to relieve her of her epileptic seizures. She tried to connect with our daughter prior to the surgery, but they were still having issues so she asked me to intervene. I talked to my daughter about it, and was able to convince her to make an attempt to speak with her mother before the surgery. Of course that went sideways pretty fast as her mother fell right back into the behavior that led to their estrangement in the first place. I explained to my daughter that I truly believe that her mother simply cannot help but to act, and think the way she does to the damage her brain has suffered over the years from Grand Mal seizures. It has effected her personality over the years of that I can certainly attest, as it was a factor in our divorce. I did my best to explain to her that it was beyond her mothers control, and that if anything she should pity her rather than hate her. I told her that I had no doubt that her mom loved her beyond measure, recalling how when my daughter was a young child her mother was what we would call a helicopter mom, always hovering over her, attending school with her, volunteering in her classroom. It was over the top, and I had to intervene to get her to dial it back a couple of notches. Unfortunately I don’t think my words were heeded. The afternoon of the surgery she got a text from her mom’s boyfriend telling her that her mother was being taken back to the hospital as she was suffering what they thought might be a stroke following her surgery. Luckily it wasn’t a stroke, but that’s all I know as my daughter has once again blocked her mom from contact, and no new information has been given to me. I feel pity for my daughter, and ex wife over their relationship, especially in light of the recent loss of my own mother which I’m still coping with on a daily basis. I’m hoping that maturity will come sooner rather than later which will allow my daughter to see the wisdom behind my words so that they can repair their relationship before it’s too late. Speaking of the kid…I gave approval for her to get a new pet. She brought home a little bundle of energy disguised as a kitten that we named Emma. She’s driving her Uncle Lenny bonkers, but he is showing surprising restraint. Her Uncle Jello has gone after her a couple times, and had to be disciplined, but he’s coming along now even allowing her to lay on him in the chair when they all climb up to sleep where I am sitting. In short, I’m fine, just keeping on keeping on. I’ll try like hell to make it to the next VOX on Friday. P.S. Boy that was a looooooong post. Sorry bout that, just wanted to catch anyone up that was interested. OH! That reminds me…Hearing is not improved from the Cochlear Implant although at the last tweaking I was able to distinguish the separate “click” noises individually rather than just having a wave of “feeling” pulse through my head, so I got that going for me…… More on the hearing in another post, I gotta run for now. Toodles. » Posted By SmotPoker On August 16, 2014 @ 4:42 am It’s very possible Sue, as I did frequent HP before the December purge requiring verified FB account which will NEVER happen with me. Thanks for the kind thoughts, and have fun here on POV. It’s a real hoot if a bit slower than HP or others it more than makes up for with quality. Yes, I am quite informed about E-cigs, and tried to help others that were curious from time to time. They allowed me to quit smoking for over 3 years. » Posted By SmotPoker On July 20, 2014 @ 2:04 am Thanks guys. No time to chat of course. I just got a Skype from my kid that her car broke down so I got to go deal with that…. Bwuahahahahaha! » Posted By SmotPoker On July 19, 2014 @ 1:10 pm Hey gang, sorry I missed VOX yet again yesterday. It’s been another rough week here in the Smotpoker household. I can’t seem to shake the infestation of death in my family this last year. On Friday my daughter and I had to put down her beloved cat Baby Girl as she had a tremendous amount of liquid in her lungs, and was beyond saving. Every breath was painful for her, and we were forced to say good bye far too soon. We got Baby Girl in 2000 while living in Utah when I was still able to work. We had a couple of kittens already, but when I saw Baby Girl in the box in front of a Wal-Mart I knew that I had to take her home. I went to pick up my daughter from some event, time has fogged the exact memory, but I clearly remember my daughter letting out a squeal of delight when she saw the gray fuzzy tale under some blankets in the back seat. She was thrilled to death thinking I had brought one of the other kittens named Lenny along. She was even more thrilled when she discovered that it was in fact Baby Girl under the blanket. While it hurts me deeply for her to pass I take comfort knowing that no cat on the planet has had a better home for their entire lives. She never experienced fear, or hunger. She only knew pain at the end of her life. She was pampered as if she were a princess, and she behaved as if she was one. She was loved dearly, and she will be missed just as dearly. I’m down to Lenny left from the old gang. Gone this year are Coco, and Baby Girl. Losing them was incredibly hard, but nowhere near as hard as losing my mother in November. The feeling of living at the base of Mt. Shitstorm that erupts with the consistency of Old Faithful is truly getting to be old. The cherry on top is that my brother has now been extradited to Florida for breaking his probation, and we have no idea what the future holds for him. He lost his biggest champion, and financier when our mother passed away in November. Dad is tired of his fuck ups, and I can’t say I blame him. Meanwhile I have been “forced” into becoming my brothers champion with my father, taking over the role from my mother. I’ve written my brother off for so long it really bugs me that now I found myself fighting for him with my dad. Not so much fighting as being the voice of reason, forgiveness, and understanding rather than looking to verbally punish him or withdraw all support in his darkest hour. Throw in going deaf in January, and it’s been a real trying time, easily the most difficult of my life. To all who read this, thanks for taking the time to listen to my mini rant. I’m just emotionally, and physically exhausted, and needed to let something out even if it’s online to strangers. I’m in no danger emotionally so relax. I may feel like the shit never ends, but I’ve never stopped trying before, and I ain’t ready to just yet either. The problem with being a lone wolf is that when you do need an ear they can be pretty hard to find… » Posted By SmotPoker On July 19, 2014 @ 10:29 am Hey man, what happened to the Sunday Funnies? I can’t find them anywhere on the site. » Posted By SmotPoker On July 9, 2014 @ 6:03 am It just never fucking ends does it people? You ever feel like you live at the base of a shit volcano that is constantly erupting, and destroying everything? My kid brother got his probation violated for any number of reasons, I’m still not entirely sure myself what the final straw was for the state. Florida told Michigan to violate him, and pick him up. It looks like he is headed to Florida to face the music. This time he will be doing it without the help, and counsel of our mother since she passed away on November 15, 2013. He lost his biggest source of money, and support when she expired. My dad has had enough. My brother was the cause of a lot of strife in their marriage with my mother ALWAYS picking up the tab, and the pieces whenever he fucked up. This time it fell to my dad, myself, and other family members to pick up the pieces, pack up the shit in his house, and find a home for 2 of his Pugs, and have a third one put down as he is in dire health. It really pissed us off to see this poor dog in the condition he is in because my idiot brother couldn’t bear to end his misery. Selfish as always. We can only visit on Saturdays so yesterday my dad, myself, and my daughter went to the county jail. It didn’t end well. I can’t hear shit even with the hearing aid, and cochlear implant with all the noise in the visitation room. I’m told that he whined that his family had bailed on him because dad refused to put up his house for bail…. Dad told him that HE failed himself, and us, and from what I gather that was the end of the conversation, and the end of our visit having solved nothing nor made any progress as to finding out what the fuck is going on. The worst part of it for me is knowing all the effort, pain, and money that my mother went through trying to protect his ass over the years. It played hell on her health the last 8 years of her life as you could literally see the life draining from her with each passing incident or crisis. She didn’t have the strength left to fight off the cancer that took her life! I’ve got soooo much I want to say to my brother. I’ve started the letter 3-4 times now only to discard it as too harsh. I find myself wanting to rip him a new asshole with words, condemn him for his actions, and failures in particular his failure to come to our mothers dying bed when she asked for him because he was too fucking high, but also understanding that he is in a fragile place right now mentally, and I don’t want to push him over the edge so that he does something stupid like suicide. So you kind people get the pleasure of at least a sample taste of how I’m feeling at the moment. Thanks for sharing the burden by reading. Oh joy! I just got a message that we found a home for those two poor little pugs. They are sweet little girls, it’s not their fault their daddy is a fuckup. This makes me feel a little bit better. » Posted By SmotPoker On June 29, 2014 @ 7:59 am @Nirek: It means the post is directed AT the person it’s addressed to. » Posted By SmotPoker On June 29, 2014 @ 7:44 am Thanks. » Posted By SmotPoker On May 30, 2014 @ 11:53 am It’s funny what a few tokes of cannabis can do for ones creativity. I cranked this little bit out in about 10 minutes following my morning smoke. It was in response to a story about a man claiming a time warp disoriented him, transported him from one state to another, and he killed a trooper on the highway. It is as follows enjoy, and as always feedback is welcome. Hang on dudes, let’s not be too hasty in our judgement on this gentlemen just yet. You see good people, I too have been the victim of a time/space warp years ago whilst I was visiting a dear friend for the day in a marvelous place called Amsterdam, located within the Netherlands. A lovely spot, with friendly natives, ample entertainment, and refreshments on every street. A truly wonderful place. A stroll among the village reveals brightly painted doors of a myriad of colors. A robust sea trade cutting across the city from the ocean inlets. The scent of coffee shops wafting across the breezes. Magical, I say, simply magical. I happened upon a coffee shop, and feeling a thirst I ventured inside happily looking forward to sampling the local brews, and concoctions. As I entered my eyes needed to adjust to the darkness, and haze of a strong, skunkish, but sweet smelling smoke. Once adjusted, I traversed to the bar to place my order with the barman. As I stepped to the bar I was greeted with a smile, and a question of how he could assist me as his hand swept across a menu that was on the bar itself. While there was indeed coffee of many varieties, and sweet concoctions of which to enjoy with the coffee, my eyes were drawn to the pictures of what can best be described as “plant buds” of varying degrees of green, purple, orange, and covered with crystals of some sort that shone the reflected light as if verifying their existence. I must say I was intrigued to say the least my dear friends. I inquired from the barman ( I later was informed he was known as a “bud tender”) if that was for tea, and he gave a slight chuckle perhaps at my ignorance, or my innocent, it matters not I suppose, and told me that yes it made a fine tea, but he recommended that I smoke the plant as one does tobacco to experience the effects immediately as opposed to waiting for the effect from ingesting the plant into my digestive system. Properly informed I ordered an expresso, a muffin, and 4 grams of their finest buds, anxious to experience this local treat. I acquired a booth, and awaited the arrival of my expresso, and muffin, as I broke apart one of the buds to make it suitable for smoking as instructed by the “Bud Tender”, he had promised to show me how to “roll a joint”, and would bring something called a “Water Bong” for me to try. He arrived as promised with said water bong, my expresso, muffin, and sat opposite me in the booth as he happily exclaimed that I was in for a real treat as this was the best buds in the land at the moment, it was in such demand that the price had made it unaffordable for my new friend. I told him to worry not as if the experience was as promised his tips for his service would keep him in fine buds for a month, and he was to join me in smoking this fine herb. He swiftly rolled a joint, and passed it over to me in order to light. I struck a match, took it to the end of the joint with the other end firmly in my lips, and inhaled, held it in for as long as possible as instructed by new friend, and exhaled. A moment passed, then another, and then I don’t know what the fuck happened. The world exploded in color, the sun’s rays streaked through every window a golden lazer crossing the darkness that had pervaded the establishment upon my arrival. It was simply stunning. I sat, and looked at my new friend who smiled at me with an amused glean in his eyes as he inquired to how I liked it. I opened my mouth to reply that I was awestruck at how quickly this substance effected my perceptions of the world, but all that came out was “Grrrrple, ddjjjjityyyyo, flugglehinkle” according to my new friend who was laughing uproariously at my reply as he giggled that I now sounded like a true Dutchman as he continued to howl at my response. He recovered, and recommended I take a drink of the expresso to rid me of what he called cotton mouth, and I did indeed feel a dryness in my mouth so I took a sip of expresso. We finished the joint passing it back and forth between inhalations until it was too small to grasp with our fingers. We continued to smoke, laugh, and develop a friendly bond. I still need to attend to the business of seeing my friend, and I inquired if I could have a carriage called to help me in my travel to my friends residence. The bud tender asked if I meant a car, which I had never heard of before in my life. The day of my arrival was June 14th, 1891 yet somehow as the effects wore off I found myself in the year 2014. So yeah, it’s possible dudes. » Posted By SmotPoker On May 30, 2014 @ 11:38 am Thanks bud. It will be what it will be. » Posted By SmotPoker On May 27, 2014 @ 11:02 am Well kids it looks like Santa left me another lump of coal this week. Fuck that guy…. The cochlear implant was activated today, we went through all the channels (22) to get a baseline. All it really does at this point is give me a “feeling” inside my head when I “hear” noises. No distinction between noises, just that “feeling”. Next week I return for another adjustment to get it a bit more finer tuned. Think of a equalizer on your stereo. We are going through each channel and trying to find that sweet spot for that Hz. I should start being able to hear voices and words by next week until then it’s more of the same. » Posted By SmotPoker On May 27, 2014 @ 10:18 am Thanks. Yeah he is awesome. He really riles up those that refuse to learn from history, and prefer the lies they have been told. The Cochlear Implant gets activated tomorrow!!! I’ve been in a bit of a weird place lately with so much turmoil in my life, I’ve let a lot of interest slide to the wayside. I apologize for my rudeness by leaving without so much as a warning. Anyway, I’ve returned to a first love of reading, combined with my love of learning, and history I’ve started to re-read Howard Zinn’s A People’s History Of The United States which can be read in it’s entirety free online at http://www.historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html I’ve just finished up chapter 2 when it hit me that this would be an excellent source of discussion here on POV. Anyone interested in giving it a read, and discussion here on POV? To those of you that have never heard of this historic book, it’s a non-whitewashed version of US history, told not from the victors point of view, but often from the victims or impartial viewpoint, and with honesty no matter how it makes the heroes of history or what we have been told looks in contrast. Once again the link is http://www.historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html If you haven’t read this marvelous book in the past, I would strongly urge you to start reading it today. Hood shooting. I crafted the following in response to the report, and felt inclined to share it with my friends here at POV. I just returned from having breakfast with my dad at a nearby diner, and I’m absolutely beside myself with anger. I’m sick of this shit, every day it’s something different. I place my order of a Country Omelet, with white toast. Dad gets a couple of over easy, with bacon, and also white toast. Things appear to be going well enough, small crowd of older folks at the diner chatting among themselves about their different pains, and ailments. Our order arrives, and the waitress informs us she will be right back with our toast, and drinks. A moment later she arrives, back with a plate of toast that’s absolutely burned to a crisp, black as a moonless night. We look up at her, and start to ask her what the fuck is going on, and she shrugs her shoulders, and points back to the kitchen, with an exasperated look on her face. My dad, and I turn to look, and see fucking Obama wearing a cooks hat, and an apron grinning at us, and flipping us double birds. He’s ruining fucking everything… The story can be found at: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/03/fox-friends-finds-obama-responsible-for-ft-hood-shooting-within-first-24-hours/ » Posted By SmotPoker On April 3, 2014 @ 6:13 am Not a lot of words are needed for this, the chart at the top of story tells the whole tale. http://www.commondreams.org/view/2014/03/28-7 Depressing. » Posted By SmotPoker On March 29, 2014 @ 6:12 amComments Posted By SmotPoker
