Overdue For Extinction

I have been long fascinated with the Cambrian lifeforms… very exotic stuff. 5 legs or a dozen, two heads, whatever. Absolutely NOTHING like we know of today.

If those exinctions had never happened, we all might be ACTUALLY talking out of out butts! LOL

Truth – I got your point about HP paying for rabble-rousing to boost click counts and the size of the Comment files.

I wonder about the economies of that, though. They can’t be paying much or it wouldn’t make financial sense, and that’s what it’s all about over there, isn’t it?

BTW – the meme that us liberals do the same thing was circulating on HP shortly before I canceled my account there.

Either it’s totally false (which I believe), or it’s a part of the “both sides are bad” meme, or some people just can’t imagine that their opposite side isn’t just as bad as they are.

I can never tell…

Truth, Thom Hartman on his radio show has, more than once, said he has actually been in blog ‘war rooms’ sponsored by the right where interns post on progressive sites to do damage and support the memes they are trying to promote.

e’cat – LOL Thanks… I don’t know if you saw it, but I was talking to someone last night… I used to be an AOL Room Host back in the day…

I was in The Red Dragon Inn as the bartender… greet people, bouncer, you name it!

We had a program called Ghost that made it easier.

I figure the ‘seniors’ have a lot to do, so, if I see someone peek inthe door, I have this thingy set up to paste.

No biggie!

kelly – I used to scare ’em off by publishing partial physical addresses or half their phone number or even the first names of the ex-spouse or mom in the chat room. Scared the crap out of them. But it ended up being too much work for just a user to be a traffic cop and kindergarten teacher all the time. I just did it when they pissed me off enough.

kelly – It’s an old trick I saw in AOL chatrooms years and years ago…. been online since online existed… LOL

We used to have (and still do) people with three, four and sometimes five computers all with different SN’s in a chat room flooding the room with nonsense and hate. Some people, for some unfathomable reason, get a kick out of it.

How do I know? Um… let’s just say I used to have software that could track names back and tell me locations and so forth. High end hacking stuff.. (I know people that set up primitive websites and forums before the internet existed and I asked around).

The point is, it’s nothng new, and I learned years ago not to let it bother me, which is why, I suppose, I never got into the flame wars and succumbed to the trollery. Been there, done that, knew what I was looking at.

What I found interesting is that the “loss” resulted in that many people that just cancelled out in one day, and that from just people that were in my fan base. If that was typical, that means they lost 15% – 20% of their commenters overnight.

I wonder if they anticipated that.

I had to think a while before cancelling my PW account over there. I had over 1600 fans and two years’ worth of comments. I worked hard at it and tried to stay above the fray.

I don’t think badly about anyone that stays, but, like someone said, why can’t you do both?

I guess habits are hard to break.

I just like the Coinyer dude, and I have always wondered who the hell “TheRealTeabagger” really is. Another guy who just totally cracked me up. His satire was amazing!

@jdm: I’ll tell you what I usually say when this comes up. Been online one way or another since there WAS an online, and I learned early on to think of an image of the peeps on the other end of the on”line”…

I visualize women in their late 60’s, sitting at the dinette, wearing a housecoat, bunny slippers and curlers, chain smoking Parliaments and drinking Four Roses from a cracked tumbler, a cat curled up next to the laptop.

I visualize men in their 50’s wearing a torn t-shirt and worn boxers, black socks that won’t stay up, sandals, and a comb-over, chain smoking Marlboro reds, drinking Stanley beer, sitting in a messy man-cave in front of a beat up desktop, with an old black Lab farting in the corner.

I don’t favor the ladies, jdm… or the men. LOL
