Ted Cruz (R), pointed fingers at the Obama administration amid growing public unease over the crisis, a key detail in the story had been missing: Texas public health officials already had authority to impose quarantine restrictions on persons suspected of having contagious diseases such as Ebola, regardless of CDC recommendations. “Had the state used its public health powers more robustly, health care workers who treated Duncan might not have been circulating in public, and much of the ensuing panic could have been stilled,” the Texas Tribune wrote on Wednesday. Perhaps cognizant of this fact, Perry in early October announced the creation of a task force focused on improving the state’s response to potential outbreaks of infectious diseases. One of the recommendations called for legislation that would expand the state’s power to enforce quarantines. Under current law, per the Tribune, state officials could only enforce a quarantine order via law enforcement after a person explicitly violated the order by leaving the designated premises. Perry also came under fire from Democrats for failing to cancel a scheduled trip to Europe, where he hoped to burnish his foreign policy credentials ahead of a possible presidential campaign. The governor was forced to return to Texas after Vinson became the second person to test positive for the deadly virus. The governor hasn’t cleared his administration of total wrongdoing, however. The deregulation that the GOP has been able to do has hurt real people. All to help the 1%ers and BIG business.

Another thing that bugs me is that President Obama has nominated a Surgeon General and the likes of Cruz refuse to confirm him because the President is Black. He said today that the Dr. was not a medical guy! He is a MD.

My 11 year old grandson has asked lots of questions about the Vietnam war. I made a box and put my medals in it and gave it to him. He shares his interests with friends.

Americans have become complacent or ambivalent about voting. Those who want to vote are also being restricted by some of the GOP’s tactics of making voting difficult for minorities.
I blame the extremists for perverting the Muslim religion.
