How long will Boris Johnson be Prime Minister? The next general election is due to be held in 2022 – five years after the previous one in 2017.

That means, if he doesn’t resign or call for an earlier general election – both of which where things his predecessor Theresa May did – and subsequently lose it, Johnson could remain Prime Minister for at least the next three years. Other MPs could also call a vote of no confidence – which was another thing May had to contend with not long ago and on more than one occasion during her time as PM.

If a vote of no confidence were to be called and pass, then the current government would have 14 days to come up with a solution, and if no resolution could be found, a new general election would be triggered and Johnson’s position as Prime Minister would be threatened. As yet however, while we wait for the remainder of the Brexit process to play out, and with Boris’ hard-line Brexit stance already prompting cabinet resignations, nothing is certain.

On a related, though tangential note….I have clients who have experienced very significant increases in their pharmaceutical costs, and in some cases, the denial of claims entirely all based on actions by the Trump poisoned Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services which are permitting insurance companies to reclassify drugs (event those with long histories of use and success in treatment plans) such that they are listed as supplemental, pilot, or experimental.

Biden is not so much saying that Americans do not want a single payer system as he is pointing to whether such a system can be engineered, launched and then supported……he asks good questions and his experience with the ACA is undoubtedly a principal source for his concerns. Medicare for all. A nice slogan but I have yet to read a single set of proposals from anyone that I find convincing. Have you?

In this, as in so much else, we see Trumps complete failure to comprehend the most basic of constitutional conventions and tenets AND we also see his utter disdain for anyone who disagrees with him. I hope that he is making it virtually impossible for the Justices he appointed, or who might be presumed to support him, to provide any succor for him or his government by whim.

I have no intention of doing so……we have an instrument of government, the constitution, which has from the start been a boondoggle…built on the basis of a set of ideals by a revolutionary generation that believed that they could govern without political parties and from the heights of revolutionary zeal. It fell apart very quickly and we have been staggering along ever since. The big crises: The Louisiana Purchase, the Corruption of the Jackson Administration, the Failure to Deal with Slavery, the Civil War, the Gilded Age, the Withdrawal from Global Power Planning post WWI, the Great Depression, Vietnam, Watergate, and now Trump.

Each time it was a massive struggle with an outcome that was in no way guaranteed to put the country back on its way….and the strategies in each case were at times hamfisted and at times elegant. I think elegant works better.

Amash has drawn crowds that seem to prove the point and now it is likely he will be primaried by forces quite willing to cut the legs out from under him. Perhaps he has prepared for this. I do know he is talking of becoming a libertarian (which will sound the death knell on his political future).

I am a practical person. If the goal of the dems is to cleanse the WH of a would be despot then the game must be played so as to deal themselves a winning hand and avoiding dealing him any aces. Risk taking has had its successes and its failures….many popular movements have seemed to be resetting the stage only to make way for even more repressive government. Remember the Arab Spring?

Very high minded and such thinking has its place but if the Dems have as their number one priority cleansing the WH then they cannot give the man any aces to play at this high stakes game. As to criminality……the role of popular opinion in crime enforcement need only be consider in the matter of the decriminalization of pot to know that the court of popular opinion is pivotal.

I hear what you are saying but the key percentages are those that show Democratic support for impeachment investigations. At best those numbers have remained at barely 50 percent. I am anxious to see if the Mueller appearance begins to change that. Further while I never expect a majority of GOP to support this the number opposing it needs to drop below 90 percent. These are the lessons of both Nixon’s and Clinton’s impeachment.

I am not as happy as many are with Mueller. He had a freer hand than he suggests. Look at Starr and Clinton for ex. I found his language today far too guarded given the report. And thus I believe his testimony will have value as he will have to clearly state what is in the report…even if all he does is quote it. It will be his voice. I also expect to see other members of his office team called and their understanding probed. Mueller provided cover in his statement to Barr….and while a careful reading of his statement shows that his positive review of Barr was very guarded….the impression is one of a thumbs up.

I was concerned about the same point. Watching the entire statement and reading it leads me to say that he will be adding to the info in that report in any testimony. He will, I think, testify and he will respond to questions with the material in the report. Of course what he chooses to point to will, like today, give more than a little indication of his position and it will lead to video of his narration of the events reported which will be far more compelling for many. That is what moved Watergate from a beltway gossip scandal to a national cataclysm.

If their intelligent services are wise and self-protective the steps you outline here would be obvious and most appropriate. So…it would seem that the damage is already done AND, it now occurs to me, I wonder if trust in our system will ever be restored in that I believe that the foundation for the fault is in our system itself. The constitution of the U.S. is just not up to the challenge. That I have believed for many years but the Trump admin is proving to be a laboratory in which that thesis is being tried.

I have not had the pleasure of interacting with you before….one of my first moves in looking at an article like this is to begin with the platform on which it is being promoted. In this case that is LifeSite which began as a project of the Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). Their basic position is socially very conservative as part of the Canadian Pro Life Movement.

So…..I read the article…..I kind of get your reaction to the two stories….I have a difficult time with mockery in general but I also understand that people can be hyper-sensitive. The question is how accurately did this article depict the interactions at play here. I do not know.

I also wonder what this has to do with common sense which is in your headline. What is the common ground that you are promoting?

Wasn’t Mueller a Hoot this morning!……

The Scottish Legal system has three verdicts in a trial…Conviction, Acquittal and Not Proven….If the jury thinks the defendant (called the “accused”) probably did the crime, but the prosecution has failed to prove the elements, they can/will issue a “not proven” verdict. … From 1/5 to a full 1/3 of all “innocent” verdicts by Scottish juries are “not proven” as opposed to “acquittal”.

I think that is the best Trump and gang can hope for given that Mueller said: ‘If we had confidence the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so’ They did not.
