My hope is that the failure of HP and other sites will allow the membership here to grow into sufficient size so that the kind of cogent, effective, and fun (especially when opposing views collide) dialogue that made the early incarnation of HP the vital community it was.

Moreover, a community of all like-minded participants cannot grow intellectually. It will be interesting if more posters from the Right eventually make their way here…less the more idiotic trolls (Left, Right and Whatever) that so often leave a bad enough taste in one’s mouth to turn a site into an online ghost town. Let’s hope that any of the few remaining Eisenhower Republicans find this place, for example. {wink}

I always find it quite amusing that Conservatives are so concerned with “tone” as their tone and tenor in politics today is either flat out rude, or at best reality challenged.

Now if you object to my characterization then your perception is not reality based dating all the way back back to the Speaker Gingrich era of politics.

And furthermore, for you to characterize a lack of political cooperation, progress and discourse in this country as the fault of the Left, then again your judgement is not reality-based.

You have fallen victim to Miles’ First Law, to whit:

Faulty Premise = Invalid Conclusion

And finally, Conservatives have done well to advance another meme without merit in the cause of dishonest dialogue, and that is the notion of every issue having two sides of equal weight. For example Conservative claims of man not effecting global climate change, or that the age of the Earth being less than 10,000 years-old.

Many here will probably cut you a break because those on the Left try to bend over backwards in an effort to be an artificial brand of “fair.” But I am an empiricist and an ordained Minister, I require facts in my discourse secular and not, not simplistic phrases or sound bites or simply “because it’s in the Bible.”

My tone IS aggressive, and I argue from facts; that ALWAYS puts Conservatives off because a failure to counter fact with fact is a loss.

D-Day: My Dad and His LSM Bombarding Omaha Beach

I was born in the mid-50s, and ironically enough my father never spoke of his war experiences. And although his and his compatriots’ entry into the US Military was one of national pride, they also felt that they had to prove their loyalty to this country.

I have read little of the 442nd other than dry, factual information of their remarkable war record (as I have of the Tuskegee Airmen), but instead concentrated my study of those who were interned. My favorite book of that period is “Citizen 13660” written by Miné Okubo. My father received an inscribed copy of her book and I first read it as a child.

As for your question, I am half-Japanese, half-Black, quite the combination for a post-war United States; at least as far as the father being Japanese. As stated before, I have serious issues with this country’s treatment of non-whites.

And although one of my father’s cousins is in the Medal of Honor recipients above, a wide swath of his family was wiped out in Nagasaki…
