Displaying 0 To 0 Of 0 Comments The Failed History of Conservatism in America “For me “conservative” is an awkward label. I know a lot of conservatives that really don’t resemble the list you have compiled.” That’s because conservative, what it used to mean, is not the same as a neoconservative or as you say, right-wing. Historical conservatives were slow to war and fiscally responsible. Neocons are quick to war, empire builders who won’t let money get in the way of their folly. So, no. I don’t think a true conservative would resemble anything like the neocons that we are all so familiar. I think a conservative is more along the lines of a Libertarian (fiscal responsibility and hands off people’s lives). They (neocons) have corrupted the Grand Old Party and taken them far, far right. » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 5:12 am I still believe in Democracy and I don’t think it is is broken; it is just seriously dysfunctional. The dominant characteristic of our present ruling system is the firm belief that power is to be gained and maintained by manipulating the masses. Being honest with the population is rarely an option for them. This independent new site (http://ampedstatus.org/the-two-party-oligarchy-vs-the-people/) holds the following opinion, that I strongly agree with: Here are the seven key issues that keep 99% of the US population without political representation: 1) The two-party system; “Educate and inform the whole mass of the people, they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty. Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day.” » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 6:14 am Abby, quite a few huffpos looking for you-ArizonaAnnie kellyk311, cyrano I mentioned I just saw you here and the site name went through! I was shocked. » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 4:33 pm That’s how I learn too. I guess I was just getting flustered earlier–I was at work! LOL » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 3:59 pm Thanks! » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 3:58 pm I was too and I am still active over at HP and will still use it for a while as I wait and see what happens over there. Fingers crossed but not too optimistic with AOL at the helm. I have to say though, from what I have seen so far, love this site! No moderation, no pending comments, no comments that you carefully thought about only to have them disappear! And the spell checker an added plus as I am notoriously bad at typing (fast type but not accurate). » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 3:57 pm I always meant to ask over at HP..what does it mean when you say x2? » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 3:51 pm Woo Hoo! I feel whole again now that my avatar is here 🙂 Thanks again to those who helped me out earlier. » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 3:50 pm test » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 3:49 pm OK. Upload as in upload a pic or link to it. Thanks for your help! » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 12:37 pm Thanks all! What a warm welcome 🙂 Ok, I will check out gravatar. But then what? I don’t see an “upload profile” button or anything. » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 11:59 am Hi All–wandered over from HP. Just lurking at the moment but this site so far and love that there is no moderation! I think the weekend I had it with HP was when the AZ shooting happened-the thread was impossible to comment on and very frustrating. At a time, when people wanted to share their thoughts, HP clamped down on the thread. Question. How do you add a pic to your profile? I looked over the FAQ but either I missed or something or my brain or it wasn’t stated??? Any help would be appreciated 🙂 » Posted By LINY01 On February 9, 2011 @ 11:45 am No Kidding! Kinda scary, ain’t it? » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 7:37 am Unreal! I can’t believe they let that through! It will be sad to see HuffPo devolve to that but I suspect with the AOL crowd that they will see lots more of that kind of stuff. » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 7:15 am Mubarak: Half sunk, a shattered visage lies It’s almost like it was a ploy. Let the hope build up to a crescendo and then Pow! Deflate it. Why? To incite them to viloence so he has an excuse to strike back and crush them with violence. I hope the good peope of Eypt continue with their non violent apporach, even though they have been played by this delusional freak of nature. » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 5:08 pm Everytime I have tuned in to see what craziness he might spout, yes, he is always that bizarre. The chalkboard thing is so weird! » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 3:52 pm Mubarek is living proof of just how delusional dictators can be. The only thing is, they are deluding themselves! And Sulieman!! I was enraged when I saw his comment of, Go home and let us unite Egypt (or something to that effect), Hello! The people are united: against YOU! Sad developments and I hope that the good people of Egypt remain peaceful in their quest but if they don’t, I completely understand why. » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 3:50 pm Uggh. I guess it will never end; questioning his religion and his birth certificate as well. And even if he was Muslim, so what? Is there some law that says the prez can’t be? Personally, the faith of my prez makes no diff to me as long as he is secular in approach to governing. » Posted By LINY01 On February 10, 2011 @ 7:11 am Good Morning! HP, in my opinion, has moved beyond moderation; they flat-out censor. I imagine that this will only get worse with the AOL merge. I also noticed there are lots of new people there (from AOL?) and the posts are like one line hits and that’s all. If you reply with a question for someone to explain their position, its ignored. The Egypt thread last night had heavy deletion of posts. Frustration was high and many more said they would be leaving. I left planet pov in a few of my posts and they actually went through! » Posted By LINY01 On February 11, 2011 @ 4:55 amComments Posted By LINY01
