I only know him as Fat Albert and Dr Huxtable. I heard he was influential. I did not include Late Night, sitcoms, movies, and political commentators such as Jon Stewart – that’s its own list. Even Roseanne had some moments before she went insane. And as a teenager who got high listening to Love Line and watching the Man Show, I’m more surprised with Jimmy Kimmel than Adam Carolla – who was always avowedly Libertarian. I still recommend taking Joe Rogan with a grain of salt. I don’t think he has an agenda. His appeal is he is his own thing – and I don’t think nuance should be sacrificed for stupid people. As far as this goes, I don’t know how well comedy ever ages. Was Bob Hope funny? I dunno – not what I’ve heard. But I age myself as I remember Johnny Carson – I was young, but he was irreverent and a drummer. Hiyoooooo McMahon button was popular on early internet. Same with one-liners like Rodney Dangerfield or even Sam Kinneson. I think they had immense influence, but wouldn’t work now. And while I would never compare Andy Kauffman to Tom Green… cringe comedy never did it for me. It cringed me out, and I had to turn it off. I’d like to believe Andy Kauffman had a slightly more transgressive purpose though. And there are just awful comedians that steal or are lame. Before watching this I had the same list of conservative comics: Tim Allen, Jeff Foxworthy and stuff like that. Puerto Rico also has a black and white version used as a protest flag since 2019. Haïti and Liechtenstein had identical flags but didn’t realize it until the infamous 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
