30,000 Reasons to Leave Afghanistan

Obama was right on one thing in particular:

That the parallel to Vietnam is weak.

Ho Chi Min was not a primitivest. He did not despise America. He admired America.

The N Vietnamese were nationalists first. They were not deranged religious extremists. The communists were very popular in Vietnam.

The obverse is true in Afghanistan.

The terrain in both nations are difficult, but I think the jungle is worse. And both nations had or have corrupt and worthless governments. Those parallels exist, sure.

But Afghanistan is not the new Vietnam. If we fail there, it will be for reasons quite other than those of our failure in Vietnam.

The thing that is crazy? They take themselves seriously.

I suppose some idiots could argue that the Taliban, or al Queda, or Saddam, are or were ZERO threats to America. What tedium.

Obviously they are or were all threats to America. There are countless threats to America. Boogie boogie!!!!!!!!

There are all sorts of threats to me personally. Financial. Health. Emotional. Intellectual. Each of these has dozens of subsets. My prostate is conspiring to kill me. It is a fact.

THE FREAKING POINT IS TO BALANCE THE THREATS AND THE RETURNS!

One can quite competently argue that Afghanistan has been and will be a breeding ground for deranged religious extremists. Not that SE Virginia is all that different. But then one needs to ask: assuming that we gained control of Afghanistan, would there be no other venues for deranged religious extremists to share tea and a hatred for modern society? Other than SE Virgina and Colorado Springs, I mean.

One of the most convincing arguments that I can imagine against this war, that I have not seen, mind you, is that what has been lost is not worth what has been gained.

Now it is a right pity that young women are having their noses cut off, or having acid thrown in their faces. That is a real shame. But the ugly truth is that not all the world will live in as advanced a society as others. Some of us are burdened with the deranged religious extremists of SE Virginia or Colorado Springs.

I don’t have an answer. Could we get by without invading other nations, but rather improving our police skills? I think so. Dog knows that what we are doing is not all that sucessful.

The commanders on the ground! The commanders on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!

Booo hoo hoo! The commanders on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!

Somebody, remind me: Which unit was it that Rummy denied the “commanders on the ground” at the invasion of Iraq?

The third cavalry, if memory serves. They could have made the difference in the looting.

Never mind. Dems must kiss the ass of tjhe commanders on the ground, not the rethugs.

This is exactly what he offered you on the campaign trail.

You don’t need me to find you the precedents that lead to this.

Tiger Woods

Sorry if I wore you out.

I’m not at all sure that Woods could move Augusta, but I have not deeply considered the question.

As for Dubia, you need to tell me more before I get all chuffed.

I really don’t give half a damn.

I think I was saying: I don’t care and do not understand why anyone would.

Healthcare Reform: What’s in it for Me?

Quark,

Give us an essay defining “fee for service” and any models considered likely to lower the costs of health care.

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 30, 2009 @ 8:37 pm

No, no.

I am talking about people demanding medications and tests that serve no purpose, and doctors ordering tests for no reason.

Add to that the demand of Americans that we get only the best. We can’t settle for 95%. The Japanese use a lot of MRIs, but pay one tenth of what we do. Their machines cost a fraction of ours, and are about 95% as good.

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 30, 2009 @ 5:45 pm

What do we do about the 30% of heath care dollars expended that are utterly wasted?

Spent on medications that we don’t need and tests that serve no purpose. And I am not talking about “defensive medicine”.

The Price of being a Governor

I exist, only to serve.

» Posted By KevenSeven On December 1, 2009 @ 9:30 am

No doubt. Not that I expect a bible-thumping creationist asshole like Hick-He-Be to have much currency in Seattle.

I like what Hitchens said about Sarah451(approximately) : “What do you take me for? If this is the level of respect you have for me, you have lost my vote.”.

I trust a Christianist as far as I can throw them.

I could care less about fair.

Let him go down the same hole as Dukakis.

About so many things…..

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 30, 2009 @ 3:46 pm

I think there are un-plumbed depths yet.

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 30, 2009 @ 3:06 pm

Why is this not getting more play in the media?

Because the Media is run by a bunch of liberal coastal elietist Jews who would love nothing more than to tear down a Real American like Hick-He-Be.

Or had you not got the memo……..

I’d like to see the quotes from him in 1988 decrying the Willie Horton ad.

The Death of the Great Movie

I’m really more concerned with which one is good.

I have long ago given up on being in the majority in my tastes. I’m really quite OK with that.

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 30, 2009 @ 11:46 am

I do not know that we do not get great pictures on occasion, although you could certainly argue that the frequency is nothing like the Senventies.

I too have lost my impulse to go to the theater, although simple economics is the cause of that, as much as the quality of the flics.

Were one to review a list of the 100 greatest English language films, or American films, I’d not be surprised to learn that better than half of them were not roaring box office successes.

Tonight’s Recipe

Amen to that.

I own cookbooks older than that.

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 29, 2009 @ 9:22 am

Babe, I have been cooking seriously for over 35 years.

I am almost getting good at it.

Waddevah.

Not that my cats would ever prove that theory.

» Posted By KevenSeven On November 28, 2009 @ 10:48 pm

Thanks for the lecture.

I was perfectly happy doing without a photo, but I did not want the incorrect notion that that is what it looks like to stand.

Just a fact. Not a criticism.

That does not look anything like the Cipollata I make.
