Apparently there was more than circumstantial evidence in this hate crime when James Byrd was dragged to his death behind a truck. I don’t believe in the death penalty! Buddhists believe that human life is so precious that it should not be taken under any circumstances. Perhaps, if anything good can come of this, it will start a national conversation and maybe even changes in the law to ban the use of capital punishment. Life in prison without parole should be the maximum penalty, in my opinion. ADDENDUM: Barry Scheck, the attorney from the Innocence Project, is asking questions about the execution of Todd Willingham in Texas, and saying that Rick Perry will have to answer questions during this campaign about the possibility that he executed an innocent man! I don’t know how to feel okay with this. What are the members of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles doing tonight? Have they left their offices to go home to their families, perhaps to sit down to a good dinner? Are they even thinking about the man that is about to die at their direction? Will they sleep well tonight? How are the protesters feeling right now? Are they agonizing over this, questioning the system that would rely on circumstantial evidence to put a man to death? Have they done everything they can do to stop what they see as a grave injustice? What will they do at 7:01pm tonight? What will they do tomorrow? How frustrated and inadequate will they feel in the days to come? How are the jurors in this case feeling right now? Are they proud of their verdict? Do they regret their decision? Do they think that they may have made a mistake? How will they feel tomorrow when it’s too late? How are the family members of the slain policeman feeling? Are they happy? Will they be glad to get “closure” as the MSM loves to call it? Will they celebrate with their friends? What are our lawmakers thinking about this case? Can they justify killing by the state? Will they learn from this case? Will they consider passing a law to prevent the death penalty from being applied to a circumstantial case? Will they even think about it? More repub cuts in exchange for disaster funds! If these clowns don’t get it together by the end of THIS week, the government will shut down.
