IMO, he is nothing but an ignorant redneck racist! He and others like him should be run out of the country on a rail for remarks like that! I like him only just a tiny bit better than I like Eric Cantor…see my other comment on this thread! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 8:16 pm CL, I read that too! Very exciting news! Now, if the courts will just hold the line on these guys. Rachel did a segment on North Carolina tonight on her show. Seems that redistricting will cost us 4 Democratic seats!!! Not very good news at all! I am worried… » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 8:10 pm Bito, thanks for posting this. I heard about it on the news when that little snivvelling snot-nosed asshat SOB d*ckhead Mofo Cantor grabbed the microphone to announce that the President’s AJA was “unacceptable”! Sorry for the rant…but not really! You all must know by now of my undying contempt for that little b*stard!! What an ugly little man(?) who obviously has a huge complex due to a lack of any reasonable/adequate amount of manhood! There…I put it as nicely as I could without actually saying what I was thinking! Grrrrrr!! I just hope that when 2012 rolls around, the good people of Virginia will remember this as they stand in that long, long unemployment line! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 8:04 pm Hey funk! That’s really interesting! I am surprised. Thanks for posting! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 11:40 am Kes, I am so glad you are watching too. I think Reich was great! He is a most entertaining speaker, kind of a surprise for an economist. He is right…we have to unite to fight this takeover of the government by the rich and powerful! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 11:28 am Robert Reich speaking at the American Dream Movement conference: “Demoralization and cynicism are the most effective tools” that the repubs use against us! True! He also says that “many of us have let President Obama down”! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 10:55 am For those who might be interested, the American Dream Movement’s conference in Washington DC is being live-streamed: http://www.rebuildthedream.com/ They are reporting about 1,000 participants in the conference! I wish I could have been there, but I will surely listen in! π EDIT: They are breaking for lunch right now…stay tuned! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 9:34 am Kes, I’m glad you mentioned that little fact about the consumption. When I was a young girl, my grandmother was a member of the “Women’s Christian Temperance Union” that held weekly meetings in the members’ homes. These women were on the front lines fighting to abolish all alcohol, sanctioned of course by the Baptist Church that we attended. Alcohol, in their opinion, was the absolute root of all evil, breaking up families and wasting lives and money. I don’t know if the organization still exists, but my grandparents were tee-totalers. I don’t think a drop of alcohol ever touched their lips…at least until my grandfather was convinced by his doctor that a small glass of wine with dinner was good for his digestion! LOL My grandmother, OTOH, never touched a drop and thought it almost the ultimate sin! When I was a teen of dating age, I was prohibited from dating any boy from a Catholic background! And don’t even mention the Jews! That was completely unacceptable. The rationale for my grandparents’ rules was their drinking actual wine for communion in the Catholic mass, and against the Jews because they did not recognize Jesus Christ. You would have thought both Catholics and Jews had horns growing from their heads. I remember, before my grandmother died, that her opinions had softened somewhat. She became much more tolerant of others, although she never did condone any drinking. She tolerated my grandfather’s glass of wine with a pinched look on her face, but served it at dinner without complaint. Sorry…I didn’t mean to get on a trip down memory lane, but you just jogged a few things way back in my gray matter! π ADDENDUM: Kes, apparently the WCTU STILL exists but in far fewer numbers today. Their influence has waned significantly. They have also broadened their focus to include illegal drugs and abortion. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 8:21 am Bito, as usual your Twitter feed yields an amazing amount of great articles and much food for thought/conversation. There is one article that all of us should be aware of: This rant against ALEC should be required reading by every single progressive in this country! Paul Weyrich and his disciple, Eric Heubeck put together the guiding principles for the conservative attack on everything we hold holy. Excerpts are presented in this article that leave no question about their intent: “We will use guerrilla tactics to undermine the legitimacy of the dominant regime. We will take advantage of every available opportunity to spread the idea that there is something fundamentally wrong with the existing state of affairs. For example, we could have every member of the movement put a bumper sticker on his car that says something to the effect of “Public Education is Rotten; Homeschool Your Kids.” This will change nobody’s mind immediately; no one will choose to stop sending his children to public schools immediately after seeing such a bumper sticker; but it will raise awareness and consciousness that there is a problem. Most of all, it will contribute to a vague sense of uneasiness and dissatisfaction with existing society. We need this if we hope to start picking people off and bringing them over to our side. We need to break down before we can build up. We must first clear away the flotsam of a decayed culture.” =================================== In this brief excerpt, we can see the origin of the attack on education in this country. It is obvious what they think of the rest of us…”We must first clear away the flotsam of a decayed culture.” In other parts of the ALEC document, there is much emphasis on recruiting the young people of this country to conservative causes. I am encouraged that the Occupy Wall Street protesters have not fallen into their line…but could you expect any different from “flotsam”?? Bito, thanks again! You are doing us such a great service! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 7:12 am Hi Murph! I found the same atmosphere of help and respect when I first arrived at this site. These folks are terrific! Adlib and the rest of the crew always fix my messes and make me feel that I am just as important as any other member of the site. We definitely have some of the most informed and thoughtful people here. Never a day goes by that I don’t learn something new from them. I look forward every day to new articles from the others. This “user generated content” is so much better than simply blogging about a story from the MSM, put up for us by the administrator. I enjoy the back-and-forth of opinions. We’re all glad you are here with us…the more the merrier! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 5:31 am Bito, Oh please, please! If there is a god above, please let them get caught breaking US law!! That piece seems pretty damning! This is going to put a crimp in their teabagger style for sure! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 2, 2011 @ 3:33 pm Khirad, I really did change the channel! I just could not stomach that cr*p this morning! I changed over to Chris Hayes’ new show on MSNBC which was pretty good IMO. But I made the mistake of changing back to CNN at the end, just in time to hear that mealy-mouth Haley Barbour say that “President Obama surely can’t run on his record.” I would beg to differ with that racist blob! I cannot tolerate that man! IMO, he is THE poster boy for the deep-south racist rethug party! I’m just sayin’…. BTW, kudos to the President for his comments to the Human Rights Campaign when he dropped the hammer on the repub candidates for not denouncing the booing of the US gay soldier! That sure made me feel better!! Go Obama! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 2, 2011 @ 7:06 am Good morning, Planeteers! I usually watch the Sunday morning talkies, but this morning, I’m having a problem! CNN’s Candy Crowley has Dick Cheney and his evil spawn Liz as her first guests today! GAG!! When are the MSM channels going to quit putting this war criminal on the air to spew his venom? And why is this man NOT IN JAIL?? Think I’ll change the channel! Sorry for the rant albeit a short one! Just don’t get me started! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 2, 2011 @ 6:04 am Khirad, I love stuff like this! Thanks! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 2, 2011 @ 5:21 am Godβs Message To Rick Perry, Part 2 | MoveOn.Org. EDIT: Now this is really strange…I posted this maybe 10 days ago and it’s just showing up now. I guess my poltergeist is back! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 1, 2011 @ 10:30 pm Kt, your point about the review process is a good one. I don’t for one minute believe that the President didn’t give this a tremendous amount of thought. I heard that there was unanimous consent by the Justice Department attorneys in favor of it. But you know that the rethugs who cheer for executions are going to rake him over the coals for this. They will use any excuse. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 1, 2011 @ 6:16 pm Hi Bito! WOW! Is it safe to watch this? I remember you had some problems last week from a hacker. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 1, 2011 @ 1:30 pm Hi KT! Sorry I could not participate. I tried last night to join Vox Pop but found that my brain just would not cooperate when it had a migraine headache. The subject is so important, and there are good points on both sides of the issue. I admit to having mixed feelings. This made me think back to the Troy Davis situation and the question about the death penalty in this country. If we can execute citizens, sometimes with scant evidence against them, why is that any different than killing a terrorist who may not have actually participated in an attack against us? I’m not saying this is right or wrong…just asking. I honestly don’t know what I feel about this. While I think that the death penalty should be repealed in this country, I understand the threat of AQ and that to save the lives of others, it may be necessary to act preemptively against a known terrorist who has repeatedly threatened to kill Americans. A great debate last night! I am so proud of the folks here and wish that these comments could be read all over the Internet! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 1, 2011 @ 12:56 pm Hi Planeteers! I trust you all are well! I just wanted to give a big shout-out to all of you who were involved in yesterday’s discussion of the killing of an American by order of the President. IMO, it’s a shame that this discussion could not be separated out into its own category. If there was ever an example of the kind of thoughtful and respectful discussion that occurs here at the Planet, this had to be it! Kudos to all of you who had differing opinions but showed great respect for others! I have the greatest respect for all of you! Thank you for a most interesting and enlightening discussion! Would that other blogs were this good! π Have a great day, everyone! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 1, 2011 @ 10:22 am Good morning Sue! You’re up early! π Thanks. I’ve never heard of a case but surely there must be. I do wish that there was some way to get Thomas off that bench! » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 30, 2011 @ 7:10 am Hey bito! Do I see a unified message? π » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 30, 2011 @ 5:06 am Adlib, we’ve been hearing about this cr*p for some months now. I know the “wheels” turn slowly in Washington, but for Chrissakes, when are they going to do something about this crook??? I don’t know anything about how they deal with a crooked Justice, but is impeachment possible? Where is our ChoiceLady this morning? She would know, I’ll bet! » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 30, 2011 @ 5:02 am God knows, I hate this place sometimes! » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 29, 2011 @ 7:46 pm I was surprised when I read the actual petition. It did seem incomplete. He is covering lots of info on his show every afternoon. I kinda’ feel the same way about this as I do about Michael Moore and the protests. If it brings an issue to the forefront, it is good. The MSM obviously will not cover these issues. Any publicity is good publicity at this point. We have to remember that most people do not follow stuff like this as we do, being the political junkies that we are! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 29, 2011 @ 7:39 pm Another shameful day in North Carolina… It’s official..it’s on the ballot in the May primaries. A constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in this state. (It’s already illegal by law…they just want to make damned sure!) Why can’t these people just live and let live? » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 29, 2011 @ 7:26 pm No, Ad. He is advocating public campaign financing and eliminating corporate/lobbyist money. I would agree that this is confusing. EDIT: Only rich people run for office anyway! Try to get a Senate seat if you’re poor! » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 29, 2011 @ 7:15 pm Just a reminder from something I posted about yesterday… Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC has begun a petition drive to get lobbying money out of Congress. The response he reports today is terrific…some 55,000 people have signed on in two days! The link is: http://www.getmoneyout.com They are looking for at least 100k signatures. I think they just might make it! I would encourage you all to sign it! Thanks everyone! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 29, 2011 @ 1:51 pm Sue, love me some South Park! Nothing is sacred! I signed up for Netflix and they have every single episode of South Park. I especially love the Christmas ones. Hysterical! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 28, 2011 @ 7:19 pm Hey KT, I’d like to be in charge of the Capitol Hill menu for about a week. Guess what would be served?? π » Posted By Emerald1943 On September 28, 2011 @ 7:12 pmComments Posted By Emerald1943
