Time Out for O/T – Vol. 17

Bito…and ANOTHER thing!

A couple of economists made statements indicating that $1 billion spent by the government on infrastructure would pay for 25,000 jobs! Now, I’m not a math major for sure, but if you can multiply just one percent of those huge defense numbers by the number of jobs that would result if that money were re-directed into the economy, you would see an astronomical increase in available jobs!

I don’t have a calculator handy and my cell phone doesn’t do numbers that big…but you get the point, I’m sure!

Of course, there is no way we can possibly cut defense funding, not when it’s so much easier to cut NPR and Planned Parenthood and aid to the poor!! GRRRRRrrrrrrr!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 10, 2011 @ 1:30 pm

Kes, sickening! What a compassionate guy! By all means, let’s cut off aid to deaf, dumb and blind people! They are doing nothing but gaming the system for sure! Let them eat dog food! Grrrrr!

One thing I don’t understand…this guy is supposed to be a physician! How can he look at himself in the mirror??

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 10, 2011 @ 1:16 pm

Bito, those are some disgusting numbers! Where did Mittens get his “facts” that PBO was cutting defense spending? This is just one more of their lies that they repeat over and over until the sheep start to believe! It sets my hair on fire!!

Bito, this is good! As a small mom-and-pop shop, I can tell you that regulations and taxes are not holding me back. The main reason that my business is down this year is that people don’t have enough money in their pockets. Many have lost their jobs or are under-employed. We see fewer customers and those spend less on average. In addition to that, people are frightened about the state of the economy and just not spending as much as they have in past years. I expect that we will be down about 30% for the year. While certainly not enough to close the doors, it is a significant hit. I am lucky in that I have no debt.

EDIT: One other item I failed to mention about my shop is the rising cost of insurance. My general liability insurance premium went from about $700/yr. to over $4,000 for the same coverage. This is not insurance on the assets of the business, but simply liability to protect us from someone falling and breaking a leg on the property. I cannot afford insurance on my inventory. It would cost more than I make in a year!

I think we all can recognize a republican talking point when we see one! It’s just one of those never-ending lies that they repeat over and over as justification for stripping regulations and cutting taxes for their rich friends!

Bito, we have a bigger crowd for our small-town high school graduation every year! 5,000 my arse! 🙂

I am wondering how much her speaking fee is for a crowd this small! Do they get a discount, now that she’s not running??

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 9, 2011 @ 6:41 am

Bito, this was mentioned on the tube. Pretty amazing! I can’t believe there is actually a repub up there who is sane! But…oh well, they’ll drum him out of the corps soon enough.

Bito, another Twitter hit!

From ThinkProgress:

The Progress Report Banner
Republicans Attack The 99 Percent Movement

By ThinkProgress War Room on Oct 7, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Protecting the 1 Percent While Attacking the Other 99 Percent

It’s not news that Republicans will do nearly anything to protect the wealthy and special interests like Wall Street banks and Big Oil. Now they’re taking their own brand of class warfare even further by outright attacking the other 99 percent.

Here’s the rundown.

Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) Calls the 99 Percent Movement ‘Mobs’

—————————————

There is more to read here, including Romney and Cain, disparaging the protesters….

So, we 99% are MOBS???

Oh, I am so hoping that the rethugs continue their attacks against the OWS people! Nothing would be better for the hopes of the Democrats in the next election!

Done, Sue! Thanks for posting!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 7, 2011 @ 2:55 pm

Bito, they just aired a soundbite from Santorum, saying that he had a better plan than Caine’s 9-9-9 plan.

Santorum proposes a 0-0-0 tax plan! Now THAT is some really deep thinking! LMAO What’s he doing..channeling Michelle Bachmann??
🙂

Hi KQ! I really think that this talk about “uncertainty” preventing hiring is nothing more than a repub talking point! I have heard so many of them put this out as truth.

Their talking points are almost comical! Today’s meme is that the President is “kicking the can down the road”. At least five or six repubs have come to the microphone today to make that same statement. It could not be more apparent! I wonder if they get some kind of memo every morning from Boehner with the talking point of the day.

Hi KT!

You know FUX News is not going to air this, in spite of Roger Ailes trying to pull back from the brink last week. At least this is on YouTube and I hope it will go viral.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 7, 2011 @ 10:54 am

Hi Kes! Thanks for posting this interview. If the OWS movement wants a designated speaker for them, this guy would be great! He is articulate and thoughtful! He made some great points! I’m sure the FUX news guy didn’t agree with him.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 7, 2011 @ 10:52 am

Murph, that was good! I’ll join you!

I’ll bet her announcement has cut her speaking fee by at least $50,000! Pretty soon, nobody will want to hear from her…we can hope!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 6, 2011 @ 3:11 pm

No Patsy! No Chris Christie…but not to worry! They’ve had the entire day to talk about Ms. Mooseburger who is NOT running for President! PLUS a panel discussion on whether or not she is going to be a “king-maker”! Oh gag!!!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 6, 2011 @ 3:07 pm

Sorry, Hank! Here’s one of the ROWDY FRIENDS that will continue to watch MNF…and I won’t miss you one bit!

Now, go crawl back under your rock!

Agreed, KT! She has been portrayed as extremely capable and a real champion for the working people in this country…something that is sorely needed and that resonates with the people. I was really pleased to see her favorable numbers. We need her in the Senate!

I hope her campaign finances improve. She’s really fighting an uphill battle against the “darling of Wall Street”, Scott Brown, who is reported to have over $10 MILLION in his war chest!

One other item of interest this morning…from “People for the American Way”.

http://www.pfaw.org/press-releases/2011/10/congresswoman-donna-edwards-introduces-constitutional-amendment-to-reverse-ci

“Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-MD) and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI) introduced a constitutional amendment that would restore to Congress and the states the authority to regulate corporate spending on political activity, including contributions in support of or in opposition to a candidate for public office. This proposed amendment seeks to overturn the Supreme Court’s deeply flawed decision in Citizens United v. FEC, which granted corporations the same Free Speech rights as people to spend money to influence elections. The amendment is similar to one introduced in the last Congress, and was introduced with the support of 14 other co-sponsors. “

I think we all know how this will turn out! I ask the question again, “How do you get those who benefit from the corruption to stop the corruption?” Kudos to Rep. Edwards and her co-sponsors for trying!

Good morning, Planeteers! I trust you all are well!

Just when you think that things can’t get any crazier than they already are….

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/tea-party-nation-urges-monday-night-football-boycott-backs-hank-williams-senate

From the brief article:

“Hank Williams, Jr. is rumored to be thinking about running for the US Senate in Tennessee. As a Tennessean, all I can say is, “Run Hank Run!”

Just exactly what we need in the Senate…another ignorant racist bigot!

I, for one, can’t wait until Monday night. I would tune in even if I didn’t want to see the game! 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 5, 2011 @ 5:49 am

KT, that is absolutely stunning! What a terrible commentary on just how bad things are out there!

Sesame Street is supposed to be there to teach our kids their letters and numbers, and to support diversity in our schools and neighborhoods…not to deal with HUNGER! How far down can we go?

This comment brought to you by the letter “O” for OUTRAGE!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 5, 2011 @ 2:10 am

Bito, do we get the answer, or are you just messin’ with us?? 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 5, 2011 @ 2:04 am

Adonai, love that sea otter! I saw a Science Channel program about them some time ago. It showed them taking clams and bashing them against the pilings of a pier to open them…so adorable! I like the honey badger too, but it will chew your arm off if given the chance! 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 5, 2011 @ 1:59 am

Bito, I heard that the President was going to speak in Florida…then zilch! Instead, they gave over an hour to the fat blob who is NOT RUNNING!

Kinda’ makes you wonder…whose side is MSNBC on anyway?? Uh…never mind! I know the answer to this question.

Yesterday, BTW, it was non-stop Amanda Knox! They have their camera crews at the airport now, HOURS before she is scheduled to touch down in the US…with updates on the wait! My god, these people make me ill!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 4, 2011 @ 1:40 pm

KT, LONG LIVE ACORN!! 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 4, 2011 @ 1:13 pm

Bito, that was the most ridiculous waste of time and the public airwaves I’ve ever seen! MSNBC devoted right at an hour of Christie NOT RUNNING…and then much more time given to all the talking heads, talking about Christie NOT RUNNING! They didn’t even interrupt for the commercials!!! Unheard of!!

Maybe now, we can have our news(?) back?? I am quite frankly looking forward to NOT having to look at Chris Christie’s big butt every time I turn on the Tube!

Kes, 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 4, 2011 @ 9:38 am

Kes, thanks! Yes, I’m still battling the H/A…it’s been with me for days. I can’t seem to break this one. I’m not functioning very well. Taking meds but they don’t do very much.

You guys will just have to hold down the fort until I can think straight! 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 10:00 pm

Khirad, thanks…I just thought I had read about her on the dominionist watch sites somewhere. I stand corrected. 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 9:56 pm

Kes, somebody airbrushed those tiny little horns out of the picture! Wouldn’t he make the PERFECT demon??

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 8:42 pm

Kes, OMG! You are on a roll tonight! Verily I say unto you, please don’t make me laugh…my head is still splitting! 🙂

» Posted By Emerald1943 On October 3, 2011 @ 8:39 pm

Bito, If I’m not mistaken, Pamela Geller is one of the Dominionists that we have been discussing. Not sure about the Jay guy but he probably is too. What a bunch of sick people!
