The deck is so stacked against us common people. I don’t know what it will ultimately take to solve this simply because it is so widespread. Seems that all of the 1% have their hands in the cookie jar! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 23, 2011 @ 8:59 am KT, I am right there with you! For Pete’s sake, we cannot afford to “nation build” in Iraq, Afghanistan, or anywhere else. When we have one in five children in this country living below the poverty line, we need to take care of our own FIRST! I am not trying to be hard hearted or “isolationist” here, but I believe that unless we take care of ourselves first, at some point in the not-so-distant future, we will see the collapse of our own society/economy and will be totally unable to help ANYONE! Would it not be better for the immediate time-being to concentrate on getting American back to full employment and financial solvency whereby we CAN help other countries? IMO, this should be the plan. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 23, 2011 @ 8:46 am Bito, π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 23, 2011 @ 6:44 am Hi KQ! Yes, you are right…to a point. According to what I know about the subject, the tar sands oil is about the dirtiest oil that can be had, with a much higher carbon emissions rate. Environmentalists have condemned it as being the worst. The oil that would be processed from tar sands goes, as all of it does, into the world markets. Some countries, namely the UK for one, I believe, have prohibited the import of this kind of oil because of its pollution potential. We learned from the BP spill that ALL oil goes into the world markets and does not affect our gas prices here. There are so many factors that determine the price, including the situation in the Middle East and demand from other countries. Then we have the leakage issue. It is a known fact that pipelines are notorious for leaks. The path of this particular pipeline crosses our largest aquifer, endangering the water, as well as having the potential for extremely toxic run-off from leaks and spills onto the surrounding farm land as well as the rivers. The area affected involves a number of states, an immense area of our “bread basket” in this country. Yes, the American people are “hooked”. There is no doubt about that. We have known for a long time that the changes are going to be painful for everyone. But my opinion is that we have to begin somewhere. We are already increasing off-shore drilling under this administration, contrary to what the President has advocated in the past. We know how that works out when spills happen. We are not ready for the change to clean energy. This has been the hang-up for some time…electric re-charging stations and batteries will have to be developed before electric cars can even begin to stem the gap. The big oil companies have done a great job at stifling the development of alternative energies. However, adding to the carbon emission problems and transferring this extremely toxic kind of oil will do nothing for our energy requirements here, and it places our environment in a precarious position with the inevitable accidents. At some point, we as a nation must draw the line. Either we adopt the policies that lead us to independence from oil altogether, or we don’t. Considering the dangers from tar sands, I believe it’s time for us to draw that line. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 23, 2011 @ 6:36 am From “Alternet” an article that gives me pause… The President is about to make the decision to allow the dreaded Keystone XL pipeline…or not! I had not read anything in depth about it, but I figured that the evil brothers would have their smarmy hands all over it! I was right! Another demonstration is planned in Washington DC early in November against this “carbon bomb”! I am praying that the President will do the right thing and deny it, but I have a really sinking feeling about it! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 9:42 pm Bito, that’s OK…I’ll pass, thanks! π I don’t need ANY of their brand of “faith” or “freedom”! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 9:37 pm Bito, WHAT?? Nothing about the “job creators”?? Have they changed their talking points? » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 8:58 pm Well isn’t that special!! I still think he’s dumber than a box of rocks! You said it, Murph! He is neither ready nor able! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 8:54 pm Kes, maybe all the RW christians should remember to remind their rich friends to “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s”! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 8:49 pm Kes, since I’m left-handed, I guess I am a total loser! π What a bunch of cr*p!! Why do they always think they have to back up their BS with bible verses? As Cain has said, “Can I get an amen?” » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 7:36 pm Bito, another hit from the Twitter feed: Apologies to all if someone else has already posted this, but it’s worth really reading again! “Top executives from Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, General Electric and other firms sat on the boards of regional Federal Reserve banks while their firms benefited from the central bankβs policies during the financial crisis, the Government Accountability Office investigation found. The dual roles created an appearance of a conflict of interest, according to the GAO.” http://www.politicususa.com/en/bernie-sanders-wall-st We can thank Senator Bernie Sanders for telling us what we already knew…but it helps to get the message out there for people who don’t follow politics the way most of us do here at Planet. Now, how do we stop them??? » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 4:10 pm Khirad, now that was certainly uplifting! What a little douche he is! (Emphasis on the word “little” of course!) I think his mom must have put books on his head when he was young. Dear Leader can’t help the fact that he is vertically challenged, but he certainly could help his people when they need food! I remember last year that some video had been smuggled out of N. Korea showing starving, half-clothed children in the streets. Meanwhile, this d-bag has a million-man standing army that gets fed first! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 6:05 am Khirad, sorry to hear about your grandma! Hope you can save her from herself! It boggles the mind that perfectly sensible people can fall for this kind of bogus cr*p! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 5:58 am Adlib, just when you think they can’t get any more weird… So, let me get this straight. Starting June 26th, we are in the “count-down” to the return of Christ and all these leaders and important people are planning a one-world religion? How much money is it going to cost the average believer?? Shocked, stunned and startled, I tell ya’! Remember to send in your contribution so you’ll get put on their special prayer list. That’s the ONLY way you will get that new refrigerator from God! Just send your money and have faith! Delivery is free! Oh these poor deluded people! This bunch of crooks should be run out of the country! What a load of rubbish! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 5:56 am Khirad, now that was a great way to start out my morning! LMAO “Dear Leader” spends more on medals for his generals that an average Korean would spend on food in ten years! Meanwhile, his people starve in the streets! What a great guy! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 22, 2011 @ 5:37 am Javaz, I still don’t understand why Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz have not been charged with war crimes! This will certainly go down in history as the most shameful thing ever in the United States! God bless President Obama for ending the war and bringing the troops home! Now, let’s do the same in Afghanistan! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 11:10 pm Funny, funny stuff! Thanks for posting it, KT! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 10:52 pm CL, since Sister Sarah bought that big house in Arizona, she must have been hangin’ out with Brewer and giving her lessons on victim-hood! Just sounds like something that Ms. Mooseburger would say! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 10:46 pm Khirad, thanks so much for posting these! They’re amazing! My daughter really gets into the whole Halloween thing and loves to carve her punkins. She’s got a 65 lb. monster this year. I am going to share these with her. I know she’ll like them. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 10:01 pm Bito, that is disgusting! How low can HP go?? » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 9:57 pm MSNBC business news reports this morning on the widening income gap. Median income in the United States has fallen in 2010…down 1.2%. Just FYI… » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 7:35 am Good morning, Planeteers! I really think that the right-wing has completely gone off their rockers! The teabaggers have instructed their business-owner members NOT to hire employees, just to hurt President Obama! I guess we really can put the American Jobs Act in the trash! The repubs are not going to pass even one part of it. Damn the American people…they don’t matter anymore! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 7:31 am Khirad, where is that “rim-shot” thingy when you need it?? Very funny! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 21, 2011 @ 7:26 am Cher, thanks so much for that article. I want to re-read it tomorrow when I can stay awake. It’s getting pretty late here and I need some shut-eye! Thanks again! You’re a pal! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 10:58 pm Sabreen, that’s what I think too. I really believe that this time, they are shooting themselves in the foot! The American people are watching what they do now, maybe more so than ever before. Everyone knows how bad the country is hurting right now, and unless they are complete idiots, they can see the obstruction by the rethugs. This can only help the President. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 10:36 pm Love me some Joe! He’s fantastic on the stump! I really hope the President turns him loose! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 10:33 pm Sabreen, I really don’t get this at all! What is his game? I would think that he would be the President’s biggest fan. Is he just trying to get attention? Selling books? Trying to increase his speaking fees? I can’t figure this one out! At any rate, I can’t stand him! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 10:24 pm Sabreen, I got so angry at West’s interview on Big Eddie’s show that I yelled at the TV! West is a piece of cr*p IMO! I used to enjoy seeing him make an occasional appearance on Bill Maher’s show…that is, before he started bashing the President every time he got a chance! This is total BS! He should be ashamed of himself!! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 9:08 pm Sabreen, I’m right there with you! I assume that you are angry about the same subject as I am! I hope, if this is the way the rethugs are going to handle the Jobs Act, that the President bashes the hell out of them every time he gets in front of a microphone! They deserve to go down…hard! The American people simply have to wake up and see what these bastards are doing to this country! I don’t know how President Obama can keep his cool!! He knows how badly the country is hurting right now, and the repubs throw everything right back in his face. He has to continue to pitch his plan and shame them for their obstruction for the next 12 months! He cannot afford to let up for even a day! He is, after all, our only hope to save this country! Can you just imagine if the repubs take both houses of Congress and the White House? God forbid!! But somehow, I can’t believe that the people will get fooled by the teabaggers again! The election can’t come quickly enough for me!! On a brighter note, yesterday here on PPOV, there was some information posted by Bito, I think, and Cher about the economy in case you didn’t see it. Seems the unemployment figures are definitely looking better for the first half of October…and the other good news is that economists are forecasting a GDP growth of 3.5%! This is really great news for the President. If the trends continue, the unemployment figures would be down to just around 8% or less by election time next year. That would certainly be a boost for him. We just have to work our butts off to make sure he gets that second term! Maybe it’s a good thing that the repubs are doing this now. The people are aware of what’s going on in Congress, mainly because of the OWS movement. They have shown a spotlight on our broken system…and the people are watching. This is a really good thing and can only help the Democrats! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 9:04 pm Bito, no prob! The Vice President did get feisty with some little punk who tried to twist his words today! He put his finger up to the punk’s chest and told him not to screw with him! It was great!! Biden is the man! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 20, 2011 @ 8:37 pmComments Posted By Emerald1943
