Displaying 961 To 990 Of 3,333 Comments Kes, this is exactly what has helped spawn the OWS movement! Last night on MSNBC, they were stressing the point that there are clearly TWO different sets of laws in this country! The President has said that the bankers did nothing illegal in their mortgage/derivative schemes, a blanket statement that he maybe should not have made. But it was reported this morning that a Goldman-Sachs director was arrested and is being charged with criminal offenses. I don’t have any details yet, or even a name. I’ll do some digging on it and get back to ya’! EDIT: Here’s the skinny… Insider trading….well, duh! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 26, 2011 @ 6:56 am Khirad, severe brain fart! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 26, 2011 @ 6:50 am Hi Khirad, it would not be an issue at all if we weren’t fighting this ridiculous “war”, chasing guys all over Afghani-ghani-stan-stan. This is hypocrisy that we could well do without! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 26, 2011 @ 6:46 am Sue, I hate it when that happens! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 26, 2011 @ 6:36 am Hi e’cat! Hope you are well! Perry always looks to me like his clothes just don’t fit quite right. There is something about his shirt collar and tie that looks strange. This morning, the shirt is all scrunched up, and he’s wearing that SAME red tie. I don’t think he has another one. The rethugs don’t have to worry too much about the teleprompters. Perry doesn’t seem to be able to read from anything. He stumbles along slowly. I want to yell at him to just spit it out! Perry shot himself in the foot pretty badly in the debates. I don’t know if he can revive his campaign now, even with $15 million in the bank. Mittens and Cain are eating his lunch. I predicted at the outset that he would go down in flames. He’s got entirely too much baggage to make it. Even the old meme of “liberty and freedom” won’t be enough to vault him back into the lead. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 8:58 am Javaz, I wonder what “stuff” he wants them to lay off of… π Robertson is right, but sshhhh! Don’t tell him! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 8:53 am Funk, π No chocolate-filled! How dare him??? » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 8:48 am Breaking news: The Oakland Occupy protests have essentially been broken up by the police. Early this morning, as MSNBC reported, the police came in and arrested a large number of protesters who had refused to move from their park location in the middle of the city. Apparently, tear gas was used, but no injuries were reported. FYI… http://www.mercurynews.com/top-stories/ci_19188591 » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 7:27 am Bito, my apologies! I didn’t mean to make you exercise your gray matter on such an arcane subject! This stuff is so over my head, but what you’ve said sounds OK to me! Anything that will take back some of the money they’ve ripped off from the people! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 7:23 am I hope you’re right, Kalima! That would be terrible. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 7:19 am Khirad, this is what a desperate candidate looks like! He’s polling in the single digits behind Mittens and Herman. They’ve eaten his lunch. He may have some money, but that can’t make him look like he’s got a brain. I have serious doubts about his IQ! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 25, 2011 @ 7:17 am Cher, you’re right. I had forgotten that Cain was a lobbyist for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. He must have not been a very good lobbyist for the restaurants. You can’t smoke in any restaurant anywhere to my knowledge! (At least, not any restaurant where you would want to eat!) π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 9:53 pm Cher, where on earth did this come from?? That has to be the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen. And what’s with the cigarette smoke? A lot of people would be turned off by that. What would be the up-side to having this weird guy blow smoke toward the camera? Is this some kind of subliminal message that Cain is “blowing smoke”?? π I agree with Kes about that snarky grin by Cain at the end of it. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 9:35 pm Kes, maybe naive was not the right word. I think that he really did come into office, hoping and sincerely wanting to bring the sides together to get something done for the people. He had to try. That is certainly not naive on its face. But I don’t think that he ever realized the depth of their hatred of him or what they would risk to defeat him. Should he have realized it sooner? Possibly, but as you say, nobody can accuse him of not making every effort. I think this only adds to his credibility as a leader. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 9:28 pm Sue, YIKES! That can’t be good! I wonder if any of the debris is “hot”…! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 8:51 pm Bito, that’s typical! If he goes through Congress, he gets totally shot down. If he doesn’t go through Congress, he gets raked over the coals for not going through Congress! Same old sh*t, different day! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 8:47 pm Hi kes! This is exactly what the base of the Democrats has wanted for a long, long time! It has taken the President quite a while to get the message that the rethugs are NOT going to work with him. Was he naive? Maybe, but in fact, I don’t think I’ve heard the word “bi-partisan” from his lips lately! It sure is nice! I’m so glad to see PBO out there, pounding the podium and cutting them no slack..just like they have treated him for the past 3 years! GO OBAMA!! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 8:45 pm Bito, rethug screams of “unfair” beginning in 5…4…3… But let me ask the question, 2% of their actual tax owed, or 2% of revenues, or 2% of what? » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 2:20 pm Javaz, π Love this little guy! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 2:17 pm Sue, it sounds like you got out as well as you could under the circumstances. If you had waited for the prices to rebound, you might have been waiting for a very long time. And you were right. Other foreclosures in the area would have done nothing but lower the value on your property. The whole system is so totally screwed! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 2:15 pm Kes, amen! Cornell West should stick to protesting “stop and frisk” as he has been doing. He made an appearance this afternoon on Martin Bashir’s program on MSNBC and he thankfully did NOT take the opportunity to bash the President but instead, limited his comments to police activity with unconstitutional search and seizures. This, IMO, is where he can do the most good. I am not taking up for the guy. I still am very angry at his “turncoat” antics to get publicity or whatever his agenda happens to be. But I will give him credit for taking on the New York City police for their obvious bias. I do agree with you about Nader! Let the rethugs and the Koch bros. spend their money on him! Great idea! That dog won’t hunt! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 2:04 pm Hey KQ, whatever will get them the most clicks! Follow the money! How disgusting! When they can out-Drudge the Drudge report, there is nothing more that you can say! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 1:56 pm Hi Adlib! Thanks for putting this information out for us. Earlier, in response to Marion’s post about “ratf*cking” from sites like HP, we were discussing this with a few folks. This is just another example of what we have known for quite some time. HP is NO friend of this President or the Democrats! Avoid them, boycott them…forget them! They are not worth our energy! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 1:54 pm Bito and all, apologies if somebody else has already picked up this story from the Twitter feed: This is a very scary story. Apparently, someone threw some kind of explosive device into the OccupyMaine encampment. No one was injured, thankfully. Now, let’s just hope the we don’t have “copycats” trying to do the same thing. The various Occupy locations may need to assign teams to watch out for this kind of thing and alerting both protesters and the police. After all, when people are sleeping out in the open, they are sitting ducks for those who would do the unthinkable! Good job, Bito! Thanks for all you do! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 1:48 pm Sue, I’m having difficulty in finding a place to respond to you. The thread ends too quickly. West is a pitiful excuse for a “brotha”! I used to see him on Bill Maher and thought that he would be most interesting in a classroom. I would have loved to take a course under him. But now, NOT AT ALL! He has shown himself to be a ridiculous, pompous asshat with his attacks on our first AA President. He is nothing but a self-serving hack, operating from his sense of being persecuted by President Obama because PBO did not acknowledge him as some kind of special expert on all issues! How dare PBO not personally invite him to the inauguration and hand-deliver the invites??? IMO, West has an overly inflated opinion of himself. He would do well to take his self-serving pity party somewhere else! He is certainly NOT the voice of the AA people nor any of the rest of us! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 11:37 am Bito, SOCIALIST, COMMUNISTS giving all that money to all those hippies and jobless free-loaders! In 5..4..3.. » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 11:28 am Javaz, I smell Koch! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 11:24 am Hi funk! Yes, great news! There was an article a few days ago, showing a nice increase in the GDP rate for October, maybe up as high as 3.5%. This is great news for the President! Here’s a link to a WSJ article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204618704576645041926034306.html Also, the unemployment numbers are still going in the right direction. There was a really good chart showing the long-term trend. If it continues as it has been going, the President should be in pretty good shape by the 2012 election! Several talking heads have predicted that if the unemployment rate can get down around 8%, he should easily win re-election. IMO, people are just too darn impatient! The President has said that it’s going to take time. Now, if the American people can just hang in there… » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 11:10 am Kes, it is staggering to think of the PAIN of the people who are losing so much, while the fat cats continue to rake in the bucks! I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people in the world. My little home is completely paid for. The taxes are low and I can manage perfectly well. I don’t have the terrible threat of foreclosure hanging over my head. I cannot believe how people are able to keep on keepin’ on with this horrible stress. Where are they supposed to go when the banksters come to lock them out? It occurred to me a few days ago…If a person loses their home to foreclosure, their credit is ruined. In my area, you cannot rent an apartment without a credit check. What are these folks supposed to do? Where are they supposed to live…in their cars, if they have one to live in?? This story will go down in our history as one of the most cruel times, a stain on our national soul! How can our representative government let this happen to so many millions of people?? Oh, I forgot…this is NOT representative government anymore! Never mind! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 11:04 am Sabreen, yes! Nader should stick to worrying about exploding gas tanks and the like. Leave the politics out of it. I have not forgiven him, nor will I, for siphoning votes from Gore in 2000! Moore is a little different. While not exactly a consumer advocate, he is able to bring attention to some important issues. But he’s no politician for sure. Guys like Moore, Nader and West just need to butt out! » Posted By Emerald1943 On October 24, 2011 @ 10:51 amComments Posted By Emerald1943
