Time Out for O/T – Vol. 17

With all the hoopla about Herman Cain, the child abuse scandal at Penn State has taken a bit of a back seat. As I read about this, I am completely sickened.

Allow me to vent a little…what in the name of God is wrong with men who go after children? I simply do not understand. It is such a sad state of affairs that more value was placed on the sacred football program at Penn State than on the lives of the little boys who were preyed upon by this pervert!

IMO, the entire leadership of the athletic department at Penn State should be immediately fired, along with any other administrator of the University that had knowledge of the situation. Apparently, this was known some years ago. How could they know and not take action? Sickening!

Bito, that was kind of my point too. Maybe it was a reporter, or maybe just one of the women who thought to correct a terrible wrong in Cain’s candidacy.

Patsy, this old dude is spot on! The repubs have been busy for over a decade trying to privatize everything and selling off turnpikes and bridges for profit. The man is right! If the American people don’t wake up, we won’t have anything left in ten years! I don’t think he’s exaggerating at all!

Khirad, Ann Coulter recently made the statement that if the GOP did not run Chris Christie, then Romney would be the nominee and the GOP would lose! From her lips to God’s ear! Let’s just hope she’s right.

The polls right now show PBO ahead of Romney by 6 points in the general. I know…it’s too early, but it is a hopeful sign, considering the state of the economy in general. If Europe can get its financial house in order and not blow up our shaky situation, I think the trends are going in the right direction. Too slowly to help much, but at least in the right direction. I’m trying to be the eternal optimist!

Murph, I read that point about the Nader campaign being financed by the GOP somewhere. I would not be one bit surprised if that had been the case.

I’m not as worried about a third-party candidate as I am about the voter suppression and the re-distribution of electoral votes in some states to try to deny President Obama the votes he needs to win. These guys are shameless! They don’t even try to hide what they’re doing!

Invient, I saw the clip of Cain laughing and joking about it. His comment about Gloria Allred was horrible and shows his disrespect for women in general!

Khirad, I see your point, but what is striking about this other complaint is that fact that this kind of behavior happens way too often. If you are an attractive woman, you can almost count on having some kind of uncomfortable situation in the workplace. The incidents can be very subtle and subject to interpretation but nonetheless discomforting for the woman. Although hard to prove sometimes, the woman knows the message being sent.

My daughter is a classic beauty..tall, blonde and gorgeous with a model’s figure. I cannot tell you the problems she’s had in various jobs over the years. She recently re-married, but even now, is on the receiving end of unwanted advances from a former co-worker. She has turned down opportunities that would have advanced her career because she did not want to be subjected to this. It is very widespread and the problem should be addressed.

I admire these women for coming out and standing up for themselves in the face of what must be withering scrutiny!

KQ, I agree about the tone with the voters, but I still think the President is in pretty good shape in spite of the economy in general. His poll numbers have been coming up a little since he started going out and pounding the repubs. The timing is right for a very populist message, and that’s what he’s been doing. You’re right…he shines on the stump!

Kes, a big Congratulations to you and all the Ohio folks who worked so hard on this! Great news!

Kasich looked pretty sheepish last night when he came out with the usual platitudes about “working together” and “respecting the will of the people”…what a load of crap! He didn’t mean a word of it!

If I were in politics in Ohio, I would warn people to watch this guy! He’s a sneaky one, and he’s got lots of time left in his term to do a lot of damage. I would not put it past him to try something else.

BTW, it was not at good night for the Kochs. We can take pleasure in that for sure. They lost out in North Carolina on the Wake County School Board run-off race where AFP had spent lots of money. Then they lost out in Ohio too! Schadenfreude!! 🙂 Don’t ya’ just love it!

Good morning, Murph! That sure makes sense to me. But could it possibly be that no other entity is responsible for the story but the women themselves? If I had been in Ms. Bialek’s shoes and saw this man running for the highest office in the land, I would have done the same thing in stepping up…or at least, I would like to think I would have the courage to do so.

First of all, Cain is no more prepared or capable to be POTUS than my doggie! He is ignorant and cocky, thinking that his sparkling personality can get him over the rough spots. His arrogance is only surpassed by his ignorance! His lack of knowledge is frightening.

I have seen men like this my entire life. Bullying and intimidating, they hold power over female employees. Their arrogance makes them believe that they can get away with harassing behavior. When caught, they blame the women…a sad pattern!

What Mr. Cain has yet to realize is that many women in the workplace are finding their voices. No longer will they put up with sexual predators for fear of losing their jobs. I believe Ms. Bialek’s account of the story and give her all the credit for being willing to come out with the charges. I’m sure it’s not going to be pleasant for her in the coming days. We may, in the end, owe her our thanks for outing this man and driving him from the race for President! IMO, he has no business being in that race to begin with!

To your point, Rick Perry’s people may have put this story out. We probably will never know. But Rick Perry himself has some sketchy baggage. There’s that old adage about throwing stones when you live in a glass house.

I don’t know if I can watch yet another “debate”. I may have to let you watch and give us the gory details! That is beyond the call of duty but if you have the stomach, go for it! 🙂

Sally, I was married when I first got the pill…just married. I don’t remember those restrictions but that’s not saying they didn’t do that. I wouldn’t be surprised. Good for the gals in Mississippi! This was a big win tonight!

Sally, you’re spot on! I remember when the pill was first on the market. It was great to not have to worry.

I think that the far right-wing Dominionists thought they could push this through on the illiterate bible-thumpers in Miss. It had been forecast to win there due to the mostly conservative voters…big church goers. But something happened. There must have been a big push to educate the voters about this. I am very relieved. This could have been the first move in the attempt to completely overturn Roe v. Wade at the Supreme Court.

BREAKING NEWS!

The Democratic candidate for Wake County School Board has won!!!! 🙂

This was a special run-off election for the last of the five seats. Dems had taken the first four of them earlier.

To put it in a nutshell, Americans for Prosperity and the Kochs had attempted to take over the board and had plans to re-segregate the schools there. The people overwhelmingly rejected their plans and re-elected the Democratic candidates to the board. The Dems are now back in control of the Wake County Schools!

This is a very happy turn of events! Money can’t buy everything! 🙂
