I, too, have one of those “lock-steppers” with my Congresswoman, Virginia Foxx. She is a total embarrassment to the state of North Carolina! Rep. Foxx is considered to be a “tenther”. You may already know about these repubs, but they are the ones who think that if a word or phrase is not written verbatim into the Constitution, then it is “unconstitutional”. Rep. Foxx went on the floor of the House last week and made the statement that the words “health care” were nowhere in the document…therefore, any government involvement in health care was unconstitutional! These “tenthers” would also destroy any government involvement in education, agriculture, FEMA, and many other programs that Americans depend on, including Medicare and Social Security. In all my years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen our government under such threat! I cannot give you much consolation about Heller. I am afraid that we have already gotten to it. This past weekend, there was a large demonstration on Wall Street by mostly young people and students. MSM coverage was practically nil, and it has rarely been mentioned today at all. But this is the way that the revolution began in Eygpt…the young, unemployed, and the students. It was reported last week on MSNBC that student debt has risen 511% since 1999. That’s quite a rise in costs in 12 years! The average college student graduates with many thousands of dollars in debt…and no jobs available. It would only take a small spark to set off a major upheaval in this country. The President made a good point in his speech to Congress that many people in this country cannot wait until the next election. The situation worsens by the day. There comes a time when voting may not be the solution that people seek, not when they have no job, have lost their homes, are buried in debt, and have run out of unemployment benefits as well as all other options just to feed themselves and their families. Today, a video of Andrew Breitbart surfaced of one of his speeches to a conservative group where he seemed to advocate using guns. They come out of meetings and literally run to the closest live mic to spout their lies and complete distortions! And it’s taken as fact by the MSM! Both Boehner and Cantor are experts at doing that. But how often do we see Democrats grabbing the mic away from them? I can’t remember the last time I saw either Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi on TV. He’s right! 🙂 The President’s numbers have really been all over the map, depending on who you are talking to..or which pundit is doing the prognosticating. It’s all very silly in that it has absolutely NO bearing on what the mood of the country will be in another 14 months. Things could be very different. My #1 concern is not so much the Presidency, but the House and the Senate. If we lose both of them, we are going to be in a world of hurt! I am encouraged with the President’s stance on this AJA…he’s taking it to the rethugs and the people like this aggressiveness. He cited about a dozen different news reporters who prefaced everything concerning the President’s agenda as “the defining moment of this Presidency”! It was comical to see every one of them describe every issue using the very same words. It also reminds me of the constant criticism of the President for the extension of the Bush tax cuts. The media pudnuts never seem to remember that he was between a rock and a hard place…that was the only way he could get an extension of unemployment benefits for long-term out of work people. It always sets my hair on fire that they conveniently “forget” or just fail to mention the extenuating circumstances. The stories about the President’s poll numbers have been all over the map this week. I’m just not going to pay any of them any attention at all. It really has no bearing on the outcome of the 2012 election. We would all do well to ignore it and just keep working to get the President re-elected. Thanks for your article! I can relate to those feelings. I feel guilty for driving a car that burns gasoline, but there are no alternatives for me. I can’t go out and buy a $50,000 car! That’s just insane! I also feel guilty for using electricity, probably coal-fired, but again there is no viable alternative. My area is no good for solar, wind or geothermal. I do feel overwhelmed and powerless to do anything about it…except taking my recycle goods once each week. We have spent countless billions exploring and drilling for fossil fuels in the past 20 years. If half of that money had been used to fund R&D in solar, perhaps we would all have free power from the sun with panels on every roof. Big oil/coal has a strangle-hold on our country.
