Displaying 3,301 To 3,330 Of 3,333 Comments Thanks so much, nellie! It really is nice to see so many HP folks here. I am getting a little frayed with fighting the onslaught of tr0llies there. They seem to come in and take over a thread. Makes it really hard to have a reasonable conversation and debate about the issues. I’m looking forward to the “humming”! :=) » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2009 @ 12:27 pm Hello everybody! I am so glad to find so many friends here! It may take me a little time to learn to navigate the site, but I’m working on it! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2009 @ 12:13 pm Hey Tanzanite! I was just sent here from HP to avoid the onrush of the tr0llies…and behold! All my friends are already here! Now, that’s just super! “-) » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2009 @ 12:10 pm Sue, my email is emerald@skybest.com. I just downloaded Jeff Sharlett’s book and would love to have a chance to read it before we delve into this. Go to the “Welcome to the Author’s Cafe” article at the very bottom. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 30, 2009 @ 12:14 pm I cannot imagine going out the door today. It is bitter cold here. The wind is howling and the chill factor is waaaay below zero! How about picking me up some bread and milk while you’re out?? π » Posted By Emerald1943 On January 4, 2010 @ 7:49 am Good mornin’, Abby! Glad to see you! I guess my “chirpy-ness” is a bit of a departure from my usual bitchin’ and moanin’ about the gub-mint! It’s just that my son’s email to his friend was just so spot-on! There was a quotation, credited to Thomas Jefferson, at the end of that email. “If the government is large enough to give you everything you want, they are powerful enough to take everything you have.” I’ve not researched this one…never seen it before now. You? » Posted By Emerald1943 On January 4, 2010 @ 7:25 am Hey javaz! I am a rabid NFL fan! Don’t even try to talk to me on Sunday afternoons or Monday nights! I always go through extreme withdrawal after the Super Bowl every year! I can see both sides of this issue. The game has grown into a very violent contact sport, much more so than in years past. The players are bigger, heavier, faster, and stronger. The hits they give and take are incredibly powerful. Sometimes I wonder how these guys are able to get up after some of the hits they take. I can hardly blame any coach for pulling his $40 million quarterback in a game that will have no meaning. I don’t like to see it either, but I believe that preventing a potentially serious injury today will give us a better game next week. It would be terrible to see a Tom Brady or a Peyton Manning seriously injured in a meaningless game, perhaps even ending their careers. It has happened, unfortunately, more than once! However, I don’t think it’s right to almost completely replace all the linemen, offensive or defensive. Those guys are more used to taking the hits. I really don’t see them in as much danger as the quarterbacks. As much as we bitch and carp about it, it’s still all about the money! We will just have to put up with it. And talking about a bloodbath, I am no Bengals fan but I actually felt sorry for them against the Jets! That was terrible! » Posted By Emerald1943 On January 4, 2010 @ 7:14 am Good morning, all you beautiful PlanetPeople! Jeeebus, it’s cold! 12 degrees here right now with high winds. Chill factors are clearly in the “minus” department! My furnace is running non-stop! Dog, I hate to see the gas bill this month! Just a mention…I am so proud of my son! He lives in east Tennessee, definitely NOT a democratic stronghold. He received a piece of email from one of his less-liberal friends that is nothing but pure rethug propaganda about social security. He wrote the guy a scathing retort, something about “republican bullshit” that is not based on facts. I know this is not an important story, but you must understand…my son usually gives me the “Mom, you can’t do a damned thing about it” line when I try to discuss politics with him. His attitude is that his blood pressure goes up every time he thinks about it and he just doesn’t want to discuss it…whatever “it” happens to be at the time. This was a HUGE departure from his usual attitude! I am such a proud mama! π I’ve raised a “commie pinko”, liberal, socialist, Marxist, communist son! (wipes a tear of joy!) I trust you all are well and happy! Now, what’s up this morning?? » Posted By Emerald1943 On January 4, 2010 @ 6:50 am Hey TRP! I could not have held my cool like you did. I got a call last year before the election from the rethuglicans, and I will admit that I went ballistic! I cussed that man with as many obscenities as I could think of! For the sake of the civility of this site, I will not repeat them!! π After that, I registered with the “NO CALL” list. So far, it’s working! Now, if I could only do something about the spam company that wants to send me 250 free business cards! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 31, 2009 @ 11:26 am You have to remember that Harry Truman was no great, brave combat pilot like the Shrub (snark, snark). And then there’s that other little fact that the Japanese sank most all our carriers at Pearl Harbor. Harry didn’t have one handy…no place to hang the banner! What a pity! He could have confirmed his legacy right then and there! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 31, 2009 @ 11:19 am You are a barrel of laughs! I can just imagine the look on her face! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 31, 2009 @ 11:14 am Hey AB! I haven’t a clue what “exsqueeshiated” means. It sounds to me like he “malipulated” that one! When he gets home, ask him if he regularly “malipulates” or whether it only occurs under stress! LOL Glad you’re having a good time with your boys! Sounds like fun! π But I’ll pass on the onion pie! Give me sweet taters any day! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 31, 2009 @ 11:10 am Hi Kalima! Happy New Year! Let’s hope this one is better for us all! I loved the pictures, especially #7 of the lady with the beautiful colored fabrics. It strikes me that we sometimes fail to see the amazing diversity in our world. These photos bring the point home! My very best to you and your family! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 31, 2009 @ 9:37 am Well hello there, blov! And a hearty welcome to the Planet! Happy New Year to you and AB! She is such an asset to our small-but-growing group! I’m sure you will be too! We anxiously await all your difficult words! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 31, 2009 @ 9:27 am Hey boom! You are correct! My daughter has two fat cats and ordered the video for the big flat-screen. I believe it’s called “Video Catnip”. Her two cats are mesmerized watching it. When the TV is off, they will go and paw at the screen, wanting to watch it again. Insanity! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 28, 2009 @ 2:24 pm Oops! My bad! Should have typed “Keven”! Sorry, dude! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 28, 2009 @ 1:44 pm Hey, Pepe! Kevin is going to have a full-blown sixteen-cylinder meltdown! LOL » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 28, 2009 @ 1:43 pm The anxiety of not knowing is sometimes worse. I went through that over my sister’s situation. BTW, there is still not much change. She continues to fight and hang on! She did briefly acknowledge our brother when he visited. She mumbled something and smiled. That’s good news and I am grateful for it! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 28, 2009 @ 10:30 am Oh K! I’m so sorry! Let’s hope everyone is safe! Thinking about you! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 28, 2009 @ 9:38 am It sure is! That’s Princess who is lying here on the footrest of my recliner right now, doing what she was bred to do…keeping my feet warm! The other one, Mani, is solid black and it’s really hard to get a good picture of her. She looks like a big black fur-ball on the carpet. I have not yet learned how to put that picture on this site…technologically challenged! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 21, 2009 @ 6:24 am You bet! Although it’s beginning to look like I will be spending it alone this year. I am hoping that my grandkids will be able to come out but we are buried under way too much snow. I don’t want my 19 yr. old grandson trying to drive in this. It is still snowing here in the mountains this morning. We have about 2 feet at this point…with more on the way. And local reports are that the roads are pretty bad out there. Temperatures are in the low 20’s and won’t warm up enough to help melt it. But it’s all good…I can spend the day watching football and blogging! π How are you doing? I’ve been thinking about you! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 21, 2009 @ 6:10 am Ouch! Make sure you clean that wound and put some antibiotic ointment on it! Kitty claws can cause some ferocious infections! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 21, 2009 @ 6:04 am Absolutely adorable! Little kitties are wonderful! I have to tell you all about my doggies, two little shih tzus that are the light of my life. Over the weekend, we received over 20″ of snow here. My dogs love to play in it and they both were chomping at the bit to go out to play. So I opened the door, both of them bolting out…only to hit a solid WALL of snow on the porch! The snow was much deeper than they were tall. The confused looks on their faces were priceless as they both spun around and came right back in! Wish I had a video! Well, at least they are smart enough to recognize their own limitations! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 21, 2009 @ 6:02 am Good morning, everyone! It sounds like you all had a great time last night. Sorry I missed it…too many holiday issues taking me away from my laptop. I’ve got the tree up and decorated, all presents shipped out to a family that’s spread out, the wreath on the door…but the perfect part is the 24″ of snow we received yesterday and last night! It is a winter wonderland here in the mountains! Snow is clinging to every branch. Icicles hang from the eaves of my roof, and the logs in the fireplace are crackling! And it is so quiet! Not a car or truck coming up the road…completely peaceful! I have a tendency to obsess over the health care bill, the corporate control of our lawmakers, the climate change debate, and other issues that are of vital interest. But today, I am going to take a break from it. I am going to enjoy watching the snow still falling, feeding the birds on my porch, taking my dogs out to play, and watching the North Carolina Tarheels play their amazing brand of basketball! Who knows…I might just have to bake some warm gingerbread this afternoon! What a wonderful time of year! The peace that I feel today…would that I could send it, wrapped in pretty paper and ribbon, to each of you here! My warmest wishes to everyone for a wonderful holiday season! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 19, 2009 @ 9:36 am Kalima…we’ve never been formally introduced and I know you are getting ready to go to bed, but I just wanted to say “Hi” and hope we get to know each other in the coming days! Have a great day/night! And hurry back soon! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 7, 2009 @ 6:59 am Are you kidding? I am one of the NFL’s most rabid female fans! Don’t try to get between me and the TV on Sunday or Monday night! That Vikings/Cardinals game was crazy. Brett needs to have a serious talk with his O-line. He found himself on his butt way too many times. Or maybe it was because Arizona was playing some brilliant defense! All in all, it was a really entertaining game. I wonder how the Saints would fare against AZ? » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 7, 2009 @ 6:48 am OK! Let’s go back over to the main discussion and join the rest. I just have to say I am loving the Planet where we control the content! What a great concept! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 30, 2009 @ 12:23 pm Perfect! That will give me some time to get into the book for starters. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 30, 2009 @ 12:21 pm Oh great! I was beginning to wonder if we could catch up with each other. I seem to remember you posting about this over at HP. You most likely know lots more about it than I, but I’m really interested in it. You were right about the education and letting people know about this. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 30, 2009 @ 12:20 pm Sue, my email is emerald@skybest.com if you did not see it under your “Tiger Woods” reply. It’s hard to get on the “same page” here! LOL » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 30, 2009 @ 12:16 pmComments Posted By Emerald1943
I probably should copy the original email and post it…stuff about illegal aliens collecting SS checks, and how we are going to be taxed, etc., etc. Same ol’ sh*t, different day!
