Coalition of Church and State Revisited: Convincing The Public

Well count me among the extremists I guess. The separation is supposed to be UTTER separation. There should be no religious right. There should be no religious left. There should be no religious arguments in politics. The people to whom a personal relationship with their deityis important should be the people to whom the separation is MOST important. The principal author of The Constitution of the United States of America was an extremist in this regard as well. He wrote this list of reasons to the separation to be strict and complete based on the entire history of human government from the time of Pericles to his day.

It is the 1st amendment because it is an absolute MUST. Madison’s language is unambiguous and his reasoning was correct.

Weekend Music Thread – Your Personal Soundtrack

LOVE me some Allmans! A good friend of mine got access a couple of years ago to a few seasons of concert recordings straight off of the soundboard! She was able to grant me access (with permission) to download a few gigs to my hard drive. Aside from my wife giving me my children, it’s probably the best gift I have ever received.

Here’s one from that collection and then one that’s not on my hard drive, but is just one of my favorites:

The bass guitar solo in this one is absurd:

The Occupy Wall Street Thread

rAmen!

» Posted By DFHredux On October 5, 2011 @ 8:23 pm

I guess that I see this:

“I would add to that, the corporate and lobbyist money that buys elections and legislation has also been a big factor. All the tax loopholes and subsidies, all the legislation that tore down regulations that allowed them to rape the economy and crash it repeatedly, all of that is also part of the game in stealing from the majority to fill their pockets higher.”

as the natural result of this:

“No question that the Supply Side fraud has been a huge underlying vehicle for the transfer of wealth to the top 1%. This did begin with Reagan, the “greed is good” generation that began this corruption.”

What else would smart people do with such a windfall?

At one point I was thinking thatI hope this Occupy Wall Street thing gets some legs. Now it has graduated to I hope it keeps its legs. I just hope that people realize that we are going to have to do two things at once here. We need to apply political pressure at the grassroots Occupy level and we need to KEEP the White House. Only SCOTUS can overturn Citizens United, only presidents get to nominate justices, and only the democratic party has any interest in nominating the sort of justices that would do that.

Because I think we CAN do 2 things at once:

It’s time to get active on BOTH fronts.

I would like to see these things, these individual injustices favoring the 1% at cost to the 99% which have rightfully raised the ire of the Occupy movement more explicitly labelled as the defining characteristics of supply side economics. Today’s imbalance, today’s stagnant wages, today’s impunity for the 1%, today’s feeling of abandonment of the average american by government are Reagan’s legacy. This circumstance has been on its way since 1980. Reagan, Goldwater, and Rand need to be made to own their results.

Weekend Music Thread – Oldies But Goodies

Yesterday was the birthday of one Riley B. King. He was born in 1925. As he began to gain some notoriety for his skill as a vocalist and guitar player, people began to call him Blues Boy King. In time that was shortened to B.B. King.

I don’t see anything in the FAQ about adding youtube vids. I tried a copy and paste of the embed code. No dice. What’s the trick?
