I don’t have things properly configured yet, nor do I have a lot of time to spend right at the moment. » Posted By Counterglow On January 7, 2014 @ 6:55 am I’m sensing that there may be one or two Huffington Post refugees sheltering here. 🙂 » Posted By Counterglow On December 14, 2013 @ 6:34 am Huffington Post Goes NSA on Its Members I’m not sure how this works yet, so forgive me if I leave two similar remarks. I’m one of the HP expatriates you’re talking about. I haven’t closed my account, but I won’t be giving Facebook a cell phone number to re-enable commenting, and I certainly won’t be feeding their click farm without being able to have my say. The bottom line is that even if they change their minds about this grotesque violation of privacy, I won’t be engaged there in the same way. Their agenda has now been made abundantly clear, and they told a cold-blooded lie about grandfathering their oldest contributors into the system. That, coupled with their decision to shut down dissent, speaks eloquently of their lack of commitment to the standards they claim to uphold. This conspicuous dearth of ethical standards will not change simply because circumstances may compel them to reconsider their latest actions. They’ll simply try to find another way to get what they want, and nothing they say to the contrary will be believable. What’s truly concerning is that using no more than information HP has made public (name and last initial/full name, plus the absolute certainty that a commenter has a Facebook account), a motivated stalker could easily use the kind of information people casually let slip every day in conversation or commenting to track down a victim. I wonder how long it will be ’til Huffington Post has its own George Tiller moment. » Posted By Counterglow On December 16, 2013 @ 6:01 am I’ve seen no indication anybody calling the shots at HuffPost has even the minimal intelligence needed to launch a DOS attack. » Posted By Counterglow On December 15, 2013 @ 8:52 pm I keep getting a duplicate post message, and it looks like my comments aren’t appearing at all. I’m sure this will sort itself out in time. » Posted By Counterglow On December 15, 2013 @ 8:49 pm Huffington Post Hacklines – Vol. 1 What was your nickname over at HP? I was Counterglow. And I can tell you the exodus is continuing. I keep my account there alive so I can track how many of my friends have left. So far, I’ve gone from about 3,300 to about 3,050. And the comments are a joke. If they keep going on their current arc, they’ll have nothing left but trolls by summer. » Posted By Counterglow On December 15, 2013 @ 8:32 pmComments Posted By Counterglow
