Do you realize that most of the budget deficit up until this year is directly connected to Reagan’s arms build-up and the Bush Wars? LBJ paid for his wars with taxes, too bad the Republicans couldn’t have owned up and did the same.

I’m offended by their rallies where pictures of our president are shown with swaztikas and moustaches and signs calling progressives things like communists, and socialists, and NAZIs. So before you go saying one of them is offended by the term, remember where the rhetoric came from in the first place.

If the tea party movement did not have members who have embraced the term, such as the woman in the photo shown on the HP story today, pinning teabags to her bonnet, we probably would. But they seem to be accepting it as a badge of honor. Go figure.

Personally, I don’t think of the pop meaning when I hear the term, so it isn’t so derogatory to me.

And you probably never will. Speaking of, SH was going on a minute ago about labeling vending machines, and I tried to comment to the effect that “of course, we all know that ducks are mostly fat” or something like that and it was taken off to purgatory. Evidently “fat” is a bad word these days.

@Kesmarn. That was the America of my youth, unfortunately. Look at the history of the Vietnam War Protest Movement and the Civil Rights Movement and how J. Edgar Hoover did massive oversight of these in very insideous ways. Some of the protections we as Americans had before the PATRIOT Act were in direct response to the Hoover FBI programs. I too am very sensitive to the issue. And I’ve had security clearances and know what goes into them.

EDIT: Generalizations was not said in the movie, it was Rationalizations, I lost my copy of my favorite movie. But the point still holds about Generalizations, too.

The simple truth is that you cannot discuss the world based solely on individual instances any more than you can by describing everything in generalizations. Yesterday I talked about how the progressives start out by saying something like “well you Republicans” and the effect of the generalization has on audiences we want to have a chance to win over. But the same holds true from the conservative side.

And statistics themselves are generalizations. Even the standard deviations discuss things in a “generalized way”, usually not about specific instances of variables outside of the norm.

Willt, many of us here are tired of the HP adversarial environment, and it is part of why we are here.

I don’t get any pleasure out of kicking on you over there, either, and will not do so in the future. It isn’t healthy for any of us.

Make yourself at home here. We hope you learn something from our side and just maybe we’ll learn something from yours. That’s what it’s all about.

Willt, I did not say your initial input here was unreasonable. But through a lot of experience I know how you have tended to be.

But I beleive you can reason and do so in a decent manner. Do not read into things that which was not said.

Willt, I won’t debate you here. We can take it back to HP and do so. But the rallies have had much coverage and I’m willing to say that statistical distribution would prove that if you’ve seen coverage of 10 large rallies you can make some fairly accurate determinations of a population, especially if there has been a strong case of consistency in those observed.

Willt, I didn’t see too many business suits and uptown clothes on the teabaggers in any of the protests, and a very large percentage of them were not in the prime of their lives. But I suppose that visual proof of those coming out to protest is insufficient.

We do welcome you here, but as I understand it, there are limits. All we ask is for you to be reasonable and coherent. We do not beat each other with words. It is unacceptable. BTW, I am NOT the management.

Many of those people would blame any democrat for being the anti-Christ, because they want to believe in him so, and the coming of the Rapture, and the fact that our President is all of the worst things (in their eyes) to them, liberal (maybe), black, the offspring of the “unholy union” of two races, etc. just reinforces their beliefs to them. The truth is that many of them are racist. I don’t bandy the word about lightly, they are. Not a difference of opinion with him but a deepseated almost primal anger because he isn’t “one of them”. There is no reasoning after a certain age with many of them until they have an enlightening experience, which may be very traumatizing as they try to deal with the inconsistencies of their long held beliefs and what they have just experienced as real.

As I have written before, I grew up with a Southern Babtist family as part of my extended family, and they were very much into God’s Select, and so prideful that it was their individual church that had the “true word”, and, of course, when they changed churches that “truth” followed with them. Hell of a thing.

And I have experienced far too many of the right who rail against the wind in it’s injustice to them and have major hypocracy around them and their words. You deal with it the best you can, which is a test of patience at best.

Yesterday I wrote about words, and their effects. And how that nuances and understanding make a difference. But I also wrote in a comment that there are those who are words will never reach. SH is one of those. It’s all quack to him. I’ve been around many people with limitations and disabilities of various natures. The fact is, few of us are without any. Some just happen to have gotten some sort of help with theirs. If SH was lucky enough to have gotten onto government disability (no one said what kind, it could have been private insurance) then he had something serious. But that doesn’t excuse his own close-mindedness towards others.

Don’t feel guilty over SH. But perhaps, as I said about words, we do need to be gentler in our “chastising” of those trolls. And those who know my socks there know I can get down and dirty with the best (not really, I usually maintain some decorum, out of choice, but I can if I want) but it probably isn’t the best thing I do either.

I say all this and I really do dislike SH to the core. But he is a person.

Did you miss that he was banned? I know others here know the full story. He was part of the purge the last couple of weeks of the “troublemakers”.

I also saw today that YahWeh is back with a new sock. I didn’t figure out why he was busted.

Christian Science Monitor used to have a great political cartoonist but he moved on the the (Nashville?) Tennessee newspaper and their webiste is pay for view. Their articles are pretty even handed, too.

I once had a practicum at the Fort Riley child care center. Military brat 4 year olds can out argue you day in and day out. Had nothing to do with me changing majors out of that.

My solution on that one would be to just have the text scanner look for any string over 24 characters which doesn’t start with “http” and put it to pending. But I only think like a progarmmer 40% of the time.

Well, it’s better that TCastillo and his harassing my SarahAnn sock. I know he dislikes Palin, but he seems really obsessive about it. I’ve got the dozen attacks on it documented so next time she “rides” and he shows up, I may not be my ever loving self.
