Of course, the cameras show so much more in the daytime!

And I’ve lived “up north” around 5 years myself and, like Arizona, there are things I like and things I can do without.

I brought the paper in, looked at the front headlines on the healthcare, noticed the typical bias, and went to the ads.

I haven’t missed the rain too much, keeps me from having to pull weeds in my gravel covered yard! But I know we need it.

Yes, “over there” is HP. It is really boring now. And they seem to have some new interesting censoring going on, even for the normal ugly censoring that goes on typically on the weekends. I always wondered why they seemed to have really conservative censors on Sat/Sun.

I don’t like the concept either, especially in an uncontrolled marketplace where the purchasers will get reamed, but there are a number of constitutional scholars who will disagree with your lay assessment of it’s constitutionality.

How did the evening meal go? I nearly said “supper” but that gets involved in regional differences between what is “dinner” and “supper” on Sunday. I’m just a simple Kansas country boy at heart.

Yea, I gave a small donation a few weeks ago to the DNCC and now they just won’t stop calling. And I told them at the time it was all I could give and why.

If you ever want to get even with someone, donate a few dollars to a handful of religious right organizations in their name, and say how much you really love the work they are doing. Include their address and phone number if you can. THey’ll be hounded forever. I love being evil!

I am glad something passed, there should never have been any question about it, I’m interested in which dems didn’t vote for it and the final wording. And then what we get out of the house/senate committee once there is a pair of bills to compare. But I worry how much help some of it’s going to be for some of us. Will there be a requirement for insurance companies to sell coverage to those of us with pre-existing conditions and at a competitive price, rather than just reaming us? And I’m still concerned about jobs, as I, like many others here, are in need of one and the benefits. This is a step forward, I’m waiting to see how much.

FDR was a master at compromise, though. Unfortunately social justice is often moved forwards small steps at a time. Example: On “The American Experience” on PBS this week they did the Civilian Conservation Corps. Congress made it so that only as big a percentage of African Americans as was in the general population could join the CCC, even though the community probably was harder hit than those of other backgrounds. And, because of the southern Congressmen, the CCC camps were only white or only black, no integration. But those people of all races who were lucky enough to get in usually made something of their lives when they got out thanks to the skills they gained.

Kalima: Don’t buy it as anything near sexist but my grandparents were married something like 70 years. While I was growing up it always seemed like grandad stayed quite and grandma made the decisions, right up until an issue came along where grandfather felt it was worth his while, and suddenly he would speak up and that was usually the decision. Hilariously his parents told him not to marry my grandmother because she was “weakly” and both he and she made it into their 90s and outlived all of their siblings, and they came from large families.

And a vast majority of the air to air and surface to air missiles in today’s arsenal comes from Raytheon Tucson, so as long as we keep in all these little “skirmishes” they are going to do quite nicely.

I interviewed back in NY (?) at Lockheed for a job in the plant where the modifications for the new Marine One’s was going to take place on those Italian helicopters.

That is funny, because my estimates of the entire defense budget (DOD, DOE, DHS components) is probably around 10 trillion dollars for the next decade, based on current expenditure levels and inflationary growth. And we all “know” there isn’t a bit of waste in that budget! And never a defence program a Republican hasn’t liked, including John McCain, who is more than a little hypocritical on his image of a “savings” senator.

I was in and out in about 5 minutes time. I just cannot deal with a lot of it right now. I’d have to create a half dozen throw-away socks to get through the day as I’d probably get “deactivated” for telling some people of(f) in no uncertain terms.

BTW, since HP doesn’t require verification, you don’t need a real e-mail to create a sock, just something that sounds good. Also, if you ever remove your own profile that e-mail address you used is still in their database and you cannot create another profile using it. Hopefully most people fake them, otherwise Google is getting a ton of new accounts which were created only for one purpose.

Hi Deygirl. I remember coming down the Oregon coast around Christmas in 1998 (I believe) on a trip home to AZ to see “family” when I was working in Seattle. This was the really nasty one where sections of the 101 were washing away. We got through Tillamook just before they closed down that section. I forgot which Oregon town it was we had picked a hotel out in, because they accepted pets, and when we drove through we couldn’t find the place. Turned out they had changed the name recently. Glad we had a cell phone to find out. There are a lot of nice things about Oregon, but in some of the most beautiful places there also seem to be some people who would welcome you playing “Dueling Banjos” in the background. But that’s not uncommon, the places I love best in California are the same way.
