And I like the phrasing of “Let it swirl around your head.” It’s like Kant said, “Dare to think!” » Posted By Buddy McCue On August 1, 2011 @ 4:33 pm I’ve always liked Randi Rhodes. » Posted By Buddy McCue On August 1, 2011 @ 4:31 pm Weekend Music Thread – The Sky’s the Limit And of course, there’s Billy Thorpe’s “Children Of The Sun.” » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 30, 2011 @ 2:55 pm David Bowie says there’s a Starman waiting in the sky… » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 30, 2011 @ 2:38 pm Pink Floyd says, “Hey, Eugene, this is Henry McClean, and I’ve finished my beautiful flying machine…” Point Me At The Sky And Eric Burdon sings about the Sky Pilot: » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 30, 2011 @ 2:28 pm I clicked on the link, and found that not only does Ms. Klausner carve Oreo filling, but she also smears ketchup, mustard, jam and BBQ sauce on the wall in wallpaper patterns. She embroiders toast, and sews samplers onto Chex cereal. I showed these to my wife, who looked at it and reacted with a large sigh. She said that this was the sort of thing she would expect from an insane asylum. I don’t know. I think it’s pretty creative stuff. » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 26, 2011 @ 4:17 pm Weekend Music Thread – Take Me Away BSM – That sure is easier on the ears than that Archies’ bubblegum thing. » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 24, 2011 @ 5:32 pm Wow! I love this! This is going straight to my iPod. Too bad it just fades away at the end of the video. I can tell that he’s playing on one of the maqamat, but I can only identify one of them by ear (the Hijaz,) and this is certainly not that. Very beautiful improvisation. » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 24, 2011 @ 6:28 am Major Tom was DEFINITELY getting away from it all… David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 23, 2011 @ 3:35 pm They DO seem to be having a good time on that bus! I heard David Gilmour talk about this album on a radio interview, and he was very dismissive of the whole thing. He said that he doesn’t listen to the albums between the first two and Dark Side of the Moon. He said in that period of time after Syd left and before Dark Side, the band was floundering around for a sound. If I had been there at that interview, I would have wanted to tell Gimour that I really LIKED that stuff they recorded then! There was some good solid work there, in my opinion. » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 23, 2011 @ 3:28 pm Willie Nelson is ridin’ on The City of New Orleans, (Illinois Central, Monday morning rail:) » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 23, 2011 @ 3:19 pm AdLib – Thanks for posting that Pink Floyd song San Tropez. I haven’t heard that in a really long time. I like it. People who don’t really care for rock music or psychedelic rock, but who DO like mellow lounge music… these are the folks for whom I would want to play San Tropez. Let them enjoy the song, and THEN tell them they were listening to Pink Floyd. They probably won’t believe you. » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 23, 2011 @ 3:10 pm Great tune! “We’re jammin’, jammin’, … and I hope you like jammin’, too.” » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 23, 2011 @ 3:01 pm Holiday Road by Lyndsey Buckingham , the theme from National Lampoon’s Vacation movie: Yeah, it WAS a light, frothy low-brow comedy alright… but I have to admit this song was catchy. » Posted By Buddy McCue On July 23, 2011 @ 2:42 pm I’ts “appy polly loggies,” isn’t it? It certainly is a different view of things. The article points out right away that both the White House and Speaker Boehner come away from these negotiations saying that they got the upper hand. Both sides feel as though they’ve won. Ordinarily, I would say that’s the sign of a good compromise. But there was an observation in that DailyKos article that’s a little troubling, and it’s something I’ve also noticed. Here’s quoting from the article: “The White House strongly touts the steep cuts everywhere else as if they are a good thing in and of themselves: that’s not different from Boehner, but is instead a full-throated acceptance that austerity during an economic downturn is somehow a Good Thing, when all evidence points to it being a terrible thing.” I used to say that the Republicans supported spending cuts for a cynically political reason: that they know that austerity measures will prolong economic hard times and will slow the recovery, and that they also know that this is their best shot at recapturing the White House in 2012. If they can enact spending cuts, perhaps the high unemployment will last the rest of this year and all the next. Then they can point to the President and say “See what this man has caused?” It seemed like an obvious point of strategy from their point of view. I felt pretty comfortable making this point. But when President Obama comes out and agrees with the Republican point of view, and repeats their opinion that spending cuts are necessary at this time, I feel like a fool for ever making that point about Republican strategy. » Posted By Buddy McCue On August 1, 2011 @ 4:45 am I’m gonna have to look for a clip of that! I just recently heard Don Lemon on the Citizen Radio podcast, where he was interviewed. The guy sounds pretty sincere for a cable news person.
