Kalima, 90% of my clients are very wealthy people, I can tell you some stories that would raise the hair on the back of your neck.

But the main thing that the wealthy here in my area have in common is, that they don’t like paying a fair wage to anyone who works for them and I see now with Dubai, that mentality extends farther than my little corner of the world.

They will spend $10,000 on themselves at Saks in a month, but grudgingly pay minimum wage to their help who do just about everything for them except wipe their asses…it’s all about them….sad state of affairs these days.

Morning Monk, I fanned you under that moniker, nice avatar.

Was out in my yard yesterday and my neighbor wants some work done on her property and she also introduced me to a contractor that is doing some work on one of her rental pptys., he took my business card and would like some advise/design work on his property too.

Third person this past week to talk to me about design work, so things might just pick up this Spring.

This happened in the late eighties and early nineties, they hired all these kids out of college because they were cheap, then realized it cost them more down the line from all the mistakes they made. By the Mid-nineties they were back to hiring people with experience…go figure, keep up the search, something will come up.

I have a great book for you to read, if you can find it, not sure if it’s out of print.

It is very interesting, it makes you focus on what is really important to you, I have started both my businesses by using this technique and have gone back and read it recently to get more focused on getting clients.

Oh Kalima, I too wish that Dubai will be the downfall of a lot of people, Chainey being the main one.

I do hope that Obama does something with these companies that we have outsourced to fight our wars with, I would love to see the plug pulled on them, but am not holding my breath….But I can dream can’t I?

Morning/Evening All…Hope all are well.

I see that they have a suspect caught in the Washington Police Officers shooting. Reports are saying that the suspect was pardoned by then Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas. That won’t bode well for him and his up and coming bid for the GOP Presidential race. I see a lot of questions in the future for the former Governor!

Kalima, I read the article that you posted on Dubai, I remember seeing a show on the creation of these monstrosities and thinking, can their possibly be that many wealthy people in this world that really can afford to live there and why would they?

Well I guess if you take into account that it was basically built with slave labor and that these people needs will be later serviced with slave labor, then they cost of living there will really not be that much, aside from the initial cost of the property. What the hell were they thinking, hubris has no bounds with this story.

The weather here in CT yesterday was beautiful, took a long walk with the dogs, today it’s the typical overcast winter day, mid 50’s their predicting with rain in the afternoon. Funny but I love overcast days like this, makes me turn inward and think. Don’t feel so obliged to go outside and work on my gardens!

Thanks nellie, the debates never really get heated and I find it fun to spar with them. It’s just that I like to know what’s up with Fox so I can go in with my facts straight.

Unlike a lot of you here that are wonderful writers, my forte is the verbal word. I grew up in a family that debated the issues of the day at the dinner table almost every evening, so I love to be verbally challenged like this.

I don’t know how many times I say “look it up”, “check the facts”, it get tiresome at times. Maybe I’m looking for intelligent debate where none is.

I think I’ll use your last statement regarding all the other news agencies around the world and Fox being the only one that thinks it right, that should stop them in their tracks, or at least slow them down a bit.

Why my husband is not like them I’ll never know, I think it’s because he has an artistic mind, which is more open to ideas than his families, or he has lived with me far too long!

My God javaz, this women sounds like a nut case or a Teabagger!

It’s too bad that this women sends you e-mails like this, sounds like she is on some crusade to right the ills of the world that she perceives to be wrong and you just happen to be one of her targets.

The family political conversations never really gets heated and I usually win them by pointing out the hypocrisy of their statements.

I think I’ll use nellie’s statement regarding other news agencies…that seems to be the gentle way a stating that Fox is not always right.

OK, last night I couldn’t sleep because I was anxious over tomorrows gathering, not the food or the cooking, it is because with my husbands family the table conversation invariable winds up with politics and them bashing Obama.

My husband and I being the only two progressive/liberals in his family, we usually are on the defense, out numbered 6 to 2 older adults. They all are ardent followers of the Faux news station, so I must have our debate points down.

So help me here, we don’t really watch Fox News and all I read of them is on HP, so I need to know their newest and latest garbage that they are spewing forth.

Four or five young adults lives and minds are at stake here, poor kids they usually try to stay neutral, but I know that they are listening to every word we say. So, I feel that I need to make a good argument for our righteous cause here, to sway them over to logic, compassion and a better future for all of us.

Thanks, that sounds very similar to how I make it, but I never used the package brown gravy.

My husband loves that stuff, makes it all the time. I have to try it that way.

Every night, we have two very patient dogs waiting off to the side, for they know that they will get a little something put in their bowls!

Life is good after that!

Let’s see, when did the Campbell Soup Company make it an integral part of our Thanksgiving Meal? I don’t remember….

Don’t you our marketing techniques in this country, this is one of those “must haves” or your not a “real American” …LOL!!!

We’re going to my brother-in-laws up the line in CT, about an hour away. It’s easier for my elderly in-laws to travel to, only 10 min. from their house.

My brother-in-law is a single parent who raised two wonderful kids, now 24 and 26, by himself after his wife ran off with some whack-a-doodle guy…he’s a great cook like my husband, so he’ll be doing the turkey and mashed potatoes.

One of my husbands older sister, he has three, will be making the rest of the sides, another wonderful cook, creamed onions, sausage stuffing and butternut squash.

When I get there, I’ll make the gravy, because their gravy can be used to plaster walls!!

Must have become to being in the late ’50’s or ’60’s when casseroles were the rage! Mom made everything into a casserole then…it was a great way to extend what little food you had and to make a cheap cut of meat taste better.

javaz, don’t google it, the recipe is right on the can of French’s Fried Onions. I use frozen cut green beans instead of canned, they don’t come out as mushy. I also add more fried onions and pepper than the recipe calls for.

Very good article Kalima, I find that the UK major newspapers and the BBC always seem to have a better writing/reporting style than our MSM here in the US.

Most of ours have resorted to the tabloid press style of sensationalized news, even our local area news seems to have picked this up. Hubbster’s and I usually wind up watching the BBC news or CNN International News to see what’s really going on in our country.

Morning everyone….Hope all is well with you. Baked two simple cheese cakes last night for the big Turkey Day. Today I’m making Sweet Potato Souffle and that silly Green Bean Casserole that everyone loves, yuk.

Later this afternoon, hubby is bringing a 1/2 a bushel of fresh caught clams home for us to make Baked Stuffed Clams, his grandmother’s recipe, for the starter for tomorrow’s meal.

Don’t you love how food brings everyone together, though we may not all agree on world issues or politics, at least we are brought together and can agree on “THE FOOD”!

Morning Kalima, I love shepard’s pie, my mother used to make it for us as kids.

So far my sister’s and I have not figured out how to get to taste like my mother’s. Another recipe she took to her grave….My husband says, it was love that she put into her cooking, that’s whats missing, she sure did that!!!

Would like to see your recipe if we every have that Cooking Blog here..

Morning javaz, good for you!

My husband and I usually go to his brother’s for Turkey Day, his parents are getting older so we all want to spend as much time as we can with them.

Like you, hubby and I, usually cook a small turkey for ourselves, well this year hubby said, ‘let’s just donate the little one that we have’…going out today before the weekend crowds like you to get some more food stuffs to donate with what we have already.

Our Food Banks are in dire need also here, the number of recipients are up by 800 people this year for Thanksgiving, and it is expected to rise higher.
I usually give throughout the year, but they just can’t seem to keep up with demand.

But, I’m kinda glad I don’t have to cook!

New Event: Live Roundtable – “The Weekly Planet”

Morning everyone, I would like to see some discussions on the following topics:

1.) Starting a grassroots movement to demand ‘fair and balanced’ coverage from MSM. There is so much that is not being reported on in our news today and what is reported is lop sided, to say the least. How do we get back to ‘Walter Cronkite’ type of news reporting?

2.) Exposing Christian Fundamentalism in our Govt, Corporations and American belief systems and how do we change this? nellie touched on two key phrases, ‘Personal Responsibility’ and ‘Political Correctness” that the GOP has manipulated to their advantage. Are there others?

3.) How can we as citizen’s change the atmosphere of this stand off between the GOP and Dems in the Senate. Can we influence our representatives? Can we expose the Party of No?

Talking about these are all fine and good, but what I would like to know, can we change things as citizens? I guess I’m just getting frustrated with all this BS….
