Thank you, Kalima. Whenever you can put the news out, it is much appreciated! – Would just like to share some experiences from when my daughter was in Tokyo. She studied there in 2005 and then part way through her semester, she broke her leg. She was okay, just unexpected for all of us. Her insurance covered everything including flying my husband there to be with her and for his hotel. He did not speak Japanese but found a laminated card to take with a lot of universal pictures for interpretation. Like when in a taxi, he could point to a picture of a hospital and give the name. I remember that he said his hotel room was like a tiny cubicle and he could only get CNN on the TV in English!

With the healthcare system there, she had to wait nine days for surgery. All within acceptable parameters of safety. She received great care (Japan was actually well known at that time for being a leader in the field of orthopedics) and there were interpreters available for her and for us. She had taken four years of Japanese in college but she could not always follow the language. It was hard for me with a 13 hour time difference, their daytime was my night time! It was another ten days before she could safely fly home with her cast and crutches. – My husband had always wanted to visit Japan yet not quite that way!

The university was great as well, providing for her to complete her studies online. A university professor and her host Dad helped my husband get around Tokyo. And her host Mom and my husband would bring my daughter American style food – my daughter told me she never did adapt to having fish served in the hospital for breakfast!

I had not traveled much by plane and since my husband already had a passport, he was the one to go to Japan. So far, I have been on a plane for a grand total of three hours! – And incredibly, when this happened my younger daughter was already scheduled to have her tonsils removed. That was indeed a time to remember and I am grateful to all in Tokyo who helped both my daughter and my husband.

In 2009, my daughter returned to Tokyo with her boyfriend. (now her husband, they were just married last summer!) There was so much she had still wanted to visit. They had a wonderful time and we had more wonderful pictures! – She completed a minor in Asian Studies as well as degrees in Biology, Archeology and Japanese. She then decided to continue her education. Just recently, on May 16th she graduated with a PhD in Molecular Biology. Go Women In Science! 🙂

Hi, Kalima – finally found time to read your morning blog. You have an incredible array of news items! On this Memorial Day, it is difficult to see so many areas on this planet with unresolved conflicts. I can only hope for more peaceful solutions.

There are so many items, I chose two that are of particular interest to me. The judge releasing a serial rapist defies all logic and common sense. All too often, justice has not been served throughout this country. The abuse of both judicial and legislative powers is despicable.

I firmly support universal comprehensive background checks for gun purchases. With the California gun shooting incident, I had already seen the one father of a victim giving his impassioned plea ” . . when will this insanity stop?”. The 46 Senators who voted against federal legislation for background checks should be held accountable at the election polls for their inaction. Here in the US, we need to vote, vote, vote them out of office!

The photos of the week were especially interesting for a quick look at events as well. – My one daughter studied in Tokyo many years ago at a university there and stayed with a host family. Her pictures were beautiful! She also visited Okinawa one weekend. More on that interesting trip another time! – Thank you for doing these great Bits and Bogs! Hope your day goes well. 🙂

Hi, PPO – Thanks for letting me know that Fergie is your DW, I did miss that message! I remember when I found the Planet wondering what were the odds of having two posters from Australia yet never made any connection. – Congrats on those 33 years together, we had our 41st in June.

I am sorry to hear that she is not improving very rapidly, please give her a gentle Hug! from me. – Keeping both of you in my thoughts and sending more good wishes that she will soon be on that road to recovery. Take care. 🙂

Hi, KT – This is so shameful that it may start the downfall of Trump. His media puppets actually try to justify his shameful words – there is NO defense for the indefensible.

And even with some of their protests against Trump, the GOP are nothing but hypocrites. They have obstructed legislation and decreased funding that would have helped our veterans:

2010: – Homeless Women Veterans and Homeless Veterans with Children Act/BLOCKED by GOP
2012: – Veteran Jobs Corps Act/BLOCKED by GOP
2014: – Veterans Health and Benefits and Military Pay Restoration Act/BLOCKED by GOP
2014: – Women Veterans and Families Health Services Act/BLOCKED by GOP
2015: – Veterans Affairs Funding Bill/$690 million for direct VA medical care and $582 million for VA construction projects were CUT from the federal budget by the GOP

The GOP offer nothing but empty promises when it comes to actually helping the men and women who have served in our military. – In addition to his utter disrespect for our military, Trump has never even held an elected position. He is NOT qualified to lead either our government or our military.

Well, kesmarn – each to his/her own perspectives. It is like the different views of humor with my husband. Sometimes what he views as humorous, I do not – and vice versa.

I don’t view YouTube clips that much except those with news articles such as viewing a hurricane or those with cats. Yet when I do, I am interested in the how and why of the production such as with Mark Dice who produced the video you posted. – However, I do use YouTube often for all of that incredible MUSIC! 🙂

Hi, Kalima – Your question can only be given a valid answer by asking those who viewed the video. For me, I would not speculate as to the varied responses and motivations of the 23 million individual viewers of that video.

As for research, it really was nothing more than what people do everyday on the net. When you wish to learn about someone, just type a name and click.

Hi, Fergie – Thank you for sharing about your experiences and that funny video. I am sorry that you lost your Dad when you were so young. Please see my post above as well.

I completely agree with your statement that “No generation has a monopoly . .” – your description of what boomers experienced was well said. I started working as a critical care nurse in 1975, it was not until over ten year later in the late ’80s that a new mandatory video for employment started. It was a little thing called the “Sexual Harassment Policies” of that hospital. 😉

There is more I could say about my experiences and observations as well but I will also leave it at that. – Good to see you, take care. 🙂

Hi, kesmarn – As a mother of two millennial daughters, I found this to be humorous and a creative adaptation of a Beatle’s song. Of course, as with all music with an artist that is not known to me, I had to find out about the artist. Perhaps what is beneath the surface is more significant than surface appearances. From thechristianbeat.org:

“The song pokes fun at common stereotypes of the millennial generation . . Tyler, a 33 year old millennial himself, created the video for the Watermark Church Leader Conference in Dallas, TX to help break down barriers and open up the discussion of generational stereotypes.”

And from micahtyler.com:

And so perhaps we could indeed break down those barriers of generational stereotypes. – And instead salute and commend the accomplishments of each individual regardless of age. – No one likes to be lumped together under a contrived label, no matter what their age. And stereotyping is only a negative deterrent to viewing the reality of those individual lives.

Hi, Kalima – No offense taken, my friend. There should be a distinction between the often anonymous social media commentary and what is actually occurring with real voters. And a distinction between the often biased commentary of the news media as compared to those real voters as well.

It is predicted to get to 95 F this week here, going to be a hot week not only with the temperatures but with the GOP convention! 😉 Take care and stay cool during this summer heat. 🙂

Well, that is the first time that I have ever been compared to a GOP! 😉 As a supporter of Hillary, I most certainly do have integrity, morality and honesty. – Perhaps the campaign generalizations have been a bit too much on the rhetorical side rather than the reality side. As has been said many times, neither Democratic candidate is absolute perfection nor absolute imperfection. – It would appear that this trashing is occurring throughout the political spectrum. For me, I do not denigrate others. – I can only shake my head in utter amazement at the supporters of Trump.

Anyway, each to his/her own point of view here at the Planet. – Time to send that unqualified and narcissistic twit called Trump crawling back to his slimy cave! 🙂

Hi, Kalima – Well, there is more I that could say as a Hillary supporter. There are many factors to consider with the candidates and their campaigns. I respect all voter’s individual choices, that is their decision – except not those ding/bats this year who support a completely unqualified Trump. 😉 I hope my vote will be a part of the electoral process to defeat Trump and to return a Democrat majority in the Senate. – I will have to leave it at that and agree to disagree.

Hi, Kalima – I had to respond here as there was no more room for replies below. Thank you for the best wishes. – For me, to assert that attempts at compromise are somehow negative is unrealistic. There has to be compromise at some point for our government to function, as evidenced by the destructive government shutdowns caused by the refusal of the GOP to compromise.

My husband worked for the federal government for 37 years (Dec. 1973 to Jan. 2011) under 7 Presidents. And we will never forget Nov. through Dec. 1995 when Gingrich caused a government shutdown for 27 days. My girls were both in elementary school and I was working part time, my husband traveled often with work. – We did not know when the shutdown would end or how we were going to pay our January mortgage. The public outcry over concerns for federal workers was a part of finally making Gingrich and the GOP relent, the government opened again on January 5th. – Pres. Bill Clinton had vetoed the 1996 federal budget, opposing the GOP cuts to funding for Medicare, education, the environment and public health.

Hillary was also First Lady when Pres. Bill Clinton signed into law the groundbreaking Violence Against Women Act of 1994. She championed that act as well which established for the first time an Office on Violence Against Women in the U.S. Dept. of Justice. – As one whose sister was a victim of domestic violence through the 80’s and early 90’s, there was finally legal recourse for her and for me to help her. I utilized those resources within the Dept. of Justice to eliminate the legal injustices she had encountered.

For me, I do not try to claim any “superiority” with Hillary’s education. Nor do I try to diminish the education of Sanders. – The facts simply speak for themselves. Sanders achieved a BA in Political Science in 1964. Hillary achieved a BA in Political Science in 1969, she also achieved a JD degree in 1973 and has been a practicing lawyer.

As for experience, I can only say that the requirements involved with the duties as First Lady and with the position of Secretary of State in the U.S. Cabinet are more expansive than the requirements involved with the position of a member of either the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate. – Sanders has served in both the House and Senate for 26 years. Hillary has served as First Lady, Sec. of State and in the Senate over a time span of 23 years.

For me, Hillary’s diverse work history in both Congress and the Cabinet, as First Lady and as a lawyer – all contribute to being more prepared to serve as President for this nation and within the international arena.

I tend to find that campaign ads can be a part of that political rhetoric. Eight years after that ad, President Obama has now endorsed Hillary in 2016. – Sending you best wishes as well across the net universe, hope your cats are doing well together. 🙂

Hi, Kalima – It has been a nice change to be able to discuss politics here at the Planet. With so many disruptive and antagonistic sites in the net universe during this election, there were very few reasonable places left for me to comment. You are to be commended for your “agree to disagree” approach with commentary.

As a Hillary supporter, I would simply offer a few observations. Fair is fair – there are achievements as well as flaws with each candidate. I made a pro and con list for each one as I was undecided. For me, there were both positive and negative aspects regarding each candidate and their platforms.

With that “dem circles” claim, I am a lifelong Democrat and have not heard of this. Perhaps it is from that so-called journalistic reporting. Anyway, these generalizations about Hillary supporters often do not reflect reality. At least for me, it is not something I would ever claim. Trump is so unqualified that it is quite probable he will not win the election.

As a retired critical care nurse, I am a very concerned citizen of the world as well. And I also care very much about those who are suffering in this nation. I dedicated my career to the alleviation of suffering and helping those in need. – Hillary has indeed worked with this same dedication both in the U.S. and internationally.

One last observation, both of my millennial daughters support Hillary. And they each made their own decision as well. – With all of the media misrepresentations, it is time to remember that not all Hillary supporters are totally against Sanders. We simply see the future of America as better with Hillary as our President.

As for dangerous, that would actually be the candidate named Trump. 😉

Hi, Fergie – I share your sentiments regarding this contentious election. That contention has been aided and abetted by the media with opinionated reporting that becomes so-called news, corporative profits are more important to them than actual facts. – No candidate is absolute perfection, they all have a past in which they have made mistakes as well as attained achievements. It is what makes us all human. For me, it unrealistic to disregard looking at both the mistakes and the achievements as a sum total for each candidate.

I was an undecided voter, then finally made a pro and con list in April before my primary for each one. My husband had already decided after the debates last fall to support Hillary. – It was my own decision to support Hillary as well. For me, the strongest on my pro list for Hillary was her experience and education.

As for Trump, I would have absolutely nothing to put a pro list for him. 😉 And I agree, the larger consequences are significant and should be considered by every voter. – Good to see you. 🙂

Hi, Nirek – Wonderful to see you back, sending more good wishes for you on that road to recovery. The typing does not matter – I never did learn to type that well and certainly not very fast. It is incredible when I hear of those who can type 70 or more words/minute, all of that in one little minute. – At my best, I used to type around 40 words/minute with decent accuracy – not so much now. 😉

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the record for the fastest typing speed that is verifiable: it was Stella Pajunas-Garland from Chicago in 1946 using an IBM electric typewriter – she typed 216 words/minute!

Hi, KT – Great graphic! 🙂 It is so hypocritical that while squawking about oppression, these sanctimonious ding/bats are actually the ones doing the oppressing. They are only hiding behind their bibles as a so-called justification for discrimination.

The religious extremists are trying to defend the indefensible. They are beyond despicable – there is NO justification whatsoever for discrimination.

Hi, Haruko – Great to see you! 🙂 I read about this story as well. This legislator is a pastor with religious extremist agendas. Yet ultimately his attempt to restrict AP History in Oklahoma will only fail. He cannot restrict education in the other 49 states nor in every US university. And education does not exist in an isolated bubble in only one classroom, there are plenty of other resources available.

Another wingnut who is trying to defend the indefensible. – Despite his absurd legislative maneuvers, he cannot hide the truth about the history of this nation from students.

Hello to all at the planet! – Just would like to say a tremendous thank you to those who created this haven. And a belated congratulations to your five year anniversary!! Your efforts are much appreciated. It is hard to believe that a over a year has passed since I found this planet amid the vastness of the net universe.

I don’t have as much time to get here as often as I would like to yet everyone has been very welcoming. There is hilarious humor, noteworthy news and magnificent music. And incredible stories to share. I hope to be here more often, I enjoy the time we have together. – Wishing all the best for everyone in 2015! 🙂

Hi, Nirek – Just happened to find your video, thanks for sharing. When I see documentaries like this, from whatever battle in whatever war, I am thankful that you and others managed to survive. Sometimes I look up and review again the history of my Dad’s 96th army division and 383rd regiment from WWII in Okinawa. I think it is important that the realities of war and the service of those in the military are never forgotten.

If only we all would remember this, then perhaps there would be no more fighting. – Good to see you and wishing you all the best for the new year. Peace, my friend.
