My eyesight now has problems with the captchas that require you to identify pictures with fire hydrants. Some of the pictures show large portions of a city so I assume there are fire hydrants in them. Wrong.

Bernie promises that premiums go away under Medicare for all. But he does not explain who is going to pay.

Medicare is not free for old farts like me. I pay $460 a month for medicare part B, which has a 20% copay.

But the same amount of money won’t cover all the people not presently covered. And insurance companies don’t make excessive profits. You still need to process claims, even with single payer. If you think the government can do that more efficiently than the private sector, you have more faith in bureaucracy than I do.

Bernie won’t because he can’t. Medicare for all sounds great until you try to pay for it.
Realistically, a universal medical plan will have to be considerably less generous than Medicare is to current oldsters. Think premiums, big deductibles and copays, and many services and drugs not covered. Expect most every drug advertised on TV will not be covered.

People will be terrified to lose employer coverage for state coverage. A better approach is to go slowly. Start with a public option to buy into Medicare. The price will be higher than most people expect. But provide a trimmed down version with higher deductibles and copays and rationed services and it could work. Then jigger the tax law to provide an incentive for employers to offer this basic Medicare as the foundation of their plan while providing a supplement (Medicare Advantage model) to employees to cover those benefits not provided by Medicare. You do this by making private insurance a taxable benefit to employees or not deductible for corporations.

I disagree. I think Pelosi is trying to keep Trump from rallying his base with the argument that the dems are trying to steal the election and steal their vote. She needs to change more minds before we go too aggressively towards impeachment. Nixon was at 25% when he resigned. Trump is currently in the low 40s (48 if you believe the Rasmussen poll of likely Trump supporters).

You need to think this through the mind of the typical Trumpist. They think impeachment is about trying to steal their vote and to overturn a valid election. Of course, one hopes that as facts come out during the process, perhaps some of them change their minds about Trump. But they all know he is a liar and a cheat, but he is their liar and cheat.
