Sure would be a great antidote to the Bagger/Plutocrat deficit hysteria. It would be rather amusing to watch Repubs stuttering when caught off guard on their deficit BS. » Posted By AdLib On February 18, 2014 @ 4:37 pm Funk, can’t tell you how much I’ve appreciated this series and how it has really opened my mind up on the complexities and systems that are running invisibly to our society. Of all the propositions, one of my favorites in communicating this to the public is rebranding the deficit clock, The National Savings Clock. And the simple message needs to be nailed home that the government, as the creator of currency, has nothing in common with a business or citizen who is a user of money and transcends the concept of needing to live on a budget. It is that inverse relationship of what are called deficits with wealth that is very valuable to understand. What is interesting is how the wealthy are exploiting this misunderstanding to slash spending by the government on the 99% to reduce this awful deficit…but fighting tooth and nail against any reduction of the subsidies they get paid…even though it would reduce this deficit they claim is an existential and urgent threat. Of course, the goal is to simply continue the transfer of wealth from the government but only to e wealthy. They know how all this works, they just want the spigot over the public to be repiped into their spigot and the plumbing they’re using is called “deficit reduction. Remember Dick Cheney declaring that deficits don’t matter? He knows, the rest of the elite know, it’s just a cynical game they play in their class war. If they were to get their way economically then end up in power again, we’d hear very quickly that once again, deficits don’t matter. Now…what national politician on the Dem side would have the guts to stand up and proclaim that our economic empire has no clothes? » Posted By AdLib On February 17, 2014 @ 7:58 pm A PlanetPOV Collection of Chris Christie Nursery Rhymes A triumph, PPO! I remember reading about that campaign against Grover, he’s just lucky there wasn’t a Fox Newspaper back then! Even though all but one has already been posted, they belong together in my mind. As hard as it is to pick a favorite over all the rest of their songs, “All You Need is Love” would be my choice if I had to choose one, for many reasons. All You Need is Love A Day in the Life Help Hey Jude » Posted By AdLib On February 8, 2014 @ 3:51 pm Republicans Have The Answer to Poverty: The Poor Need to Be Poorer to Stop Being Poor Hey Funk, thanks pal! Now there’s another idea for a thread, Scientific Theories About Republicans. “Republican stupidity can’t be destroyed, only transformed.” That dehumanization you describe is also a hallmark of how you fight a war and that’s exactly what the RW has been doing against the poor for decades. As you say, they campaign in the public to convince them into having disgust towards the poor so that cruelties and attacks launched on them will have the public’s support. Where their plan goes awry is that you can’t both oppress and impoverish the majority and then try to convince them that the impoverished are “the other”. And what happens to the RW’s Class War when those struggling are in the majority? Very interesting to consider the similarity in elitist views between now and Victorian England. Human nature is consistent, corruption is a constant and payback can be a bitch. The rich are clueless in their bubbles, never recognizing how history shows that they are inevitably doomed to fail in their subjugation of the 99%. The quote from Gandhi to the British General comes to mind: In the end, you will walk out. Because 100,000 Englishmen simply cannot control 350 million Indians, if those Indians refuse to cooperate. There will be a galvanizing of the majority against the wealthy eventually and there will be a reckoning. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 11:23 am CL, yep, Reagan was the one who led in the “Greed is good!” era and the wealthy have since morphed into disgusting and venomous creatures. I do have a lot of trouble understanding the people who would vote for a party that thinks as you describe, greater handouts to the wealthy encourage them but any spending on the poor degrades society. It just defies any reason or common sense. We are in a fight against a kind of oppression and regression America hasn’t seen for a very long time but I do think think the forces behind it are losing their leverage. This year’s election will be very much about economic injustice and that theme can only grow into 2016 as the inequity grows. And now that the 1%ers have gone on the attack against the 99% in the media and on the web, these hubris-filled idiots only deserve what’s coming for them. We’ll see just how powerful the 1% is when the 99% push back against them. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 10:25 am Thanks so much, Kes! The DoJ has got to be pursuing that racist and anti-democratic action by Rick Scott in FL, I can’t believe they will let it go nor that people and organizations there won’t take this to court as well. How evil is the Supreme Court majority to unleash this kind of tyranny against minorities while blathering about how racism is no longer an issue in the South?! » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 10:16 am Thanks Dbos! It’s true, they have been winning their Class War but as you say, they are also creating a pressure cooker around the 99% that will eventually explode. The pendulum swings throughout history, the oppression of the powerful and wealthy can never be sustained, it always falls and that will happen…perhaps sooner that it may seem. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 9:16 am Sally, their xenophobia blinds them to how similar they are to the Taliban, they just instantly brand them as the enemy and crazy unbelievers. See, only when your religion is the one true religion, can you force your beliefs on the majority and be doing the right thing. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 9:01 am CL, I really wonder how many RW politicians and wealthy genuinely believe in Christianity or Dominionism in a spiritual way. It sure seems to me that these pigs want all that supporting Dominionism can bring to their greedy selves and they may even convince themselves that they believe in it for that reason…but deep down, I wonder how many of them actually have the capability of spiritual investment. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 8:52 am And the RW corporate prison industry gets twice the benefit from this Republican policy, crippled minority voting power and huge profits. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 8:46 am Kalima, I think they have a more varied approach to this. They want a certain percentage of minorities in prison so as a whole, they don’t have voting power but they want to keep them in the workforce but more like slaves than employees. That’s what their immigration plans are all about, they want immigrants to work at low wages in the U.S. but not have the rights of citizens so they support work visas but not immigration. If they were to succeed in having second class citizens be the law of the land, it would be a huge coup for them and the revival of a version of slavery for the U.S.. » Posted By AdLib On February 14, 2014 @ 8:41 am Kalima, it’s not crazy because they are trying to do that in a less direct way already. They are trying to fence in minorities so they can’t vote, become more impoverished and are seen as the enemies of society. Their communities aren’t improved and become blighted and education is slashed each year which keeps them trapped. It’s a much more immediate way of “locking them away”. I wouldn’t be surprised though that if they had the power, they would favor laws that allowed the indebted to be jailed and the poor to be arrested for vagrancy if they were homeless. That would really help out their prison industry buddies’ bottom line too. Prison has been the real concentration camp for Republicans, so many blacks and other minorities locked up for victimless crimes, they’ve been doing it for a very long time. » Posted By AdLib On February 13, 2014 @ 5:13 pm Kalima, thanks so much! And it sure becomes apparent that faith in Christianity is just another cynical gimmick they use to cover up the plutocratic/tyrannical goals they’re pursuing. The Republicans blather out of one side of their mouth that they are pro-life then out of the other side they vote for big cuts in food stamps that go to already-born children as well as voting to repeal their health insurance under Obamacare. The GOP is indeed a death panel all on its own. » Posted By AdLib On February 13, 2014 @ 4:53 pm Nirek, indeed! And maybe if we raise taxes to 99% on the wealthy, they’ll be wealthier? Let’s try that one out first. » Posted By AdLib On February 13, 2014 @ 4:49 pm If Chris Christie Became President, Who Would Be In His Cabinet? :LOL: ! Silly definitely works for me, love Boehner’s position! At least it’s not face down in a toilet as usual. » Posted By AdLib On February 6, 2014 @ 7:14 pmComments Posted By AdLib
The lawyers chased the weasel.
The public gasped at all Chris had done.
Pop! Goes the weasel!
To throw his pal Dave a bone.
But when he got there, his ethics were bare;
And so the poor Dave had none.
Here is my blackmail, here is my clout.
When I get all steamed up hear me shout,
Tip me over and perp-walk me out.
He spun and he jived and he shucked
But despite all he tried
We all know he lied
And now he is royally fucked.
