As you might have guessed, I am right down the line with you on this.

Peacekitten’s advice is brilliant and could be very effective. The only issue could be that Mods are not management at HuffPo. So though the Mods are either following orders or being vindictive when they ban members, the management is disconnected from that and the fallout.

They just seem like they don’t care. At the same time, Arianna locked down HuffPo in a panic after O’Reilly attacked the site for spewing hate against conservatives.

My feeling is that it can work in select instances but I don’t think you can teach an old Huffy new tricks, don’t see HuffPo goung back to being a place for free speech and mature, honest dialog.

Excellent insight, KQ! You’re “right on the money”. You go with what you know and what you really care about. Her obsession with AIG was bizarre…until your perspective is factored in.

Most all blogging sites can ban based on IP address so your question does make an important point and I believe, validate the proposition that they DO want racists and all kinds of nasty trolls there to stir up conflict.

“Clicks and Dicks” is what I call their business plan, get as many revenue generating clicks as they can by keeping dicks on the site outraging members.

It’s very cynical and corporate. Just use and manipulate people to make as much money as you can.

The ideal philosophy for a progressive blog site, oui?

My neighbor was the breeder, my dog was the youngest of the litter and when my neighbor saw how smart she was, he joked about giving up the smartest of the bunch.

I absolutely remember her as the aggressively hostile wackjob right winger.

Which is why I don’t buy her as an aggressively hostile left winger.

I would add that for her Politics is also about manipulating the public and jostling for position to get as much money, celebrity and power as possible.

She came to the conclusion that what was really missing from the makeup of the political media cast of characters was a fervent female liberal “personality”.

So she cast herself in the role. The problem with playing a role for so long is that your true nature and instincts eventually emerge in one way or another.

Even before I had my revelation about her, I remember always feeling a bit uncomfortable when watching her lecturing on tv. It never felt quite right.

Now I know why.

HAD ENOUGHINGTON?

So pleased by your sentiments! Working together, we can indeed continue to build The Planet into a bigger and more prominent site.

We do have a Facebook page people can add right now, “Adlib Planetpov”. We also have a Digg account under “PlanetPOV” people can join.

Also, clicking on the RSS feed links at the top, under Meta or at the bottom of the page can add sections to your home page on Yahoo, Google, etc. and stream the latest articles and comments.

I’m going to send out an email to the membership shortly with all the info on how members can help promote and link up with the site.

The best approach so far has been visiting HuffPo and linking to articles here or recommending The Planet as an alternative to the oppressive censorship and hostility at HuffPo.

The thing is that since yesterday, HuffPo has blacklisted “PlanetPOV” and PlanetPOV’s web address (I wear that as a badge of honor, guess we’re having an impact on them, heh!) so the workaround is to put a space in the “planetpov” part of the link and advise people to copy and paste into their browsers, removing the space when they do.

Really pleased by your desire to help grow the site, I don’t take such things for granted.

My First Post

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it seems pretty clear to me that Arianna is just an opportunist who saw a big opening for a hard core liberal woman in the media.

So she became one overnight and has successfully ridden that horse to where she is today.

You do have to give that much to her, she was right about the opportunity, even if she has no earnest belief in the philosophy.

I get the feeling that they don’t want “leaders” to rise out of the blogging ranks, perhaps for fear that they will lead bloggers to revolt or exodus.

They seem far more quick to pull the trigger on banning the most popular bloggers than I have ever seen before.

KevenSeven, AtomicSplash, BlueStateMan/Agent86, these folks have been around for a while and have many fans.

If it isn’t to keep the blogging ranks passive, disorganized and clueless about how the site has changed, I don’t have an explanation as to why they are so anxious to ban longtime, faithful members.
