Yes, the Control Boys and Girls over there have been making big changes lately to maximize clicks and revenues and silence any thoughts not good for the bottom line. I wonder if the Hedge Fund overlords are really cracking the whip a lot harder now. Their obnoxious, in your face Facebook push is insane, along with their distracting and irritating ad placements…especially when the whole background turns into a huge ad. Long time members are banned without hesitation, comments are regularly wiped with no rhyme or reason. Even the Friday music threads are now getting wiped (their loss is our gain!) From my perspective it’s clear. Fit all these pieces together with the dishonest headlines and articles, the Obama bashing, the ginning up and protection of the troll population while silencing those who protest that… …HuffPo has so exposed itself to be a facade of a Progressive site, just using that image to generate profits to its ownership (hedge funds and Arianna) and playing the Progressive members there who earnestly care about issues…for suckers. They fell upon this formula to addict people there and that is what their focus is, making the formula more potent and using the addiction to the site to elicit more clicks, visits and time spent at the site which means more ad money. I mean, this whole obsessive Facebook push? They want to get their tentacles deep into their membership so they can squeeze them more and more for ad revenue. Do you or any other well adjusted Progressive want to share your personal information or personal life with trolls who have and will continue to sign up for the HuffPo Facebook with the worst of intentions? Yeah, I want to join a club that has Klan members and share my personal information. Right. It’s crazy! And who would want to become further immersed in a community where the truth is manipulated and freedom of expression is waterboarded? I try, just to spread the word about The Planet, but I have a lot of trouble spending any time on that site anymore. It seems to me that people live dichotomies…which in some cases may be a polite way of saying “hypocrisies”. On one hand you have people who rail against authority…but follow Rush and Beck like mindless lemmings…not to mention their unquestioning allegiance to the ultimate authority figures, their religion. Take the teabaggers who are rabidly anti-government yet jealously hold onto their unemployment insurance, Social Security and Medicare, even yelling, “Keep your government hands off of my Medicare!” Americans have racked up the most personal debt ever in the history of the U.S., not by practicing self-relience but by buying into the corporate/government mantra of, “Being a good consumer is being a good American,” and “You deserve to have whatever you want, use your credit card or your home equity to buy it!”. There is an ignorance to American society, that everyone will eventually become millionaires and that denying oneself what one desires is not American, even if it buries one in debt. There is a sense of self-entitlement which has been sold through the media to Americans to keep them consuming. This creates a disconnect between the value of one’s work and the fruits that it produces. The “You can have it all” mentality is a corporate construct that melded the promise of “Anyone can succeed in America” with “Buy, buy, buy!”. And despite the recession and the hard economic times people are having, I would guess that many of these same people are looking forward to the day when they can resume the excess consumption to which they’ve grown accustomed. Remember the last GOP House, allowing corruption to run rampant and sex scandals to be swept under the rug? I remember Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, etc. not taking personal responsibility for their actions. What about Larry Craig, John Ensign and Mark Sanford? Did any of them take personal responsibility for their actions and resign? What about Haliburton and KBR? DId they take any responsibility for war profiteering and electrocuting, murdering, American soldiers? What about Blackwater? Did they take responsibility for all of the innocent Iraqi’s they killed? What about the GOP itself, did they take responsibility for destroying our economy and spending our government into a deep hole? This is a very long list but that’s more than enough to prove what bullshit this argument really is from them. That’s a common tactic by these assholes to harass people. Second, I am bewildered why anyone, having seen how horrible the trolls are at Huff, would join a Huff Facebook page that these trolls are also joining. It’s bad enough to see them at the site, who would want them having access to one’s personal life and friends? Insane. And by doing so, one may indeed tip off trolls as to one’s actual identity. We have a Facebook page for The Planet (under the name “Adlib Planetpov”) because it is important to network to keep the Planet growing. And our community is a pretty nice one to network with. As long as people don’t mention their username, there are enough members so no one will know who anyone else is. But despite the positives, people have to remember that Facebook is public information, anything you don’t want your worst enemy to know about you, you shouldn’t post at Facebook. I’m going to post an article shortly to list the updates but FYI, I have reduced the amount of comments per page. That makes pages load faster. You’ll now find links at the bottom of Article pages, when they have multiple pages of comments, that say “Older Comments” and “Newer Comments”, click on them to browse through all the comments for an article as desired. The Recent Comments column works just the same, if you click on a comment listed there, you will go right to it, on the comment page it is on. That’s my big concern about sites like Huffington Post, they have become the internet equivalent of CNN, Fox News, etc. Owned by corporate (hedge fund) interests, pumping out propaganda and unverifiable, agenda-driven stories…and the folks who left the MSM on tv for the internet to get the truth are now being played for rubes by some of their internet alternatives. That’s why justice should never be subjective, it should be an objective force that is built upon principle. If killing is wrong in a society, it is wrong. No matter who does it.
