I do know that some people in MA voted for Scott Brown to kill HCR because it would have meant that their universal HC rules would have to conform to Fed rules and be less beneficial. So, I’m aware that states would have to conform to Fed rules if they had a single payer system but I hadn’t heard that states would be restricted from setting up one until 2017…though Bernie Sanders’ amendment provides Fed funds starting in 2017 for states to start up single payer plans. I think they are so absorbed in the horse race aspect now that the details of the bill are unimportant. They are all about the process and the vote on Sunday, it’s a simple primal confrontational concept that they and their typical audience are most responsive to. The MSM doesn’t do much meaningful analysis anymore, their dumbing down affects them as well as their audience. So, my feeling is that it’s better for the PO to slip past them so they can’t try to demonize it…again. Once HCR passes and if things remain mostly as they are and a PO is included, public opinion will turn around powerfully. After all, 2/3 of the nation want a PO and many non-Repubs who are upset at Congress and HCR are upset because the PO was killed. Otherwise, the Constitutional and legal claims being made against mandatory coverage are so bogus. SS and Medicare have been federally mandated for decades, there have been lawsuits against them for the same reason which have all failed. A government can require its citizens to do things that are for the common good of all citizens. What are laws anyway? Why can’t we do whatever we want to benefit ourselves?
