It provided quite a bit of information, aside from the obvious conservation that took place. The fact that his staff, was eager to put through a call from Mr. Koch…SPEAKS volumes! The fact that Walker took the call from someone he believed to be MR. KOCH…SPEAKS VOLUMES! The fact that he really didn’t allow the caller to say much…he did most of the talking…SPEAKS VOLUMES! The fact that he seemed so eager to please the caller…SPEAKS VOLUMES! I found it especially interesting that when ever the caller said, ‘he’s one of us’ Walker didn’t question that comment or seek to clarify what was meant by that statement. He basically just agreed. I want to know what ‘he’s one of us’ actually means! What wasn’t said was just as important as what WAS said. Very intriguing. It’s almost like we set ourselves up for this ‘failure’. {Sigh} At the end of the day though, the reality IS, none of this really matters. I’ve written about it before, but regardless of ones status or station in life, in the end (while on one’s death bed) very few wish to have more time to amass more wealth…most wish they had more time to actually LIVE and LOVE. I know I have been guilty of this myself. Money or the lack thereof, makes us feel worthless. It’s a sad commentary on our society and what we value. Many times these feelings are subconscious in nature…and don’t really manifest themselves until we are without adequate funds. I’ve been struggling with depression for the last 3 years, over my personal circumstances and it’s been hard at times, to see my own value as a human being as I have been indoctrinated (just like everyone else) to looking at my value through the eyes of financial glasses. Sometimes, its a real struggle, to remember WHAT really matters and what value one really has, in a society that is obsessed with economic success. I look forward to reading and contributing to the rest of this series. I have my own clothing style…I rarely wear trends and if I do, it’s just a hint of a trend, but I wear it with a vintage clothing and hats, or odd pieces of jewelry or accessories I find at antique stores. It’s actually more fun that way…to create your own style! I have clothes in my closet of my mothers from the 50’s and 60’s , and 70’s which I pair with clothes of my own from the 80’s 90’s and aughts. I actually had an argument on pricing once, with an executive that boggled my mind! He actually told me, that our costs don’t matter….I’m like what? OF course they matter! We might sell under those costs (temporarily) in order to get a volume customer and/or to drive sales, but that doesn’t mean our costs don’t matter! We are simply making the decision to lose money on one customer in order to make money in other areas. He really didn’t get that! I think people do need love as much as they need food or air. We are social creatures and do not exist on this planet alone, we need others and we need to feel valued, respected and cared about…which in my mind is at the basis of the emotion called love. Love is not just romantic in nature, although that can be part of it…there are many layers and types of love. There is romantic love or the love that grows for a significant other or spouse that comes from being together from being together a long time, that encompasses MANY different components. There is the love for parent to child. There is the love of a child to a parent, or a grandparent OR any other family member to one another. There is the love of a sibling or a friend or even on another level, the love for a neighbor or for mankind in general. There is the love of one’s country or for one’s city, or one’s sports team, while these types of love seem to be be more superfluous, then the others, they still count. Love is such an important aspect of life and without love; life is meaningless. I’ve lost forever many whom I loved…my mother, my father, and other beloved relatives (grandparent’s, aunts, uncles, cousins) as well as many good friends. I’ve been going to funerals since I was 5 (literally) and realized at a very young age, how important love really is and how much it hurts when a loved one is gone forever. In addition, just like everyone else, I’ve experienced break ups with romantic partners and old friends, even splits in the family, and have seen the damage lost love can do to a person. It seems one does not realize how important all these types of love REALLY are, until they have lost people whom they love; either through death or break up or other other means.
