Wisconsin, what does it really mean?

Interesting! And I always thought the Canadians were just smart enough to stay out of the crap that America seems to want to jump in the middle of!

My Dear Governor.

Bravo, Caru! Keep em coming!

Proud To Be Liberal By Brian Elroy McKinley

Oh, now that sounds niiiiiicccceeeeee!

» Posted By ASmom On February 19, 2011 @ 1:35 am

I’d say someone should post it on HuffPo if I thought for once second that the mods would actually allow it to post!

Just about anywhere, really. He wants to eventually live in Japan and is actually taking Japanese lessons as we speak but we have talked about being willing to start in Canada or the UK if it were easier to start there and he even mentioned Mexico if it were necessary this morning. Belize is English speaking and is a possibility. Personally, I would prefer Europe but am pretty open minded to anywhere at this point. Would love a country with socialized (GASP) medicine that actually takes care of its people, and I plan on learning whatever language were necessary as does he. But in answer to your question, Japan is his first love. But, lots could happen.

I totally hear you and agree. My son (age 20) wants to leave here in the worst way, as do I. My husband is semi open to it when we retire (assuming they don’t move the retirement age to 70 and dismantle social security-then I don’t know what we will do!) but I don’t know if this country is going to be intact long enough to do that since that is at least another 13 years for me. This is NOT the country I loved.

Sorry-I will know better in the future! 🙂

» Posted By ASmom On February 18, 2011 @ 5:49 pm

You could if you tried. It isn’t that difficult. For the record, the way I see your scenario:

The Liberal will get a rope and perhaps even pass it along to others to make sure that it gets to the person who needs it.

The Conservative will shrug their shoulders and say “oh well. Survival of the fittist. Maybe if he hadn’t been so lazy and worked out more he would not have needed help. It is his own fault. Why should I risk my life to save him?”

What you don’t understand about Liberals is a LOT.

I just thought that this said very eloquently what I think and feel but could never say it this well. Thanks, Brian!

Stupid is as Stupid Polls

Totally true. From another viewpoint, my 20-yo son has Aspergers Syndrome and a very high IQ. His doctors have commented and I totally agree that his high IQ has made his life much harder! Take characterists of the autism spectrum, add very high IQ and stir–you get a kid that will likely not be able to hold a job-EVER-unless he can find an employer who does not mind being argued with/questioned incessantly, an employee who overthinks everything, whose brain gets “stuck” on items that have little to nothing to do with what the final outcome needs to be, and certainly not in anything resembling a timely manner. No, a high IQ in and of itself, is not necessarily a good thing.

I like that! I am going to use that one!

» Posted By ASmom On February 17, 2011 @ 11:47 am

I would have to agree with this poll, mainly because I have spoken to waaaaayyyyy too many people who represent exactly what these numbers say—–that a lot of Americans are incredibly ignorant about their own country, and if my personal experience means anything, they are extremely determined to remain that way. They will defend their ignorance to the death. They will NEVER admit it, but, by god, they are going to stay that way. They WANT to stay that way. As long as Glenn Beck or Rush or Sarah or Sean or whoever is telling them they are right, no matter what facts they are given, no matter the source of the facts, no matter how much proof they are provided that the BS they are fed is exactly that-BS-they will cling to it like a life preserver. Meanwhile, they are sinking all of us. Hard to deal with that level of ignorance and stupidity born of brainwashing.

An HP Moderator Replies

ROTFLMFAO!!They are worse than I thought, that is BAD!

» Posted By ASmom On February 17, 2011 @ 11:14 am

Good for you! Their idea of being good, at least if you are a progressive anymore is to not post. Tell er’ to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine! We’re more fun here anyway!

Hey, Zoot! Have your heard any more from Stephanie?

» Posted By ASmom On February 15, 2011 @ 12:13 pm

Gotta say, I am reading through here and seeing a whole new range of personalities here! Everyone is upbeat (is it lack of trolls or actual, honest-to-God freedom of speech?) and actually expressing themselves. I went back to read some HP and I don’t know why we put up with it for as long as we did! The posts are getting more and more brief and tightly worded and being overrun with ignorant cons and trolls. THANK GOD FOR PP!

» Posted By ASmom On February 15, 2011 @ 12:11 pm

Thanks for that! You got that off my chest as well! Right on all counts! HP was really, REALLY pissing me off!

» Posted By ASmom On February 15, 2011 @ 11:49 am

Oh, now that is CRUEL! Deja vu!

» Posted By ASmom On February 13, 2011 @ 6:31 pm

That is okay. I know the kind you mean and seemed like they were coming out of the woodwork in the end. Did it seem that way to you? And they would get posted and then just disappear.

Back at cha, jdmn! The Presbyterians had me growing up and then the Mormons had me (by choice, believe it or not) for about 5 years. Now, like you, I have found my own way. I no longer question the little voice in my head that kept wanting to question! Now, my hubby who was a Christian when we married seems to be leaning more agnostic (at least, I know he flatly denies believing in “the whole Jesus-born-of-a-virgin story) and my son is about the most militant atheist you will ever meet. Not my fault, I swear! He has Aspergers and as such he believes NOTHING if he can’t see it, touch it, smell it, etc. and is a big believer of science and Darwin. I actually did expose him to church just so he could make up his own mind, but God never had a chance with him. Lol. Anyway, I am glad you are here as well. While I love talking to the REAL Christians, we non-believers and not-entirely-sure-believers need to stick together! :}

Are you willing to say what her user was? Just curious since I saw a few I thought were like that.

» Posted By ASmom On February 13, 2011 @ 5:54 pm

Thanks for your post, choicelady. I am an atheist but that sounds like a really backass message for HP to push. I would think anyone who REALLY had the common good of this country on their mind and in their heart would make of point of including your posts, particularly with the hateful brand of people who considered themselves “Christians” on there (all the while preaching hate, etc.) Unbelievable! I am feeling pretty disillusioned with HP and with Arianna in particular right now. You said it perfectly~
Progressive my ass!

» Posted By ASmom On February 13, 2011 @ 5:52 pm

Hope I get one of those emails! Won’t have much nice to say, I can tell you that!

» Posted By ASmom On February 13, 2011 @ 5:31 pm

Yes! She sounded a bit snotty, didn’t she?

» Posted By ASmom On February 13, 2011 @ 5:23 pm

Bingo! It used to be that the posts would be moderated and then either post or go to “my activity” with a comment. For the last couple of months, the posts just completely disappeared! When I saw this thing with AOL go through and having heard that AOL tends to attract conservatives and hearing that the AOL CEO is a con, I just figured my freedom of speech rights had just taken another right turn.

» Posted By ASmom On February 13, 2011 @ 5:15 pm

Thanks for the post. I dumped HuffPo a few days ago due to the censorship as well. It was fairly reasonable up until a couple of weeks before Christmas and has been getting progressively worse to the point where the vast majority, and by that I mean on the last day I post I think a total of 8 posts and 1 actually made it, and that was a post that said simply “just checking to see if this post goes through” and that was on an unmoderated thread. What was really sad is that same exact post did NOT go through on a moderated one! Then I saw the news about AOL and connected the dots. I have also sent a couple of emails in recent months about this but got no reply. Like you said, it was nice to have a left leaning voice of reason. Seemed like it becoming less likely it would stay that way, especially when posts weren’t being allowed. Please, keep us updated. And, feel free to share with Stephanie my experience if you think it will support your point at all. If not, that is fine too.

Everything from “Over There” belongs “Here!”

Yes, I knew her from HuffPo. I hope she follows us here as well. Nice to see some of you over here!
