Democracy Is Not Broken

Thank you!

» Posted By ADONAI On February 9, 2011 @ 7:33 pm

I think what really helps too in a place like England is that their major network, BBC, is state owned and taxpayer funded. No ratings ploys or advertisers to satisfy. No dearth of mindless opinion.

I do like to be blunt. I feel it’s the most honest way to be.

Thanks!

Most Americans don’t vote at all. It’s been that way for a long time.

It’s easy to “buy” seats when you have to deal with so few voices. Many, like me,don’t see themselves represented at all by the current crop of politicians. I have to settle. Every time. I;m tired of settling.

Thank you for that warm welcome!

Well, after they said you left HP I got real sad because I love your posts

And when they said you were here,I had to check it out. : )

But let me clarify. I would rather ALL political parties vanish. I don’t believe they serve any purpose but division.

But if we are to suffer them,at least have more choice. More variety in our options.

: )

Just got here actually.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It is a very diverse country. 2 Parties can hardly represent that. Many European country have multiple Parties and they do just fine.

No matter how many there are there will always be some who are disappointed. But that is democracy. And more choice is usually a good thing.

Yeah, I decided to check the place out. Got a few good recommendations.

How Will America Truly Recover From the Economic Collapse?

Love your post Sue.

I am of the mind that many Americans need to shed the victim label they give themselves. People who feel they have no control in a country that gives them every opportunity to seize it.

Just lacking the will. Better to accept that we are ruled by mysterious forces beyond our control.

» Posted By ADONAI On February 10, 2011 @ 7:34 pm

That’s a cop out. You decry her for “playing the victim” then turn around and cast yourself as a victim of a conspiracy by the wealthiest in this nation.

You believe we are without fault? I beg to differ.Look at any chart of public debt from 1900 to 2010. After decades of a low plateau look at the ridiculous skyrocket in debt from just before 1980 to 2010.

We became a credit based society built on future debt. Greed and irresponsibility. Wasn’t a politician doing this. Or a fancy man in a top hat

Mubarak: Half sunk, a shattered visage lies

HA!

Either they get Prince again next year or they don’t have a halftime show.

It’s getting sad.

So he resigned all his power to the Vice President BUT he refuses to leave the capital. Don’t blame them for not buying it.

It’s an old ploy. Putin is using it in Russia. Pretend to step out of the top spot but still control things from either a secondary post or from behind the scenes.

And an Egyptian citizen on CNN right now being interviewed is really explaining it all very well.

Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

So, wait. Someone called Obama a dick? HA!

I would just ask that person, “what do you expect?”. You sit in a room day after day listening to dicks being dicks to you, eventually you’re gonna say something.

» Posted By ADONAI On June 30, 2011 @ 4:24 pm

I like Obama but I’ll never forget that he said this was a “necessary war”. I hope he’s in office in 2104. Once the troops are all out(which isn’t happening), we can ask him what was so goddamn necessary.

Best video I’ve seen in years.

Here’s a crazy thing I heard about manufacturing in this country. Apparently, the last few years, manufacturing output has begun going up in this country. By quite a bit considering where it was.

Yet NO new manufacturing jobs are being created. WTF?!

I usually don’t get pissed off about other people’s misfortune. Often, it turns out they brought it on themselves.

But I’m watching Dylan “PLEASE STOP HERE, I AM SCREAMING!” Ratigan, cause there’s a dude with a mailbox that says 420. I stopped to see that. Thought it was funny. But then I got caught up in his story.

A retired Mr. Santiago in, I believe, Florida, went away for vacation and came back to find his house had been foreclosed on. It happens. Problem is, it was a “mistake”. They were suppose to hit the house next door.

They cleared EVERYTHING out of his house. They took the only photos he had of his deceased wife! That made me angry as Hell! And he can’t get them back! Are you shitting me?! They may not even exist anymore! If these were pictures of my grandma, I would be in jail right now. That’s how angry it made me.

So he goes to Bank of America(surprise!) and Nationwide to say, “Hey! You got the wrong house!” and they IGNORED HIM! Flat out refused to speak to him! So he got a lawyer and they refused to speak to the lawyer! The enforcement agency who cleaned out his house said they know nothign about it even though there is a HUGE LOCK on his house with their name on it!

Mr. Santiago doesn’t deserve this. They are now suing Bank of America, Nationwide, and everyone else involved. I hope they clean them out. Talk about some bullshit. You illegally seize my house then you IGNORE ME?! Oh yeah, I’d definitely be in jail.

It was so great seeing all the brave “illegal” immigrant showing up to support the Dream Act. Makes it easier to round them up and kick them out.

‘Cause it’s still illegal right? I mean, we HAVE to throw them out. That or everything anti-immigration people say after this is hollow and without merit.

HA! He’s a terrible politician.

It’s the United States of America, yes, but not the United States of the continent of America. United States of the country of America. Right?

Like it’s not the People’s Republic of the continent of China. It’s the country of China. And what about South America? If we’re talking America the continent, which one? Do they both make up America?

Remember that episode of Droopy Dog where he was a Canadian Mounty and he was chasing the escaped wolf all over the world? No matter where the wolf went, Droopy was already there? Then he just finally gave up and Droopy revealed there were a hundred of him?

Yeah. Whatever happened to all those Droopy clones? I know one is a Senator in Connecticut, but where are the other 98?

Every once and a while I flip over to CNN to see if there’s any important breaking news or, GOD forbid, a story worth listening to. Now, I choose CNN because the numbers for the channel are the closest together on my remote. No politics behind it. Just laziness.

Anyways, Elliot Spitzer is interviewing a New York preacher who, surprise,is mad as Hell about equality for all human beings, so I stop for a few minutes. I figure it’ll be good for a few laughs.

What I never get about these interviews with religious figures is that people rarely challenge them on their interpretation of the Bible. He had the usual spiel but one exchange caught my attention. Elliot asked him a direct question about homosexuality and the preacher gave a pretty direct answer, citing that the Bible calls homosexuality an “abomination”. It does. Can’t deny that.

But, the term abomination was thrown around quite a lot. It was just what you called something you didn’t like or you felt offended you. I would point out to him that shellfish are an abomination and ask him if he enjoys lobster. That it is an abomination to wear clothing woven of 2 different fabrics. Hope that suit is 100%.

Much of the fruit and vegetables we eat today are from combined seeds. Another abomination. Pork? Abomination. Should we stop eating it? Women who practice “willfulness” are an abomination. Witches too but I think that falls under “willful women”. Why did we stop burning them? And I really could go on. Then ask him why he is so fixated on the Torah. I thought he was Christian.

So, here’s how the conversation went.

Person #1: America is a continent not a country. lol

Person #2: You know what I meant.

This is where I step in.

Me: America is a country. It’s part of the larger continent of North America.

I’ve never seen this before. If someone said America, i think the COUNTRY of America. I know I’ve been out of school for awhile but, did we change anything?

Cosmic Journeys, Episode 15: Saturn’s Mysterious Moons

In the last decade, study of Saturn’s moons has opened up new conversations on the possibility of other life in our own solar system. Discoveries of water plumes and geological activity similar to early Earth have raised hopes in some of finding life beyond our planet. And in our own backyard no less.
