That’s a political argument. Do you seriously believe Kucinich thinks Obama is an enemy? That he is somehow as bad as Bush and Cheney?

2ccp – I can understand that. he knew better than anyone where this country was headed and how hard Ohio would be hit. I love his determination to keep running each time though. And any chance I get, he will receive my vote.

2ccp – I would have voted for him in the last election but he wasn’t even on the ballot here. It was Clinton, Obama, and Edwards.

He’s not perfect, like any politician he sometimes does what he has to do but I think he has far more integrity than most in politics. As though that’s saying a lot considering American politics.

Kucinich was tougher than this on Bush. And no one listened. Still not listening. Don’t hear any other Democrats calling Bush a war criminal.

And why would they pay Kucinich to vote against them 99% of the time?

Give me Dennis Kucinich as President. He can sue all the lunchrooms he wants. Just my opinion though. I like Denny.

agrippa, I feel like the Libya decision is very debatable. I probably wouldn’t have went this way but I can’t really fault Obama for doing it. Tough decisions are what being a leader is all about. Right or wrong, they have to be made.

And I agree, I hope our involvement is short and that France and England can handle it.

I take Obama at his word. He’s never really lied, only made promises he should have known weren’t definite.

But I don’t think we should have been involved in this at all. Period. The Republicans seem to not care either way. As usual they are just looking to bring heat on the other Party’s leader. Republicans are constantly in campaign mode. Which is bad for their constituents but seems to work well for their politicians. Oh well, the people keep putting them in office so I hardly see that they can complain.

Forget the Republicans. The thing that ha blown my mind most these last few years is Obama’s constant struggles against his own Party. I mean, who really cost us better health care? Who really allowed the Bush tax cuts to stay in place and make everything Obama does the next 2 years that much harder? The Democrats!

Not all of them, of course. There are many Democrats out there I would vote for but they don’t run in my state. I wish they did. Everything Obama has done has been in spite of Congress. Not because of it. Republican and Democrat. I got a lot of issues with Obama but he’s trying a hell of a lot harder than the last guy. If only he had a better supporting cast. Things might be different. At least he headed off another depression. I can only imagine how bad it would have been if her had listened to Democratic leadership and sold out to the Republicans on it.

KT, I can find some common ground on that. I’m not much on conspiracy theories myself but I too feel like it is in the best interest of those who wish to accumulate and keep power to keep the general population dumb and afraid. Constantly at each other’s throats.

KT, This question has no easy answer. I put most of the blame on the American people. We are the stewards of this democracy. Not the politicians or the corporations or the media. Us. There are 2 sides fighting for control of this country and we’re their soldiers.

Class warfare? What class warfare? We’re too busy fighting each other. The upper class just watches as we hand them everything. This is all just my opinion. I don’t know the answer.

It’s tough to see what our priorities are. Like K7 said earlier, “nothing to be proud of, but there you have it.” I still have hope though. It just has to get worse before it will get better.

Yemen has oil. And we may step in soon. So does Egypt. And we almost stepped in. So does Bahrain. So does Albania. I think almost all of them do. Did you mean they DO have oil?

Sabreen, Bosnia still confounds me to this day.

As for Somalia, it is still believed to contain oil deposits given it’s location so close to Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It’s proximity also makes it a priority as far as stabilization. It is also a supplier of uranium and iron which we still highly value. And any place with uranium catches our eye right away.

KQ, It’s a sloppy analogy I admit. Purely for the aesthetic but not a completely invalid one. We tend to “help”(not actual help as in our aid work) people who can give us something in return. And our help comes in the form of bribery, intimidation, the before mentioned “ownership changes”, extortion, the black market, espionage, and some good ol’ fashioned hustling done by CIA agents everyday.

And, again, we love war. I can’t remember us being against a war until we start losing it. Whether France and the UK started it or not we are always happy to jump in if ti benefits us or protects a common asset.

Just my opinion though. It’s always more complicated than we think it is.

But “the American people” have been against a lot of things that were done anyways because someone somewhere thought it was “necessary”. I’ve never seen the American people veto war. They only get tired of it after we stop winning.

I just wanna take your points one by one so I don’t start rambling. So please excuse my using of a list to answer your list. 🙂

1.)Can’t argue that. Our military is in no danger here. This is THE volunteer army. If these guys weren’t ready to go, they wouldn’t be on the front or in the cockpit.

2.)Cost is hardly ever an issue. Especially when we’re killing people. We have money. Enough to do anything we want. We just chose to kill.

3.)I’m an ends justify the means person so, again, I can’t argue this point. I will willingly sacrifice few to save many. Won’t be happy about it but war sucks. But Allied caused casualties should be quite low.

4.)Libya is only Iraq in the sense that they are both ME countries with oil reserves and a fanatical dictator who finally went too far. It’s closer to the first Gulf war than the more recent one.

5.)I agree. The President can deploy resources anywhere he wants whenever he wants. But without Congressional funding, it won’t last long.

6.)This is where we part ways the most. You say not helping everyone is no excuse to not help anyone. But how sincere is that when the only people we help are those who have an asset we value? We could have stepped in on the Sudan years ago. Decades ago. But they have nothing to offer us. In that time we “helped” Afghanistan,Kuwait, Iraq, Somalia, and Saudi Arabia(who really doesn’t need it). They all had something to make it worth our time.

That is my problem. We aren’t “helping people”. We’re protecting “strategic assets” as they like to call it. “American interests in the region”. It’s ridiculous. We’re not world police. We’re a world mafia. If you make your payments,we’ll take care of your competition for you. And, if we need to, we’ll completely change the ownership.

We’re about as altruistic as a Wall Street banker.

First of all, let me say that this is a very good post and you do a good job of stating your case. A thorough argument.

Having said all that, what if you want to see both Parties die a long overdue death and you are of the mindset that the Democrats must go first so the Republicans can destroy themselves?

I like Obama but not because he’s a Democrat but because he’s a decent politician. And those are hard to come by on either side.

Love your idea though. A real true global center of academics and shared knowledge would be a great great thing.

It’s done in many places on a small scale but it would be nice to see everything brought together under one roof.

So you want to create a new “Library of Alexandria”? I tell ya 2ccp, I’m with ya on that one but the last two were burned to the ground.

If you attempt to provide universal education you will be a target. Hiding would become a very real thing for you.

This is an old idea tried by many different rulers and it always ends in devastation because education is the first step to freedom and every person looking to control us knows that. Whole areas were wiped out simply because they chose to seek education as a means to improve themselves.

So, good luck to whomever attempts this idea. It’s far more subversive and feared than most may believe.

An Easy Guide to Global Warming: The Effects of Global Warming

I think it will be a lot like it was millions of years ago. But maybe not as extreme. Greenhouses gases will build and cause a rise in surface temperature. Ice caps will melt and total land area will shrink dramatically. Many islands, like you said, will simply disappear.

But, the way I understand it, after so much build up, the light, and therefore heat, of the sun, will not be able to penetrate the layer of greenhouse gases. And who knows how long it take, hundreds maybe thousands of years, but the Earth will start to cool. And once a little bit of glacial ice takes hold it will be unstoppable. Ice reflects sunlight anyways and with so little getting through it’s effects will be even less.

The ice will continue to expand, unabated, until it has covered most of the planet and a new global ice age will begin. I forget exactly how that one ended but it had something to do with trapped methane escaping and other shit so it won’t be permanent. But it will be the end of modern human civilization. Or at least that’s how I understand it.

choice, That’ snot what I’ve read. The Pilgrims were Puritans. The story is that they left England to escape religious persecution.

That’s not true. They were the ones doing the persecuting. Put simply,people no longer cared for their bullshit so they left.

When they first came into contact with the native people, they did not want anything to do with them. One long costly winter later and they were best friends(for about 2 and a half years).
