I dunno. If we jobbed every bigot on TV, who would we watch?

24 straight hours of Rachel Maddow is not as appealing to me as it would be for others.

The lion eats tonight …

http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/332609/title/The_lion_eats_tonight_

‘Beware the full moon, for as it fades, hungry lions emerge to reclaim the night — and prowl for human flesh. Scientists studying lion attack trends in Tanzania found that predation peaks in the evenings after a full moon. The finding is the first to link lunar cycles with predation on humans, long a source of superstition and lore.’

And that was the great thing about Lincoln. Before the war he wouldn’t give the South anything they wanted. They wanted legitimacy for their traitorous actions and Lincoln would have none of it. He refused them flatly each time.

But during and after the war he offered nothing but gracious compromise and help. It was awesome of Obama to point out the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln was never anti slavery. Nor was he ever pro slavery. All he cared about was preserving the Union. If he could have saved the Union and left slavery just as it was, he would have. It’s so hard to overstate the immense pressure on that man’s Presidency. It dwarfs whatever pressure we perceive is on President Obama. But that’s why I consider Lincoln the best President ever.

But a nation breaking civil war is hardly a worthy analogy to petulant children in the House of Representatives.

I respect his answer on the “drug war” issue. I’m all for a decriminalization approach. But I understand the political problems of directly pursuing that approach. But, BUT he gave me faith that he “gets it”. We may disagree on the road to get there but I’m glad to hear he’s on a right path. Kudos Mr. President.

Word count on my next blog post: 4800

That’s too much.

Thanks Al. I will definitely check that out

It was probably best that the show ended anyways. Mike, Kevin, and Bill are doing Rifftrax now and they’re awesome

And Trace and Joel have got Cinematic Titanic with the rest of the MST3K crew so, as much as I miss it, I love what it has led to.

» Posted By ADONAI On July 20, 2011 @ 9:01 pm

Thanks for that info KQ. I had read that the larger groups were giving the President the proverbial run around. Glad he’s keeping the pressure on them.

I discovered MST3K during its last season. Loved every episode. When I realized it was cancelled, I was devastated. Then, a year later, Sc-Fi quit showing re-runs. I went through withdrawal.

But, not too long after that, Bitorrent and Youtube came on the scene and I was happy again. 🙂

jkk, Sad to hear. A real end of an era. But I still believe we are not done with space.

The technology being developed right now will greatly reduce the cost of manned space flights. We’ll get back in the game eventually.

Besides, once we fix this rock we live on, what else are we gonna do? Humans are natural explorers and that will never go away.

» Posted By ADONAI On July 20, 2011 @ 7:40 pm

Indeed bito. Just completely abandoning the space program will affect many many people.

If you can, support Chrysler Motors.

From what I understand they’re one of the few companies we gave money to who is actually paying it back like they promised.

I knew you’d really like this episode jkk.

And I believe our time in space isn’t over. But the shuttle had to go eventually. It was never gonna be able to take us to Mars or further. It did it’s job and it did it well.

Now I only hope NASA gets the funding for it’s new endeavors sometime soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama slid it in somewhere in his second term.

» Posted By ADONAI On July 20, 2011 @ 7:12 pm

Thanks KT. This is definitely one of my favorite episodes so far.

Cosmic Journeys Episode 17: Behind the Scenes on Endeavour’s Final Flight

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTyKhRZKuZc&feature=BFa&list=SL&index=17

“You won’t want this video to end. Go behind the scenes on the space shuttle Endeavour’s final flight, and the second to the last flight in NASA’s space shuttle program. It’s also the final mission for the legendary shuttle commander, astronaut Mark Kelly, who is now retiring from NASA.”

…..What?

» Posted By ADONAI On July 20, 2011 @ 3:32 pm

This is a tough one.

Harding is probably the most corrupt President on the list but Hoover basically saw the Great Depression coming and did nothing to stop it. In fact, he probably made it much,MUCH worse.

I think I may go with Harding. Scandals AND the fact he weakened us and gave Hoover every chance to worsen the Depression.

My favorite part of that page is the comment section. All the people talking about Nixon ending the Vietnam War. First of all, Nixon resigned in disgrace half a year before the war actually ended. Second, he was still planning the escalation of bombing campaigns all the way up to this lat year in office. That doesn’t sound like a man interested in ending a war.

» Posted By ADONAI On July 20, 2011 @ 3:17 pm

I’m gonna watch it though. I’m a huge fan of schadenfreude

My favorites:

“She’s a blithering idiot, and I challenge anyone to debate that fact with me.” ~Bob A.

“I, as a middle aged man, did in fact attend the premier. I masturbated for about 15 minutes, and then left.” ~Emmett M.(and then he gave it 5 stars. hilarious)

“Shouldn’t the title of this ridicumentary have been “The uneducated” ?????” ~Dieter M.

“Why pay good hard earned money to see lazy white trash do nothing, speak nothing for two hours. If I wanted to do that I could just go to the wood county fair in a few weeks” ~Jeff S

“So a film was made to stroke her ego, and no one showed up to even do so? Funny.” Jason B

“I’d rather hold bees in my honeyed palms.” ~Tom R

I watched the whole game and I was pretty disappointed. USA owned that whole game. After they scored, you kinda figured it was over. But 5 minutes later Japan is down the field with a break away. WHAT?! HOW?!

And I don;t wanna take anything away from Japan. They were playing for more than themselves and that can really spur you on.

And no excuses about Hope Solo being tired. It’s not like Japan’s goalie was taking rest breaks. I argue she was more active that game than Hope and that may have helped her on the PKs.

A GREAT game but I am still dumbstruck by the outcome.

There are tons, TONS of quality female journalists out there.

A vast majority that I see on TV are “visually appealing” to one degree or another.

I know this is a silly question but,

Do you think that’s on purpose?

**EDIT**

And they’re mostly young. Look like they’re barely out of college. Does experience not play a part here?

I saw that last carrotmob video you posted. Really enjoyed the premise but I wonder about the long term. Do they continue supporting the stores with tons of business AFTER they’ve “changed”?

Seems like something this big needs a little more follow through. Still, it’s something I wouldn’t mind seeing catch on.
