My Preseason Top 5 NFL Teams(2 more weeks!)

1.)Green Bay Packers – Gotta go with the champs. Basically the same team coming back to defend their title. At least 12 wins.

2.)New England Patriots – I know they have sucked in the postseason lately but they’re too good to not get over that. At least 12 wins

3.)Atlanta Falcons – Best team in the regular season in the NFC last year. But they gotta get over that playoff hump. This is that year. At least 12 wins

4.)Philadelphia Eagles – Dream team? Let’s play a few games first. But I think at least 10 wins

5.)New York Jets – Great playoff team. We’ll see if they finally cash in an AFC Championship game. At least 10 wins.

I don’t get why Republicans never liked him. He seems to hate the right things, says the right things about Obama, and he isn’t even elected yet and he’s killing jobs.

How did he not poll higher?

AdLib, Hope you don’t mind if I move the conversation to a new block.

I do get what you’re saying. A just punishment. A punishment that fits the crime. Putting a guy away 20 years for stealing your stereo isn’t justice. It’s petty revenge.

But that’s kind of the way I feel about the death penalty as well. I too think it goes “beyond justice”. It’s revenge pure and simple. And I don’t know if life in prison is revenge or not. Unless they’re in solitary confinement, they’ll still be part of some society. They’ll laugh at jokes, maybe read a few books, find religion.

But is life in prison where most of them are heading anyways? Most felons are repeat offenders. Prison is suppose to be about rehabilitation. It has to be. Just locking people up in a cage to “get them out of they way” doesn’t equal a just society. Just a society that has run out of options or refuses to find new ones.

And I don’t want to rant. The whole prison system makes me feel uncomfortable with the word justice. And I know that is a whole ‘nother issue which is why I don’t want to start ranting.

I guess, in summary, I pretty much agree with your stance on it, but there are just so many little things that make me feel that justice is a subjective term, defined by the one holding the power.

Republicans Praise Nixon Administration For Allowing Qaddafi To Rule Libya So He Could One Day Be Overthrown

WASHINGTON—GOP officials claimed credit Thursday for the Libyan people’s liberation from Col. Muammar Qaddafi’s despotic 42-year rule, saying that without the Nixon administration permitting Qaddafi to take control of Libya in the first place, there never would have been a tyrannical regime to topple. “In 1969, Qaddafi staged a coup, abolished the monarchy, kicked out American forces, and demanded U.S. oil companies share more revenue or else face expulsion—had Nixon and his Republican appointees done anything at all to stop Qaddafi during this time, Libya wouldn’t be celebrating his downfall today, in 2011,” explained Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), calling the Libyan uprising a clear feather in the GOP’s cap. “So once again, the Libyan people have only the Republican Party to thank, because without our brilliant foresight, there would have been no Qaddafi dictatorship, and without a Qaddafi dictatorship, there would never have been a reason for the uprising. Understand? Again, this is our accomplishment, and ours alone.” Before thanking reporters for their time, Graham quickly added that Barack Obama had failed on every level and will always fail on every level

What is justice? Locking a man in a cage? Taking his life from him?

It’s all punishment. I guess justice comes from the system not the penalty. A person facing trial by his or her peers. That’s justice. The sentence is just the sentence. A formality.

I get that. It is kind of a stupid way to look at it. I just think the death penalty is pointless. Like AdLib I find it more than a bit hypocritical but that part doesn’t really bother me.

All we’re really doing is adding another hole in the ground. It solves nothing. It’s never been a deterrent. Crime rates still fluctuate wildly and capital punishment seems to have little baring on it.

I’m ambivalent morally. I get it. I understand that some people need to die. They no longer deserve the gift we all enjoy everyday. and you can still very much enjoy that gift behind bars. So, I get it.

The satisfaction of “seeing justice done” quickly fades. The emptiness remains. And no amount of retribution will ever fill it.

I see. Can’t argue that. Many kids are dragged out of school for all the wrong reasons and given an inadequate substitute at home.

I know people who were home schooled and they are the most well adjusted people you’ll ever meet. I know people who got a public education and they’re in prison or worse.

It’s all about caring for the kid.

Reminds me of this report I read on Libs vs Cons and caring.

Apparently Libs make eye contact far more often during a conversation and maintain eye contact for far longer.

This can mean a lot of things. Libs seem more empathetic. Libs are actually paying attention to what you say instead of just waiting for their turn to talk. Libs are not afraid of intimacy and personal connection. And many other things.

No wonder Republicans hate science.
