Small, but it’s Saudi Arabia. It’s amazing when one person speaks out against the government let alone a hundred or more. If these protests gain even a little bit of headway and increase in size, then everything we have come to know about the Middle East in the last 3 decades no longer applies. Of course it is Saudi Arabia. I expect this to go away and the people to be “dealt with”. But still, it was enough today to worry oil investors and the stock market. Revolution in Saudi Arabia means a world revolution. How could it not? They are the world’s gas pump. They have billions sunk into every major country on Earth. Most of the world is one Saudi revolution away from fucking chaos. Definitely keeping my eye on this one. » Posted By ADONAI On March 10, 2011 @ 1:24 pm Well kids, I’m out. Good night folks. Peace be with you. “A return to first principles in a republic is sometimes caused by the simple virtues of one man. His good example has such an influence that the good men strive to imitate him, and the wicked are ashamed to lead a life so contrary to his example.” ~Niccolo Machiavelli » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:58 pm KQ, I don’t think there is an objective truth in this argument on either side. Rationalizing is reasoning. Ethics and morals are debatable, period. Intent vs. action is not a clear thing. And I still like Machiavelli. The ends justify the means. *EDIT*: I assumed nefarious was on par with evil here. I am sorry if I misinterpreted you. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:39 pm » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:29 pm Thinking about how stupid it was to say something like that? » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:23 pm And people on the Right want to call him a a fucking socialist. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:07 pm Why? I’m with the people in Wisconsin. I just admire Machiavelli. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:05 pm But that’s the common misconception about Machiavelli. He wasn’t evil. He didn’t propose doing “nefarious things” just for the sake of doing it that way. America burned thousands of Japanese alive to save millions of casualties in a ground invasion of Japan. The second bomb is debatable but was that first one a nefarious act? To unilaterally sacrifice thousands of civilian lives to save millions of casualties? It did achieve a great good in the eyes of many. To me, the ends justify the means. Provided those ends are beneficial. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 8:04 pm Indeed Pocket. It’s all a fucking popularity contest but that’s on the people too. Not just the corporate trust, their media, and their politicians. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:53 pm Pocket, At first that will be exactly how it is. you nailed it. But people have gotta swallow their pride and start taking this democracy seriously. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:46 pm From the article: “I think it’s Machiavellian,” he shouted. Now, am I the only one who would take that as a compliment? » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:42 pm If everyone went on strike and the country descended into chaos, it would be the beginning of the liberation of human beings. But, since no one is anywhere near ready for that, we gotta start taking voting just a tad more seriously. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:37 pm NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo ok that seems fair. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:32 pm Cher, that’s a good quote. I think he may be onto something. People don’t want to turn that critical eye on themselves. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:31 pm Abby, I can’t believe I’m the optimistic one here. I’m always the one saying it will only get worse. Maybe it’s where I’m from. To see real poverty everyday, to watch people with little find happiness and joy in what they have. I’ve lived poor, paycheck to paycheck, and quite comfortably in my short life. I haven’t been out in the world long but I’ve met so many great people. Seen so many great things being worked on. We still have yet to see America at it’s best. It’s coming. Science is going to change the world in dramatic ways over the next few decades. We just have to hang on til then. I believe in this place and these people. We will win. I’m sure of it. But, it will get worse before it gets better. It always does. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:29 pm Abby,I am more familiar with domestic violence than you could possibly know. Maybe I just expect too much out of people. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:13 pm I’m not saying it doesn’t. I just don’t believe it’s necessary. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:09 pm We’re victims? Then why do we willingly vote in our abusers year after year? We sound more like enablers. Ignorance is not an excuse after so long. Then it becomes your fault. *EDIT*: And by “your” I don’t mean you. Just in general. 🙂 » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:08 pm I hope not. I think we’re stronger than that. This country could have died many times in the past and it didn’t. We’ll be o.k. Eventually. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:04 pm Not in my view. That makes us victims. We are very much not victims. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 7:02 pm Indeed kes. I’d vote for Moore without hesitation. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:58 pm I don’t think things will get better til they have gotten much worse. But I do believe we will get better. As soon as enough people are fed up. I haven’t given up on this place yet. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:54 pm HA! There’s no hiding. She’ll find you. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:48 pm I’m with you Abby. I just don’t see it happening. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:46 pm If you want the people in America to care like Michael Moore, then every city has to start looking like Detroit. I love him but there are no handcuffs in Wall Street’s future. If this scam is defeated, they’ll move on to the next. Because people don’t care until it directly affects them and by then it’s too late. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:44 pm Abby, Well of course I wouldn’t. But if all that learning didn’t come from a college, I wouldn’t hold it against them. At least I know they haven’t learned conformity. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:40 pm But isn’t that what cats think of all non cat-based legislation? » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:38 pm Lying is lying. But perjury is lying under oath. I detest liars but I don’t wanna lock them all up. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:34 pm I’m an “ends justify the means” kind of person. But I won’t argue your point on this. The “ends” are not beneficial to anyone but a select few. But I do love Machiavelli. He wasn’t evil. Just amoral. » Posted By ADONAI On March 9, 2011 @ 6:32 pmComments Posted By ADONAI
